The Celtic Story in 2088 will write about this time

When someone writes the Celtic Story on our 200th anniversary there will be a page about when The Thai Tims came to Glasgow.  It’s a part of the Celtic Story which reaches from 1888 to the present day, and, if we do our job as Celtic fans well, will ensure the character of the club retains a distinct and generous flavour.

The Thai Tims, formally the Good Child Foundation, arrive from Thailand next month and will perform at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, on Thursday 10 May, tickets are £12 and £6 for kids.  If you have enjoyed them on YouTube, and I know you have…. buy a couple of tickets here or call 08444 77 1000 and get along before they’ve sold out.

You can also support the Good Child Foundation by contributing to the fundraising exercise via their Everyclick page.

Sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday on the question about whether not registering players correctly was cheating.  Busy, busy.  Will get to it as soon as I can – no answering this question early, that’s cheating.

  1. CRAIGWHYTECSC, He is some guy…

EMBATTLED Rangers owner Craig Whyte has been ordered by a judge to pay £5,000 a month to his estranged wife, after missing an instalment under a deal the couple had struck to avoid a court hearing.

While the cash-strapped Ibrox club staggered into administration and Mr Whyte, 40, became the focus of fierce hostility from fans, he and his wife, Kim, 42, who separated two years ago, had been due to feature in a case at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

Mrs Whyte was to have sought an order for interim aliment, but an agreement was reached amid behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Today, a hearing did go ahead, and Lynda Brabender, counsel for Mrs Whyte, told the court that a payment of £5,000 had been due on 10 March, but Mr Whyte had not met it. She added that it had been learned that Mr Whyte was unwilling to adhere to the agreement.

Mr Whyte was not in court, nor was he represented by lawyers. The judge, Lord Tyre, said a formal order for interim aliment of £5,000 a month would be made against him.

Failure to comply with such an order can lead to proceedings for contempt of court.

The couple were married in Naples, Florida, in May 2000, and lived in Monaco for most of their marriage. They moved back to Scotland in 2006 and, since their separation, stay in separate addresses in the Highlands town of Grantown-on-Spey.

Ms Brabender said the out-of-court agreement had been signed by Mrs Whyte on 8 February, and it was sent to her husband. He signed it on 21 February, but failed to have it witnessed. Emails passed between lawyers for the parties, and earlier this month his solicitors sent an email saying he had promised to put the agreement in the post, although it later appeared to have gone astray.

Ms Brabender added that it had been learned last week that “in any event, he was not willing to adhere to the agreement.”

She continued: “The first payment in terms of the minute of agreement was made, not as required on 12 February, but on 13 February. The next payment was due on 10 March. He has not made any payment.”

While Mrs Whyte had provided details of her income and expenditure in the proceedings, the position with her husband was quite different.

“By contrast, he has provided no information whatsoever about his financial resources, his income or his capital,” said Ms Brabender. It had been in that context that the agreement had been reached.

Urging the judge to order payment of interim aliment, Ms Brabender said: “The fact that the parties reached an agreement, albeit unenforceable because of his actions in failing to have it witnessed, is an important consideration.”

Mrs Whyte also wanted her husband to be liable for all expenditure on Castle Grant at Grantown-on-Spey, the former matrimonial home where Mr Whyte remained resident while in Scotland. At the moment, she was also liable for outgoings although she had required to borrow funds to buy an alternative property.

Ms Brabender said Mrs Whyte had contacted an insurer which previously provided cover at the castle, and had been told the policy was no longer in place.

Her lawyers had asked repeatedly for a valid insurance certificate but “it was not forthcoming.” The couple’s agreement had included a clause that Mr Whyte satisfy his wife of continuing insurance cover. The concern was that the castle, which remained matrimonial property as the parties were still married, was uninsured, said Ms Brabender.

“It is a very large property which has had a significant insurance premium to be paid,” she added.

Lord Tyre said: “I am happy to grant the motion.”

He allowed 28 days for a valid insurance certificate to be produced, and reserved meantime the question of who should meet the expenses of the hearing.

  5. As a shareholder I accept that the board of Celtic Plc has a duty to defend my interests in matters such as league reconstruction and distribution of income.

What bothers me is that along with its Ibrox counterpart it is hellbent on perpetuating an uneven playing field in Scotland whereby two clubs nor only receive the bulk of money available in Scotland but continually seek ways to increase their share.

