Uefa FFP-Covid arrangements

208

Uefa yesterday confirmed how they would deal with with Financial Fair Play (FFP) with respect to the crisis.  Their statement had a bit of something for everyone: those who are keen to see FFP rules applied and those who are looking for some wriggle room.

Of the six emergency measures, two encapsulated both sides of this coin:

“Neutralising the adverse impact of the pandemic by allowing clubs to adjust the break-even calculation for revenue shortfalls reported in 2020 and 2021, while at the same time protecting the system from potential abuses

“Addressing the actual problem which is revenue shortfall due to COVID-19 and not financial mismanagement”

Protecting the system from potential abusers and not providing cover for financial mismanagement are strong messages.  Miscreant clubs who have wallowed in financial mismanagement are under Uefa monitoring remain under pressure, the best they can hope for is a one-year reprieve from consequences.

Congratulations to SPFL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, who was appointed to the Uefa Disciplinary Body yesterday, recognition, I’m sure, of the manner he handled himself in recent months.

  1. SFTBs,

Always a pleasure reading your posts. No hysterics,no knee jerk reactions.

  2. Good Morning Bhoys and Ghirls

Very good debate over the last few days, most enjoyable, and civil.

Proud of all taking part in a representation of true values and solidarity with fellow human beings today in George Square. Stay safe most of all, and don’t let the fascists drag you in to confrontation.

  3. Tony Rome,

On the subject of rebates. When did filling in a form suddenly become a dastardly ruse to stop people getting their money?.You mentioned earlier how the mob across the City, were “Keeping their hordes onside”If giving them a 25 quid voucher to spend on Stadium tours, with no other option,is the way to go,maybe we should have done the same.Aye right.Celtic are not the ones saying non ST holders cannot watch the Streamed games. That is Sky TVs doing.

The ST pricing. You know as well as I do,that is our main source of funding.Everyone that is a holder, would have re-newed.Celtic have made sure everyone of these ST holders will see the home games. How much has that cost the club. Its not free. For one season, hopefully less,is it too much to try and keep the club financially sound,by backing them.We will come out of this, and personally,I would want them to be as near as possible,as sound as when we went in.I have 2 STs,I did not take the rebates,I already paid for this season,I pay for Celtic TV,although I can stream it here for free.I only mention this, before some come on with”How much do you put into the club”comments appear.Only my family come before Celtic, would do anything for them.I used to think we were all the same. The more I read, seems not.In this regard, seems the Hun hordes are putting us to shame.

Just the fact you have to search for a form print it off and fill it in leave the house and go to a over crowded post office to stand in a queue to safely post your claim and during this health crisis put your health and that of others at risk shows at least to me although the rebate was offered they were hoping to put people off reclaiming their cash. The club have people on furlough and although they are making up staff wages they know many people are not so lucky. In this day and age any forward thinking company would be able to do this electronically. I have seen on these pages how their actions have altered peoples mindset regards the rebate. Regards what happened across the city I couldn’t give a monkeys what they do. Congratulations on your financial support of the club and that’s another thing I don’t care about if you can afford toput the cash in do it if you can’t it doesn’t make you any les sof a supporter in my eyes. You would also think a club in such a strong financial position could at least be creative regards season ticket prices for this highly unusual season.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  5. Praise for Doncaster?

Is this the first sign of a gradual maneuvering towards embracing and lauding the five way agreement as being good for Celtic?

  6. glendalystonsils on

Listening to Roy Keane’s comments at half time last night , I thank god that he is nowhere near Celtic .

Calling him old school is unfair on old school . More like half pissed neanderthal.

  7. SFTB

    SOCHI 10 Rosotv 1

Rostov had 6 players tested positive for Covid

    Hence whole squad in quaratine

Sochi refused to postpone game so Rostov played with youth team including a 16 year old.

Rostov should get Anne Budge on it.

  8. Tony Rome,

Reading the E-Tims Diary today, they are advocating that we try and buy Moi and big Frazer, saying we could maybe get Moi for 8 million, but his wages are 60 grand at the moment.Big Frazer,10 million, wages,at the moment, 70 grand..That’s 2 players.Even if we could get both for 16 million, and wages of 100 grand a week,in a year that would wipe out our ST money for the same year.Just an example of what many fans expect, but some ,it seems, dont want to pay for.Keep Eddy ,Ajer, get in another CH,another LB,it goes on.

    Anyway,stay safe,Hail Hail.

  9. Ooft Sutton giving it to them tight in the Daily Ranger. Needless to say I have put a few add ins, feel free to add again.

  14. The plinth features a stanza from Herbert L Peacock’s 1938 poem, A Ship for Spain.

    ‘I had a ship,’the captain said,

‘A ship that sailed for Spain,

And if I had that ship right now

    I’d sail there once again.

‘I’d take a story with me then

    And let the people know

    In Barcelona why their bread

    Is fathoms deep below.

‘With my own lips I’d to them say:

    The English people true

Want you to hold against a foe

But it’s more than the Government do.

‘Any fool with eyes could see

When the planes swept over low

They didn’t give a damn for the Union Jack

    Spread-out across the bow.

‘And why don’t they care for the English

    flag

And the rules of the bloody game?

    Because they know that Chamberlain

    Has traded the English name.

‘Has traded the name to the Japanese,

    Licked Mussolini’s boots,

Let Hitler get hold of the Austrian lands

For you doesn’t care two hoots.

‘We sent a wire when we got to land,

    And in Parliament next day,

Franco’s lackey got up and said

We just went there for our pay.

‘These are the taunts we have to bear

From the traitors we’ve got at home.

From the traitors who sullied the English

    name

And played second fiddle to Rome.

