Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

Interesting stat from UEFA records on Champions League (1955 – 2014)-

  3. Bada,

I’ve nothing against English clubs and usually wish them well. But….

I said the other day that Chelsea and utds best chance of reaching the semi would be if they drew each other ;)

Old Alf was an all-round sporting genius.

Athletic superstar, tennis legend and, if my failing memory serves me correctly, a world class goalie – à cross between Ronnie Simpson and Lev Yashin!

I could be talkin’ shoite ‘tho!

BMCUW is correct in pointing out that his favourite meal was fish n chips, which he had every day of the week.

  5. The Crimeans decided they wanted out of Ukraine due to the ultra ,anti russian, nationalists who grabbed power assisted by the west. No facisty coup in Kiev and they were happy to be in Ukraine.

Think Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern have fairly straight forward ties in CL but PSG and Chelski may go to the wire.

It depends if Ibra and Cavani are on song – if so they will rip Terry a new one! Chelski have striking problems so not a lot of goals in prospect.May take pens. ‘Mon Barca

  7. Embramike,

    I’d kinda agree.

But I feel psg will have an easier time than you suggest and barca might not find it so easy against a team above them.

That said….braw ties so they are :)

Gog and Magog don’t half get around, you know.

As well as Ezekiel, they are in Revelations. And also in English,Welsh and Irish folklore, though as heroic figures IIRC.

Pretty sure they are also spread throughout Eastern European,Russian and Germanic lore,as well as appearing in Hindu tales.

I remember seeing them in The Lord Mayor’s show and wondering what two forces of evil were doing on his crest. Hence my recollection of the above.

WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO CONTINUE WHEN THEY CANNOT PRODUCE AUDITED ACCOUNTS

Two finals at Celtic Park we didn’t even reach the quarter finals

Humiliated in the Champions League only 3 points 3goals scored and 14 conceded

  11. Difficult to say Bobby. The Russians weren’t exactly devastated by the boycott but were puzzled and upset by being portrayed as anti gay. Western hypocrisy and selective memories ensure that engagement is a challenge.

  14. Interesting CL draw.

Six of the eight clubs have won the big cup.

Since 1956 there have been 57 finals.

The competition has been won by 22 clubs.

We are one of the chosen few.

Something we are rightly proud of.

I do indeed and I base that on % of world population who suffered and the reign of the empires being discussed.

Also from the fact that both the empires you compare took their example from the British empire

  23. Ernie Lynch – can I just clarify something? You say that Scotland, as it is, is a country riddles with institutional Sectarianism and Racism.

You use this as an argument for maintaining the status quo and rejecting independence.

Could it be that the country is plagued by Sectarianism and Racism because it is part of the Union?

Our rejection of UKIP like tendencies suggest we are generally far less xenophobic than our Southern neighbours.

  24. e=mc2 skiving at work on

I see the CQN IRA brigade have been out insulting Scots as usual. Probably whilst living in Scotland, claiming their pensions whilst taking their free prescriptions prescribed by their Indian doctor whip finds Scotland a great place to raise his family. Newest tactics – we should be ashamed by the actions of slave traders, new world colonists from 300 years ago. We are. So should every person and country who has been a total b@@@@@@d in the past.

How about the Republic of Ireland denying Jewish refugees asylum from the holocaust – sending them back to the gas chambers- does that count as ‘rotten to the core?’

Or even…….De Valera visiting the german ambassador in 1945 to pass condolences on Adolf Hitler’s death – is that rotten too?

Or the thousands of brave Irishmen denied jobs on their return because they fought against facism during ww2 after being inspired by the spanish civil war – is that rotten enough for you? Are we playing the rottenaboutery game?

  25. Order out of chaos

The ole motto of the secret societies, their new heralded World order is coming.

God made everything in Perfect Order, Satan disrupted that, Satan is now making as much Disorder to confuse and disorientate people who have no Faith and who will believe the deception, Sheryl.

  26. And another thing…

Kris Commons has had a great season and deserves the plaudits he has received

BUT if he is the ONLY answer going forwards Celtic are in regression

What does that say about our misfiring strikers ?

Why did we wait until January before we signed a proven Goal Scorer Lee Griffiths

were Balde, Pukki and Boerritger Make weights ?

The Nazis never really had an empire in any meaningful sense of the word, though it’s what they aspired to.

But as you say in terms of its duration, territory covered, the numbers of people affected and lasting economic impact the British empire takes some beating.
