Trebles, financial doping, Police Scotland, Billy Dodds

Cup finals remain in our collective memories long after the event, cup final goals especially.  For this reason, I want Kyogo to be fit tomorrow.  He is a special player who has contributed greatly to our lives over the last two seasons.  A star of two League Cup finals, he has yet to feature in a Scottish Cup Final.  For what he has done for us, he deserves every chance to play.

Sentiment aside, Oh is a more than capable deputy.  He will almost certainly play a part tomorrow and will add to his growing reputation.

Tomoki Iwata should partner Carl Starfelt in central defence.  Celtic lack height in the team and Iwata in defence leaves us more challenged in this aspect when defending (and attacking) set-pieces.  High balls into the box are the staple of lower league teams when facing top opposition as they lack the craft to breakdown an organised defence.  Whenever Inverness get into the Celtic half, expect the ball to go wide then floated into the space above Iwata’s 5’ 10” frame.  At the very least, we can expect him not to be easily shoved aside.

My rule of thumb is that Daizen Maeda does better against teams who attack Celtic and is less effective when they defend deep, denying him the space to exploit his pace and industry.  However Ange Postecoglou will surely start him and Jota in the wide attacking positions.  Liel Abada’s appearance is likely to be as a second half substitute.

In the continued absence of Aaron Mooy through injury, the midfield of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley picks itself.  Inverness will do well to keep tabs on those three.

It is with a heavy heart I write about Billy Dodds.  He seems an affable character that I have no dislike for.  Whenever I hear his name, his part in the Grand Conspiracy to hide facts and money from the SFA, the SPL and HMRC, are first to mind.

As I highlighted on CQN in May 2012 at the height of the Rangers Oldco/Newco frenzy, ex-Rangers player Dodds wrote in The Herald, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust.   And I said that I would.   It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”

He was one of the few who went on the record to confirm that money paid into his EBT was contractual salary and was subject to payroll taxes, adding that David Murry deducted payroll taxes before paying into Dodds EBT.  If this is the case, Dodds was very badly advised, given he became embroiled in an issue which afforded him zero benefit.

Police Scotland were quick to act against one side in the battle for the ‘bag of assets’ which constituted Newco Rangers, but showed no interest in evidence from Dodds.  Welcome to Scotland, where conspiracies are written up by involved parties in The Herald but remain out of reach by the authorities.  Billy remains available to give evidence, he’ll not be difficult to find at Hampden.

Win the Scottish Cup tomorrow.  Do it for the world-record eighth treble, for everything we were denied during the financial doping years, for the decades spent when such successes were a fantasy.  These are great days to be a Celtic supporter, enjoy them!

  6. The number of sources saying Ange is Offski is immaterial,

They just copy each other most of them haven’t a clue.

What we do know for sure is their is a vacancy at Spurs we also know that Ange has created waves since he took over the Celtic Job and his name will be linked with any EPL vacancy that occurs.

My opinion and it’s only an opinion is that he will stay with us for another year at least.

We will probably have a clearer picture of what’s happening early next week.

However as others have alluded the Spurs Circus has taken the Spotlight off the Cup Final which is a real pity.

Trebles are an exclusive commodity in recent years we have been spoiled but those of us of a certain vintage can clearly remember the bleak years.

Tomorrow we can set a World Record, The Huns for Years have lived off having the most Trophies, tomorrow we can just be one behind the combined efforts of the 2 Hun teams.

This is heady times be happy that you are alive today to watch Celtic and see History unfold.

Ange is a small part of Celtic History, if he stays with us he can be a bigger part , if he doesn’t we carry on, like all Celts have done before us.

No one is bigger than the Club.

*I have always hoped we would never equal or beat our 7-1 record but hopefully smash it the morra if only tae shut the hun smsm up, now I have no quarrel with the caley thistle mob, in fact I spent a wonderful couple of days up there 6 year ago when I took my Outlander loving daughters up for a visit to Culloden.

