Traynor and King sitting in a tree

1049

I hear legendary Sevconian statement issuer, Jim “Rangers are dead” Traynor, is now firmly established in the Dave King camp.  You may have found recent statements familiar, including last night’s, which focusses more on interrupting Celtic’s period of domination than building a well-run and sustainable football club.

Or it could be that Dave King is in Traynor’s camp, it’s hard to tell who is the monkey and who is the organ grinder when it comes to that lot and their long and dysfunctional relationships with PR masters.

My suspicions were raised when the Sunday Mail ran a complete non-story on their front page.  Someone submitted a frivolous complaint to police – this is your news, Scotland.  This was the kind of article which would be found in the same publication when Fergus McCann was in charge at Celtic; an unadulterated attack on the club.  Now poor (not actually poor) Graham Wallace has to deal with them.

What price ‘loyalty’ after Traynor had his snout in the trough to a spectacular level too.  We actually have a recipient of some of that enormous over-spend criticising the enormous over-spend.  After his money was banked, of course. For the life of me I can never understand why the other lot put up with these types.

King’s eight point statement was an absolute hoot and completely inspired by Celtic’s position.  There seems to be a pattern here: do wrong, then criticise others for doing as you did.

Point One:

King first addressed the liability for blame, and possible criminal investigations, which he believed should be heading towards the Rangers International board in the wake of comments made by chief executive, Graham Waddell, five months ago.  He wrote:

….“It is beyond doubt that the CEO (and other board members) was aware last December that there was insufficient cash to last until the end of the season and the board failed to respond to my previous question in that regard. The CEO is now subject to a criminal complaint on this very issue but I believe that his comments were made with the full knowledge of the board. Certainly no one came out to contradict him. We should therefore expect any criminal investigation to extend to other board members.”

Dave King was a director of now-liquidated Rangers throughout the entire Craig Whyte era, when the club borrowed money from Ticketus to fund the payment of Lloyds debt, failed to pay social taxes and came crashing down.  Whyte lied about the Ticketus deal but his non-execs kept their eyes, ears and mouths shut.

King was also a director of Rangers for over a decade, including the period of the David Murray-Campbell Ogilvie EBT shambles, which was proven to be illegal on five counts, the other counts are currently subject to an Upper Tier Tribunal.

Point 2:

“If cash was wasted as a result of mismanagement (presumably Charles Green etc.) then what steps are being taken to hold management accountable for this?”

As a non-executive director of failed Rangers FC PLC King was employed to ensure interests of stakeholders were being looked after.  He failed singularly in this regard and has yet to be held to account.

Point Three:

“The board has conceded that it does not plan to effectively compete with Celtic in our first season back in the Premier League.”

This is sanity, not vanity.  To suggest Newco throw so much money at the team that the instantly become competitive to Celtic is a sure-fire way of guaranteeing yet another insolvency event.  These.  People.  Never.  Learn.

Point Four:

“This is a great review for Celtic fans. It is stated that the board might only raise 20 million over the next 3 years. This paltry amount will guarantee that Celtic will be in a league of its own for the next few years- and possibly permanently thereafter. Celtic will continue to enjoy exclusive access to the Champions League windfalls and will go from financial strength to strength. The gap could become financially irreversible.”

Agree that Celtic will go from strength to strength and be remain a league of their own.  Disagree that the review was great for Celtic fans.  The review is little more than a laugh for Celtic fans, it changes nothing for us.  I like the “permanently thereafter” line, though.  It carries a bit more weight than “Generation of Domination”, which sounded ridiculous to some 9 years ago when it was first mooted but now sounds a tad understated.

Point Five:

“The board still does not have a clear plan for raising capital despite knowing for some months that a financial crisis was looming.”

Correct.  On a related matter, Mr King has offered unspecified notions that he would encourage other people to buy tens of millions of pounds of shares, no clear plan has been identified, exactly what he accused Newco’s board of.

Point Six:

“It is interesting that the credit card companies agree with me that the season tickets should not be released to the club. However, it is genuinely shocking that this board has, for several months, withheld the knowledge that fans would not have access to credit card facilities when renewing season ticket purchases. The board preferred to blame “external parties” in an attempt to hide this serious non-disclosure. How can this board ask fans to ever trust them again?”

