Treble talk, farewell Big Mike

2035

Talk of trebles can disappear over the space of 90 minutes, and Ronny Deila will be forced to learn new patter if his team cannot regain the edge which was lost on Wednesday night at Celtic Park.  The challenge will be all the greater for the absence of cup-tied Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven, with others, including Kris Commons and Emilio Izaguirre.

Dundee United have fallen apart in the last few weeks, the departure of Armstrong and Mack-Steven has probably had something to do with this, which means they will be hurting.  Make no mistake, Celtic harmed their season by signing their best two players five weeks ago.  United will have an edge to them.

Just loving the celebrations that one of the world’s richest 400 people no longer controls a Scottish football club.  He still controls pretty much all profitable revenue streams, and holds security over assets, but he’ll no longer be asked to provide loan players, or loan cash.  They have swapped an ‘off the radar’ wealthy man for a glib and shameless liar.

Ashley repulsed many.  He was the archetypal fox let into the Ibrox hen house.  The juxtaposition of Celtic announcing a £29m shirt deal with New Balance, rights Ashley bartered for £1 at Ibrox, gives you an idea of how impaired newco are.  But allowing him to walk off with all those revenue streams, without the responsibility of running football operations, which will always lose money, is inexplicable.

I know people in the game who were concerned about having an opponent with the resources of Ashley.  That blocking SFA decision was crucial.  I don’t know anyone concerned about King, in fact, there is quiet delight at how things transpired.

Farewell Big Mike, thanks for all your work.

  3. Interesting that the GSL was still in Castlemilk up to 76 and working at Weirs in Cathcart.

I left Chateau au Lait in 72, so he could he could have been one of the big bad boys we had to avoid!

I was warned off Weirs by good neighbours and uni friends who were sponsored there as recently as 1990. Not Catholic friendly.

Shame, because I lived near there twice and fancied working and settling there

Awe Naw. As a Celtic supporter what does it profit me to spend my cash on seeing my team being cheated in favour of the Rangers ? The same goes for supporters of other teams.I watched Tommy Burns build a good Celtic team that couldnt win the title because the huns were spending money that should have been going to the Inland revenue on players we couldnt afford. When at that time other Celtic fans said we were being cheated I said they were paranoid and of course they were right I was wrong. Why would anyone help to make profits for the Rangers or Scottish football ? once bitten twice shy.H.H.l

  6. Very funny but predictable turn of events today. No need to go over the tenty trousered reaction of our “journalists” . I only fear one thing, sorry two things…firstly it’s already a done deal with the Blazers at Hampden on league reconstruction, examine Regans statement yesterday. That would not be a surprise but a sickening development. The other thing I fear is if Ashley has played them like a fiddle, I fear for my health when my sides burst.

  7. coneybhoy,

Weirs or (Clyde Union) still has the same attitude towards catholics, only, they are more sleekit about it nowadays.

In late 1882 the Highland Land League invited the former gun runner, early member and supporter of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, Mayo land leaguer, elected and disqualified MP for County Meath, and recently released radical to address a meeting in Inverness, in support of their campaign for land reform and crofters rights.

  11. The murders of the Gibraltar 3 was a shocking cold blooded act. The funerals the following week were another stark reminder of those terrible days. The one thing that always stuck with me was the collusion of the Spanish Secret Service. Despite Britain bizarrely claiming ownership of a glorified Spanish Rock, these barstewards tracked the trio through Spain and delivered them like sacrificial victims to the SAS,

As a previous poster said, memories fuel the anger and makes the blood boil again, I too must return to my “old man” status. Anyway this old man is off to a Christy Moore concert, kicking off at 8pm, hopefully he will give a rendition of La Quinta Brigada.

Gibralta Rock’s the place I died

McCann and Savage were by my side

I heard the order loud and shrill

Of Thatchers voice, said SHOOT TO KILL

So do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there, I do not sleep

Do not stand at my grave and cry

King not fit and proper until a nomad can be found. The SFA will follow on from the Nomad I presume.

SFA said anything about Paul Murray or anyone else in the Phoenix?

Any word on how much Ashley is owed or what assets he owns if they can’t pay the loans back?

How much can they raise in a share issue and how long will that last before the 9 million loses take over?

  14. Just back from a very good meal at Malaga Tapas, St Andrews Rd, near Shields Road Subway… The best Tapas I have eaten in the UK and I have had a few. Staff are all from Córdoba and Seville, well versed in the Celtic story and offer great service and fresh cooked plates of pleasure. They have good offers , honestly cannot fault the place…do yourself a favour and get in there. Advert over.

  15. A few mentions of the Gibraltar 3 on here today. I understand that they were killed by the SAS but what were they doing there..were they just on holiday?

Well, home for the weekend – time for a bit of ‘good solid’ posting – I am sure my ‘fans’ on here will be delighted.

Whatever the ‘Rangers’ story is, or, will be, we have no influence, and the media will, as always, spin the most favourable side of the goings-on.

The ‘blue sky’ headlines are – “the troubles are over, we are on our way back to the top” – on hearing the outcome, the smattering of fans outside Ibrox immediately broke into a chorus of “we are the people” – nothing changed there then.

Back to Celtic – I am always an optimistic fan, however things appear to be conspiring against us in the search for the treble.

Both full backs out – both new signings out – Kris out – JG looking across the sea to Holland – Cifti given the all clear, and a very jaded looking performance on Wednesday night.

March is of course a make, or, break month, for our season – we are just starting to look vulnerable – hope I am wrong.

    What fools these mortals be.

The Rangers hordes have just cheered to the echo the death of their last hope of escaping another death. Their shares are now non tradeable, their hopes of sustainability evaporated. Moonbeams to oblivion from a man who at present cannot legally have any directorial role. No money, no share value, bills aplenty, the whole shebang at the mercy of a man whom they have vilified and humiliated and who hates losing.

Loving it, the hubris, the delirium, the pant wetting brainlessness from the SMSM and the sheer lack of any awareness of what’s coming next.

The bears really are very very very stupid, they have seen this movie and how it ends before, and still they can’t figure it out.

He apparently wishes to return THEM to the Ethos THEY were brought up with.

For anyone born like DK, in 1955, just exactly what was that ethos?

  23. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

ANSJ – this is good for Celtic – it gives them competition.

Er, we finished 76 points ahead of Hearts. Sevco are what, 19 points behind them?

Scottish football fans are part of the scenery. The only global appeal is the Old Firm. That is what Scottish football is all about. Old Firm armchair fans are the priority here. We had our chance to distance ourselves from it. Sadly we actively bolstered the reincarnation of the Old Firm. That is why we will never officially deny they died. It would damage the Old Firm brand. Peter Lawwell will not resign from the SFA board when they approve David King. He will abstain.