I was there at hunden 51 year ago when we absolutely destroyed an excellent hibbee side 6-1 thereby equaling the record at the time set by Renton, who else, when they beat Cambuslang, a side that had won the initial Glasgow Cup beating the Kinning Park side the week before, by the same score 3 months after we were founded practically to the day and 4 months before our first game against the deid team, and no their swifts as they now claim, with a side that contained our first captain, Burns Street Renton’s pride an joy James Kelly and our first goal scorer Pappart Bonhill’s son of Donegal Neilly McCallum who grabbed a brace that day.

I like my podcasts….I listened to quite an interesting one with Sam Allerdyce and Tim Sherwood…..Sherwood ex spurs boss if briefly

The girl Natalie someone who was asking the questions asked them both…..Will Ange be new spurs manager…they both said No….Sherwoods reasoning he thinks Ange might have unfinished business. ..but while slightly excited I then realised he was just repeating what Neil lennon had told them the week before !….

  25. I seldom post on here – more a reader of this blog, and SC.

Regarding the media frenzy around Ange and the will he, won’t he leave…

    A few observations.

Do Celtic have a tremendously important upcoming match?

Do Celtic have a highly successful manager who is adored by our fans?

Is there a managers vacancy somewhere in England’s top flight?

If the answer to all 3 questions is YES…what are the odds on the media linking our manager with any such EPL club?

Media trying to unsettle our players/fans/club in the run up to a major final – ☑️

Supporters fall for it and discuss the prospect of losing their manager, rather than focussing on our fantastic opportunity to win another treble – ☑️

    Media mission accomplished – ☑️

I can’t believe the number of supporters who are stressing over this (potentially non) story. It’s all hypothetical folks.

We should, imo, put all thoughts aside just now regarding anything other than a potentially momentous day in the sun tomorrow. Let’s focus entirely on the match.

Judging by the players pre-match media comments, they are thankfully relaxed about the current media frenzy – and will be focusing on winning the cup.

With regards to what Ange should or should not say to the media…has everyone forgotten that Ange has no time for the lunatic press/media ghouls? He gives them blunt answers to stupid questions every single week of the season. Why would he suddenly roll over and fall into their trap of answering every question about links to other clubs? Cause if he does it once, he’d surely need to do it every time. And as Ange said this week – we’ve had this dance many times already this season. Ange is not going to give answers that suit these media ghouls. He’ll happily give them feck all encouragement with questions he’d rather not face repeatedly.

Another thing – how many of us think Ange has earned a new and improved contract? How many of us think the club would like to rip up his 12 month rolling contract (with limited financial gain to the club when he leaves) and tie Ange down to a longer term contract that has enhanced financial benefits should another club come calling?

I think we’d all agree that both Ange (via his agent) and the club would be open to improving his current contract.

In such a scenario (which is highly likely playing out as we speak) much negotiation will take place. The club will want to offer X. Ange’s agent will ask for Z. Hopefully they can agree on Y.

If I was Ange’s agent, I would be THRILLED with my client being linked with much higher paid jobs. It will aid him in any negotiations with our club. It’s called leverage (in negotiations).

If I was Ange’s agent, I’d be the one feeding the media frenzy. I’d be advising Ange not to say anything that would harm those negotiations.

Why should Ange come out and say he’s not interested in quadrupling his wage (and media profile) by stating he’s staying at our club next year. It weakens his agent’s negotiating position.

It would also be very arrogant, if indeed this media frenzy was actually unsubstantiated.

If Spurs actually came out publicly and said they wanted to talk to our manager, then it’s a different ball game. But they haven’t. SoAnge would look very silly to dismiss talk of joining a club that hasn’t actually asked about him.

Spurs may also be happy to see numerous managers linked with their vacancy, if they think it will help them tie down their preferred candidate. ie let their preferred manager think he might not get the gig if he tries to haggle for too much.

As I say, it’s all hypothetical anyway.

Let’s focus on (hopefully) a great, historic day tomorrow!

Phew!… I’m glad I got that off my chest lol

  26. As to those who think Ange would not ask players to come from the other side of the world, and then leave for another job….gies peace!