I think Mr King may have composed this comment ‘after a long lunch’.  Credit card companies have not suggested season tickets should not be released to (sic.) the club, they simply don’t want anything to do with these transactions.

It is not shocking at all that the decision by credit card companies was not shared by fans for a number of months.  Wallace would have spent much of this time looking for an alternative.  It would have been inappropriate for a PLC to disclose sensitive financial negotiations to the general public months before that information becomes relevant.

Point Seven:

“The board continues the blame game and takes no responsibility for the current debacle. In truth, it is this board’s stubborn refusal to secure fresh equity that is the cause of the present fragile state of the club’s finances. The board clearly hoped to muddle along by using the season ticket advances from fans. This review should reinforce to fans that this board cannot serve as an appropriate custodian for their season ticket money.”

If fans want to know who to blame for the death of Rangers and the undignified mess Newco are in, they need look no further than the boards headed by Sir David Murray and Craig Whyte, both of which Dave King served on.  Blaming Wallace instead is nonsense.

Point Eight:

“The board has admitted that Rangers is not presently a “going concern” and yet offers no plan on how this will be dealt with in the short term. Fans could once again lose their season ticket advances if given to the club at this time. It is unconscionable that this board has done nothing to bolster the finances since the last AGM.”

Fans of Oldco or Newco have never lost their season ticket advances.  What is he thinking of?  Does he know what club he’s talking about?

  1. That last post went off too quick.

If Sandaza is typical not in terms of income but incriments does that mean

the best young manager in the country if budgets remains the same would need

    to have a 25% Cull.

Is Cull acceptable term when dealing with zombies ?

  2. It’s 3 yellows before a suspension is it not?

Regardless, I think some rule where if you go 2 or 3 games without receiving another yellow means you can have a caution removed is a good way to go.

  3. That McCoist article in the Scotsman shows him up as the arrogant fantasist that he is.

It was as hilarious listening to Keevins, Delahunt and Dee-ell pushing each other away last night to try to defend him, regarding his £800k salary Delahunt jumps in “ah but, he’s taken a pay cut” followed by “remember that figure is over 13 months not 12”.

I’m staggered he never said “but remember, he has to pay tax on that too” (well, maybe he does).

Utterly shameful but then again they (SMSM) have been orchestrating and covering up the rape of RFC/Sevco by the long line of spivs and charlatans, and long may it continue.

    emeraldbee,

Saw your post last night about games in Germany, I was up with my lhad about 18 months ago and we went to a game at the Bayer Arena, Leverkusen v Schalke 04, they sell beer in the stadium but you can’t pay cash, you have to get a card and put some credit on it to buy beer and food. It’s about a 30 minute train run from Cologne. Cologne is a great town, plenty of good bars and even some micro breweries in the centre of town, there is also a good little Irish bar called Barney Vallely’s where I watched a Celtic game in the company of I think, Kolncelt. It might be not a bad starting place as Dortmund is not too far away, I got tickets from the Leverkusen website no problem, tried Dortmund but the tickets sell out quick.

    Good Luck, hope this helps.

How’s the horses treating you these days,I still lurk and look to see what your tip for the Saturday Nap is, Not very good with your tipping I must say. Is there a bit of deviousness in your napping, You wouldn’t want to be giving out your best tips as CQNers would be lumping wads of cash on to your tips, (that’s if you were on a winning streak) so I surmise you are keeping your good tips to yourself, PF is fairly tipping the winners these days, I’ll have to rub his shoulder and see if his luck rubs off on me.

We’ll have to arrange a wee meet up at Musselburgh some time soon,Hope your tipping improves by then.

Received this from Celtic the other day,It’ about the official opening of the walkway up to the Stadium….

After hitting Inverness for six at the weekend the Hoops will be aiming to avenge our only league defeat of the season when Aberdeen visit Celtic Park on Saturday.

Ahead of the match however, is the eagerly anticipated opening of the new entrance to Celtic Park, which will be known as ‘The Celtic Way’ with Club legend Billy McNeill and Chairman Ian Bankier cutting the ribbon, alongside manager Neil Lennon and members of the first team squad.

The ribbon will be cut at 1.15pm so make sure you’re there to witness the historic event and be one of the first to take a stroll up the new walkway.