This never prevents either of them from complaining about how the European playing field becomes increasingly tilted towards the interests of Europe’s larger clubs.

Regarding the proposed 14 club SPL.

I have always thought this to be the best option. No matter the set up, there will always be negatives put forward so I would suggest it’s best to adopt a system which provides for the most positives.

In my opinion these are the benefits of a 14 team league:-

-2 less fixtures for the top 6, 4 of whom would make that up by European involvement.

-2 more fixtures for the bottom 8

-top 6 playing for title and European places during a 10 game run in.

-Introduce play-offs for second bottom and second top clubs (one down one up automatic). Proven success in England. This would keep the bottom half interesting. There would probably be a couple of teams safe with nothing to play for, but this would give those clubs a chance to blood youngsters.

-This system would also greatly help a host of clubs who are killed by 3 or 4 years in the doldrums. In the cases of Dundee, Dunfermline, Falkirk and maybeThistle, all these clubs are examples of decent size supports being put off attending forever. Dunfermline had average crowds of 6-7000 during the last 3 decades, even higher in the 60’s. After 4 years in the SFL, they have lost half their support, who may never return. The same goes for Dundee, who were always the bigger club in that city. It makes no sense to drive away potential supporters due to a strict 10 club SPL. All the clubs I have mentioned are at least the same size, in terms of fan base, as the likes of Inverness, St. johnstone, St. Mirren, and far bigger than Gretna and Hamilton who offered record low attendances when they were in the top flight. Too often we hear the ‘experts’ telling us that Celtic fans dont want to go to Kircaldy or Dumfries. Well next year we’ll be going to Dingwall and Inverness instead of Dundee and Dunfermline.

Anyway, I think it makes sense.

I don’t see any inconsistency with the position of the Celtic board.

They want to see income divided in accordance with the size of their customer base in both domestic and European competitions.

Post match on Sunday summed up the difference between us and the Hun. Great beer, music and craic in McNeills, followed up by some singalongs and hilarity in Old Burnt Barns, finished off by a few shandies in Bar 67. Not an agry voice raised anywhere. Just smiles, laughs, and a good time. Then up the road with a tricolour headband purchased from Bar 67 wrapped around my drunken heed. We’re nice – they’re no.

I find it kind of innocent rather than any of the usual words I would associate with that mob. It is not his fault that the MSM have kept him ignorant of the reality of his Club`s plight and “We don`t do Walking Away ” is a catchy little phrase whether it is true or not. Remember how effective The Spice Girls ” I`ll tell you what I want What I really ,really want” was? They don`t have to have depth to be catchy.

Ref this case against the GB.

Ed Smith was the police commander who reported Celtic fans to the Uefa delegate after the home game against Rennes, when the precise sectarian aspect was so obscure that none of us knew what it was. He was villified in certain quarters for that action, and accused of attention seeking and pandering to the lowest common denominator within the political echelon.

As far as I can recall, a few days later at the Hibs home game, the same Ed Smith decides to arrest/order the arrest of two lads with this sign on it. It seems to me that by arresting these two lads on such pathetic evidence Mr Smith indulged in a wee bit of self serving retribution to vindicate his original action after the Rennes match by showing that the problem was real and ongoing.

Since his attention seeking behaviour, a series of meeting took place with supporters groups from the club, such was the sense of frustration, confusion and anger that fans felt.

As a result, things have calmed down, as far as I can tell. But then I don’t get to CP. Maybe others can advise us.

Are the police still acting oppressively against the GB/others during games?

Whatever the answer, Smith is the Strathclyde Polcie equivalent of Willie Collum. He has to show that he’s more of a Celtic fan basher than his colleagues just to show that he would not let his religious background allow him to favour Celtic fans.

Only in Scotland. Now we have a policeman joining the referee to discriminate, albeit apparently sub-consciously, against one group in society, while at the same time they both want society and their bosses to believe that they are fair and impartial.

Either Smith acted for these reasons at both games, or he was influenced by direct communication from the First Minister with the Chief Constable of Strathclyde, to the effect that the new act required the police to find justifcation for some of its provisions within the Celtic support. Funny how it’s all gone quiet.

    Perhaps it was both.
