Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

Vic Davidson was my Uncle Eddie’s favourite.

Parkhead, I had the privilege of playing against Vic in a charity match a few years after he had reitred from professional football. I was a very fit 20-something who had ‘nearly’ made it in football but was never quite good enough. Anyway by accident (honest) I dumped old Vic on his bahookey and turned to sprint after the ball behind me, only to overtaken by the aforementioned Victor. That’s when I realised exactly why I’d never made it! And he was very nice and just smiled as he jogged back by me after scoring.

Before I buy two new season books, I want someone at my club to ask the SFA or UEFA for a definitive statement on whether or not they legally view The Rangers as a new club ….

That’s exactly how I feel. Can’t understand why this issue isn’t being forced.

    —-

Does your renewal only depend on asking the question or does it depend on the answer?

I have a number of concerns that have been well discussed on this forum from the club’s role in the OBF legislation, FOCuS, GB and Res 12. I am a great believer in clarity and transparency with supporters and shareholders. And not just at Season Ticket time – I’m not that naive.

But for me the biggest scandal is the myth ‘same club’ being perpetrated by sevco with the cooperation of the SFA and SMSM. I’m sure they believe that if it all goes quiet, then they can write their own reprehensible version of their beloved history and the SFA will announce 56 titles etc in their blurb.

The fans don’t seem to have any leverage to force the issue (outside lobbying through social media), but the clubs do, and our club is well situated in the corridors of power to have the situation resolved.

Asking the question of the SFA and reminding them of relevant legal framework would show they understand the feelings of all supporters and are acting in their best interest.

As a signatory of Res 12, I wait patiently for some progress on that front – this is very much a related issue and I think the time is now for some definitive action.

I will definitely be taking this on board when deciding to renew this season. How the SFA answer the question is another issue but at least they will be exposed to the uncomfortable scrutiny they deserve.

  15. Having spent so much time working on the Seville book you would be right in thinking I am biased. However reading it -not on the screen but in the book form – is a complete joy. BRTH is in fine form, SFTBs chapter on ten seconds in Oporto is a great read and there’s so much more to come – especially the stories from the CQNers. What comes across on every page is a sheer love of Celtic and a joy at being a Celtic supporter. I just got past the story last night where a well known CQNer is sitting in a hotel and a guy is busy selling tickets for inflated prices – our CQNer later sees the same guy on the TV screen sitting on the Porto bench, his name was Jose something or other. Wonder what happened to him?

You can order the book from below Paul’s post or pick it up at Celtic stores, Waterstones, WH Smith, HMV, Calton Books and other good book stores.