Festivities start at 12noon where there will be a number of entertainers at the front of the stadium including a face-painter, balloon artist, stilt-walker, juggler, magician, caricaturist and football freestyler. In addition there will be music and our very own Hoopy the Huddle Hound and Hooped Hero, who will be once again handing our gifts to the kids.

I’m sure that like every other supporter you have been eagerly following the progress of building works in and around the stadium – especially since everyone in the Jock Stein Lounge has had a perfect bird’s eye view as the development has advanced!!

The North Stand Lounges will be open from 12.30 but you will be able to leave the lounge to watch the ceremony and re-enter again to go back to the lounge and take in the match as usual.

There are still places available in the Club Celtic for you to bring guests on this historic day, priced at £55 adults and £35 children, please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to book places.

Yes – because they have their own agenda which is to sell papers/advertising. So they discuss the situation to keep their demographic tuned in, but it is not in their interests to help resolve the situation. It can be infuriating if you take it at face value, but it’s all good news as far as I’m concerned. :-)

Was discussing this with a Hibby mate at work and he’s delighted RP is moving on. Is he the man to fix the SFA? Well, someone needs to get inside and try. Wasn’t it the case that CO was unopposed at the last “election”? Was that to do with some arcane rules about serving on committees before being eligible?

The SFA should be dismantled and a new organisation created that is fir for purpose. But we know that won;t happen, so the next best option is surely to get people of influence on the inside. Can’t be a bad thing having RP in there IMHO.

  18. THE MSM IN SEVILLE – “NAEBODY READS IT!”

The Sun and the Daily Record became embroiled in a struggle to produce the defining images of the Seville event, and to project themselves as key facilitators of the supporter communion. The Record, derided by many Celtic fans as the Daily Ranger, started from a particularly weak market position. All football supporters are wary of systematic bias against their specific club within key institutions, such as the football authorities and the national media. All fans practice what the Italians call dietrologia, that is, the science of observing or speculating upon what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ among powerful groups, and usually to the perceived detriment of the supporters’ favoured club. Earlier in the season, the Record ran a front-page lead story that, in the eyes of Celtic fans, seemed to provide irrefutable evidence of its suspected systematic bias against their club. Under the headline ‘Thugs and Thieves’ that was printed adjacent to the club crest, the main article accused Celtic players of criminal misconduct against the newspaper’s photographer at a Christmas party in Newcastle. In response, Celtic fans attacked the newspaper for its premature, unjust judging of their players, and initiated a ‘Bhoycott the Record’ campaign that reportedly seriously damaged the paper’s circulation figures. The police investigation concluded that criminal charges against the players were untenable but the boycott remained in place after the Record editor had been fired.

Both redtops sent open-top double-decker buses to Seville, equipped with the standard publicity ‘girls’ and blaring public address systems, to track down stories, snap photographs and generally ingratiate themselves within the supporter carnival. The Record bus carried an appropriated image of Henrik Larsson emblazoned across its side, but still met with scepticism from supporters: on one particular occasion, as the bus drove through the centre, a passing fan shouted ‘Naebody reads it’ several times to the driver.

Pretty much despised by the Hibernian support for his tight fistedness.

I think however he is a good football administrator. Hibernian have been run financially well. He would be an asset to the SFA.

Not much will get past Rod and he will take away a lot of people from roles who are not fit for purpose. I would be very happy if Petrie got installed in a senior SFA role.

Also went to see Kaiserslautern v St.Pauli last season (again great atmosphere with Kaiserslautern also having adopted YNWA9

But best by a country mile was going to see St. Pauli the night after Celtic played Hamburg a few years ago and must admit they would put even the tic fans to shame with the way they support their team

As far as tickets are concerned if the matches involve some of the smaller teams then tickets should be no problem although against Bayern would be difficult.

On CO’s election the word where Turnbull Hutton was the source is that no one wanted the trials and tribulations that would accompany the job.

The 4 year rule hardly helps bring in new thinking since 4 years exposure to SFA oldthink would surely dull the senses of the sharpness suited men.

Celtic want a more professional SFA but that can only be achieved with agreement of other clubs.

The acceptance of SPFL resolutions to give them more say and (if it happens) the replacement of CO by Petrie would all be signs that moves towards a more professional SFA were in train.

There is no point Celtic pulling down the house of cards unless there is something more acceptable to take its place but I think that a much more professional SFA is an objective of Celtic and in this new game of cards they hold all the aces.
