Treble chasing; business, not personal, the dirty battle

1454

Amid the general hilarity on Scottish football at the moment I’m sure it’s not escaped Ronny Deila’s attention that we have one of our most important games of the season coming up on Saturday.  The league is a marathon without any specific focus, the League Cup final is another huge game, but facing Dundee away is exactly the kind of game a club who are chasing a treble often lose.

It was Dundee who knocked the Aberdeen bandwagon off its tracks.  Given half a chance they will do the same to Celtic on Saturday.

Kenny McDowall must have felt a bit humiliated at being told he has to pick players on loan from Newcastle United, although clearly not humiliated enough to tell them to stuff the remainder of his contract.

Llambias’ instruction appears bizarre, but there’s always two sides to each story.  If McDowall informed his chief executive that he would not use the players, for reasons other than sporting merit, Llambias may well feel justified in making the instruction.

This public shaming of Llambias, the board, and by extension, Mike Ashley, is another act in a dirty battle.  Still, “It’s not personal, Sonny. It’s strictly business”, as Dave King almost said about Ashley yesterday.

Ashley’s men may be robbed of the ability to pick the team after an EGM next month, but he remains able to inflict a lot of ‘assistance towards the club’ before then.  If I can paraphrase Tom Hagan, ‘Mr Ashley never asks a second favour once he’s refused the first, understood?’  When personal offence has been taken, sometimes even good business isn’t enough to bring a ruthless patriarch to the table.

When news of the attack on the 10-year-old boy broke on Monday I assumed it would be a matter of hours before the offender was charged.  Three days on without news is concerning.  It appears that those who associate with people who believe random violence is acceptable and care little about the application on justice – which has nothing to do with any specific policing issue.

Hard cash is now available to anyone with information leading to an arrest. If you can’t report the offender for the sake of the victim, do it for the money.  You don’t need to be a witness to report the issue and collect the reward, you just need to know enough to get the ball rolling.

Well done to all who have gotten involved in the appeal to help the victim, especially organiser Rod Lee.  Stunning work, Rod.

If claiming that child abuse ‘has been rooted out’ within the Catholic Church isn’t complacency, then I’m not sure what is.

As to your confidence in the present set of checks and balances, it might be prudent, and indeed sensitive and tactful, to wait a decade or so before making such an assertion.

  5. Paul re your warning to Kev Jungle – I agree 100%.

The fact that you have be so patient with him, Canamalar and their cronies, says much about you – however, as someone who has strong, and I would say, well-argued views; it is more than annoying to me that these people call into question my love of Celtic, whenever I post something that they don’t like.

Taunts of – Hun/Butchers’ apron lover/plant/parody, are all they ever have to say – they don’t even try to engage in the discussion – why? – they have no logic – only hatred and cliches in their heads.

In my opinion they cheapen this site with their bile.

There is terrible wrongdoing in all organisations throughout the world – these perverts attach themselves to where they feel there is opportunity.

We probably have more players of Scottish eligibility now than we have had for years. First team pool, I mean.

I’ll probably miss some, but here goes :-

Gordon, Mulgrew, Brown, Commons, Henderson, Mc.Gregor, Forrest, Armstrong, GMS.

    Can’t think of any more.

IMO,you might try engaging with people with opinions different to yours.

That way,you can put your point across while explaining why theirs may be misguided,at least in part.

Try being objective, rather than objectionable. There are many on here whose politics, for instance, are not mine. Or religion. Or views on the board.

Our discussions, like most on here, may become heated at times, but by and large they are respectful.

Yours, frankly, aren’t. At best, they are patronising. And trust me,that word is rarely used as a compliment, but in your case it’s the best I could do.

  13. roy croppie………………………I was 11-12 (68/69) and got a Celtic track-suit for my birthday. We played (St Athanasius – Carluke) on those red ash pitches in Airdrie and some scum bag nicked my prize posetion from the changing rooms. Had a downer on anything Airdrie since.

Fwiw, I think your Celtic posts are good, I might not agree with them, but they’re good.

  15. Up over goal, despite BT’s welcome back, I’m not really back. I intended making one post but thats the problem, you make one post get drawn into an exchange and suddenly you wonder where the morning has gone. So final word yes you are correct we will have to wait a decade to see if this problem is eradicated and perhaps my initial post was too optimistic. However I am aware of the work being done here in Ireland and it is thorough and comprehensive and I am basing my hopes and beliefs on that premise. Over and out for another few weeks.

  16. @Kev J…I don’t know if your sleeping, or have been red carded??? but if you see this post…..

I hope whatever demons are haunting you and causing your anger, leave you someday.

Did I detect in one of your replys that you were a victim???? if so it’s a heavy burden to carry. For one person to show so much resentment every single day just does not sit well.I wish you nothing but the best for your future seems like you need help.

  17. Oldtim67 thanks for mentioning Samuel Windsor, been on their website and have ordered some gear for my upcoming trip to Marbella. Hope you,re keeping well. Hail Hail Hebcelt

    Alfie,

For what it is worth, your views on Celtic are pretty much in line with my own.

However, in all my time on here, I have opposed all political discussion, from any side.

It is naturally divisive and goes against the ” open to all” ethos of the club.

The self indulgent ” debates” pre and post Referendum could have destroyed the blog and I’m sure many readers turned away from it.

The only topic that should be evangelised on here is Celtic and, Heaven knows, there is plenty of room for debate on that subject.

As I posted years ago, the Victorians had the right idea; “Religion, Politics and the Ladies should never be discussed in polite company”.

If we all had the self awareness to keep a Celtic blog focussed on Celtic, then I believe, it would be a better place,

  20. I think it’s probably best to just ignore a certain regular antagonistic poster. I’m no shrink but I’ve come to the conclusion, having read his posts for a few years now, that there is an issue there for which we maybe need to have a little sympathy. However, it’s just my opinion. you may feel differently.

  21. Wow…just read back a couple of pages….makes the old politcal exchanges all seem a tad tame…anyway…..CULTSBHOY…agree with you reg GMS,my sons 13 and he can wait to see him in the hoops….