    ‘I had a ship,’the captain said,

‘A ship that sailed for Spain,

And when I get another ship

    I’ll sail there once again.’

Then, as now, and forever, no pasaran!

  16. Chairbhoy

“We have done the “spending money to get European football” debate as well as “what is Celtic’s true level of success” many times over the last decade. These debates are worth revisiting but conflating them with the Club ownership structure is hard to follow.”

I thought I had explained that in my first response.

I do not have an opposition to a fan owned Celtic; I do have opposition to the characterisation you gave to the difference displayed by a fan owned Celtic, namely, that they would be prepared to take a hit and go again, after big spending did not lead to CL qualification.

My view is that fan owned or Board-run, we should live within our means and not be going further into debt to fund a “big spend guarantees success” fallacy. My argument is over transfer policy not ownership.

I have more time for the arguments of Auldheid and Celtic1member1 vote, because we should ahve more influence in relation to the amount of money we contribute to Celtic year on year.

But if we buy big and it does not come good, we have to rein our spending in, and take the bath on our mistaken spend- not repeat it until we have an expensively assembled aged squad with no re-sale value.

If I could guarantee that fans would buy into that policy, I would be convinced fully that it is better to move swiftly to fan ownership.

Unfortunately, the fans in general will always, I believe, vote to spend more, regardless, and I don’t know how you stop or control that tendency.

As for Res 12 and this year’s renewal strateggy from the Board, I condemn both without equivocation. They have not been open and they have taken the support for granted on the renewal issue. On Res 12, they have been worse; they have lied and they have wasted fans’ time and energy in being misled for so long by their lying.

what’s this rubbish if Southampton & said players Agents looking for ten million for Fraser Foster plus seventy grand a week wages & Elonusie eight million transfer fee & sixty grand a week wages ffs if

these so called gob shite rumours are true then inform Southampton & said players Agents to sling

there hook & get real under the present state of the economy/covid19 & so called social distancing

with no paying supporters @ present allowed in to watch live football in the Stadiums this so called

rumour sounds like media crap & certain individuals need to take a reality check I’ve also heard this

so called world health problem could drag onto 2023 before things start to get back to normal with

twenty years plus of Austerity to look forward too & no doubt the price of living in the UK will rise

In fact going to the Dentist which is an inscrutiating experience @ times will only be allowed to see

one patient every hour & one has to fill in untold amount of forms & go through a pathetic rigmaroll

just to go to the Dentist & no doubt pay an increased charge as well aye right it looks like I will extract

my own teath in future if need be what a bloody “The New Normal Mess” aye not right this so called

Pandemic has been exploited to say the least & has revealed one big Clusster F**K that’s for sure

What a bloody mess so to get back to the said topic if said Club & Agents think that our Club is a

soft touch then they can sling their hook ten million plus 70K weekly wage packet for a third choice

Goalkeeper who is basically just a Shot Stopper who does not even command his six yard box & is

suspect to blunders like the two goals he let in against Livingston @ Almondvale/The Tony Macaroni

Small Ground over the two matches that where played there last Season 2019/20 & eight million

Transfer fee plus 60K weekly wage packet for a player who hardly kicked a ball the second half of

last Season our Club should inform them thanks but no thanks & get real Hail Hail All AKBW1888

  18. Congratulations to Barrow AFC on being promoted back into English senior league football after 48 years away.

I became a distant Barrow supporter after I used to go on holiday to the caravan site on Walney Island in late 60’s and early 70’s when my uncle Bernie worked in the shipyard.

  19. you are right Tony Rome our Club has been a bit stingy when it comes to short changing us the

supporters frinstance Motherwell have stated that if for example seven home matches are

played behind closed doors then they will refund their supporters by not charging them for

the following Season 2021/22 first seven home matches which is fair our Club are not going

to do that instead they are offering us to watch said behind closed doors home matches via

Sunset + Vine (BT Sport) I’ve heard of Sunset & Vine anyway I hope the viewing service the

said so called package provides is better than Celtic TV Quality wise which is Poor/Rubbish

What our Club (Celtic FC PLC) should be looking @ @ least is “Freezing” the following

Season 2021/22 Season Card Prices & Considering that said prices now have increased

over the last four Seasons in other words since RD & JC have left it’s only Fair

  20. Tony Rome I’ve also heard that last Season’s cancelled four home matches due to Covid19

refund will be processed @ the end of this month so no doubt it will be the end of July 2020

before everyone has finally been paid back

  21. right I’m jackanoski/offski to watch You-Tube there is untold amount of interesting viewing on

You-Tube where one can learn stuff watch illutionist “Dynamo” what how did he do that?

Some rat scammers getting noised up/triggered as the Yanks would say & basically common

people getting things off of their chest/gripes you even get some idiots on there thinking

that they are “Social Media Celebs” & are entitled to big hotel discounts aye get real numpties

how are hotels meant to pay their staff if they are being short changed anyway You-Tube is

not bad in fact I would say that it’s better than normal TV which mainly show repeats &

rubbish anyway folks I bid you all a pleasant Evening Go-On-The-Bhoys & Get-It-In-There

  22. So BBC to show their first ever EPL game live, Bournemouth v Crystal Palace Beeb 1, 7.15pm

Amazing given that the Beeb have paid hundreds of millions over the years…

That was just for the highlights!

  23. SFTB

As for Res 12 and this year’s renewal strateggy from the Board, I condemn both without equivocation. They have not been open and they have taken the support for granted on the renewal issue. ——-

This can be demonstrated along with £11k of shareholders money raised and spent in the mistaken belief that Celtic and shareholders shared the same aim of SFA reform.

A general question. Should those responsible be censured to deter any repeat?
