Treble chasing; business, not personal, the dirty battle

1454

Amid the general hilarity on Scottish football at the moment I’m sure it’s not escaped Ronny Deila’s attention that we have one of our most important games of the season coming up on Saturday.  The league is a marathon without any specific focus, the League Cup final is another huge game, but facing Dundee away is exactly the kind of game a club who are chasing a treble often lose.

It was Dundee who knocked the Aberdeen bandwagon off its tracks.  Given half a chance they will do the same to Celtic on Saturday.

Kenny McDowall must have felt a bit humiliated at being told he has to pick players on loan from Newcastle United, although clearly not humiliated enough to tell them to stuff the remainder of his contract.

Llambias’ instruction appears bizarre, but there’s always two sides to each story.  If McDowall informed his chief executive that he would not use the players, for reasons other than sporting merit, Llambias may well feel justified in making the instruction.

This public shaming of Llambias, the board, and by extension, Mike Ashley, is another act in a dirty battle.  Still, “It’s not personal, Sonny. It’s strictly business”, as Dave King almost said about Ashley yesterday.

Ashley’s men may be robbed of the ability to pick the team after an EGM next month, but he remains able to inflict a lot of ‘assistance towards the club’ before then.  If I can paraphrase Tom Hagan, ‘Mr Ashley never asks a second favour once he’s refused the first, understood?’  When personal offence has been taken, sometimes even good business isn’t enough to bring a ruthless patriarch to the table.

When news of the attack on the 10-year-old boy broke on Monday I assumed it would be a matter of hours before the offender was charged.  Three days on without news is concerning.  It appears that those who associate with people who believe random violence is acceptable and care little about the application on justice – which has nothing to do with any specific policing issue.

Hard cash is now available to anyone with information leading to an arrest. If you can’t report the offender for the sake of the victim, do it for the money.  You don’t need to be a witness to report the issue and collect the reward, you just need to know enough to get the ball rolling.

Well done to all who have gotten involved in the appeal to help the victim, especially organiser Rod Lee.  Stunning work, Rod.

When you watch him in his early days,he is clearly right-footed. To see how comfortable he was with both feet when with us is testament to the hard work he added to his Gift From God.

That item is dated 19th Jan so does the fact an EGM is to be held mean MA did not have a case or that he is waiting for a response to take to the EGM.

It is not clear what the position is although it is clear MA is not going to let himself be shafted by DK.

    True,it was released on the19th.

The context was in response to DKs share purchase and his proposal for an egm/board change.

I find the language in these statements a bit airiated and banal,Generally were we are and were we plan to be in response to whatever is impeding company policy by a board.

I feel MA implies he wont be idle on questioning DKs suitability if it gets to egm stage, more time & money spent when both are short.

If the egm takes place and DK gets his control of Rangers international I think it will be a pyrrhic victory as MA has most income streams.retail, trade emblems etc so I agree I dont see him being shafted.

Wakaso Mubarak scores impresisve AFCON goal, gives timely reminder to Deila

    Video:http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/02/05/wakaso-mubarak-scores-at-africa-cup-of-nations-gives-deila-timel/page/1/

Celtic winger Wakaso Mubarak scored for Ghana in their 3-0 Africa Cup of Nations win over Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana advanced to the final of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations with a convincing 3-0 win over hosts Equatorial Guinea.

Avram Grant’s men coasted into a final matchup against Ivory Coast by hammering Equatorial Guinea this evening, leaving fans to look forward to a heavyweight clash in the final.

Striker Jordan Ayew opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 42 minutes, before Celtic winger Mubarak made it two with a devastating counter attack.

Mubarak was handed the ball on the right hand side of the box, and cleverly cut inside the defender before slamming a left footed shot low into the back of the net.

Ghana wrapped the game up on 75 minutes thanks to a goal from Marseille forward Andre Ayew, before crowd trouble marred the end of the game.

For Mubarak, it was a great chance to show what he could do, considering that he’s largely been on the fringes of the Celtic team this season.

The 24-year-old is on a season-long loan deal from Russian side Rubin Kazan, but has made just ten appearances for Ronny Deila’s men, scoring only once.

With little future in Russia, Mubarak is essentially playing for his future with Celtic – and whilst the January addition of Gary Mackay-Steven will harm his chances of playing on the left of midfield, his well taken goal for Ghana is a timely reminder of his talents to manager Deila.

Lukas Podolski will not face Celtic in the Europa League for Inter Milan.

Celtic’s Champions League opponents Inter Milan have been forced into making a tough decision over their new signings.

Inter brought in two big name players in the January transfer window, Lukas Podolski and Xherdan Shaqiri, but only one will face the Scottish champions.

Football Italia confirm Inter have submitted their squad list to UEFA, and there is no place for Arsenal loanee Lukas Podolski.

It’s a disappointing blow for the German World Cup winner, who was snubbed most of the season in the Premier League by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Why is it such good news for Celtic?

Any time a striker as lethal as Podolski cannot take the field, it is a boost for the opponent. This is especially the case for a Celtic side which conceded seven goals in their final two Europa League games against Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

Podolski was actually Arsenal’s joint top scorer in the Champions League this season, netting three goals in less minutes than Danny Welbeck or Alexis Sanchez, with a more clinical strike rate.

…………………… Team Goals Scoring V Shooting Accuracy Won Contest Mins Played

    Lukas Podolski Arsenal 3 50% 2 128

    Alexis Sánchez Arsenal 3 20% 23 422

    Danny Welbeck Arsenal 3 21% 6 337

And why is it not good news for Celtic?

No Lukas Podolski is good news, but is the player selected in his place even more dangerous for the Celtic to face?

Midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri joined on a permanent deal from 2013 Champions League winners Bayern Munich.

The Switzerland international is a player able to get the whole side ticking, and will be crucial to Roberto Mancini’s side across both legs.

Celtic will have to be at their best to keep his impact to a minimum, and his inclusion and addition to Inter could yet prove to be a decisive factor in the tie.

Would you rather Podolski or Shaqiri had been left out?

You continue to make allegations of the Catholic Church making deals with the SNP yet despite being asked to provide evidence of this you are unable to do so.

You’ve claimed that the Catholic Church helped establish the OBaF Act. However, in the initial JAG minutes, the concerns and opposition to the proposals are clearly stated by the church representatives.

Subsequent to the Bill becoming an Act in statute, the church has spoken out on several occasions highlighting its continued misgivings.

“It is fair to suggest that the Offensive Behaviour at Football law has not been helpful in furthering the targeting of religious hate crime, and has criminalised otherwise law-abiding football supporters.” Peter Kearney Director of Scottish Catholic Media.

Mr Kearney then goes on to say, ‘Scotland does not have a problem with sectarianism but anti-Catholicism.’

Opinions are fine but you’re not stating a personal held belief, you’re stating it as fact without foundation or evidence.

I’d suggest you put up or shut up.

  23. Process could move Scottish Football forward.

It came to attention of then Cardinal Keith O Brien who put it to his advisers in the media ( Peter Kearney) and Parliament.

Kearny replied on the Cardinal ‘ s behalf saying that he thought it could not be pursued simply because there was no one in the other side prepared to engage.

I reluctantly accepted but the response tells you what the Catholic Church thinks about entering deals with an intransigent mind.
