Unacceptable conduct’s interesting consequence

674

We had an interesting couple of announcements from the Scottish Premier League yesterday.  Safe Standing areas, where instead of a seat, spectators have a crush barrier in front of them, is no longer against league rules.  Before the introduction of standing areas council Health and Safety officials would need to give approval, as do the police.  Council approval should be straightforward, crush barriers separating each row of spectators make the environment safe, but I’m less sure the police will be keen.

Policing huge stadiums with seated spectators is straightforward compared to policing standing fans.  Disturbances tend to cause those involved to stand up, drawing immediate attention to the incident, while knowing exactly who is sitting on which seat would allow transgressors of the Scottish Governments new interpretation on making the sign of the cross to be pursued after the event.

League rules (note: not the law of the land) have also been updated to clarify the definition of “Unacceptable Conduct” as ‘using words, conduct or displaying any writing or other thing which indicates support for, or affiliation to, or celebration of, or opposition to an organisation proscribed in terms of  the Terrorism Act 2000’.

New rules on how clubs are expected to tackle Unacceptable Conduct, with fresh procedures, if necessary, have also been introduced.  Clubs are now required to bring occurrences of Unacceptable Conduct to the Match Commander.  Failure to do so will bring the club into breach, should an incident subsequently be reported, by TV spectators, for example.

Clubs are also charged to “Take reasonably practical steps, including consultation with police, to identify those who engage in Unacceptable Conduct”, which creates obvious dissonance with the new Safe Standing Area policy.

We’ll see how these rules work out in practice but look out for an interesting consequence.  Some Celtic fans are often cited as singing about the IRA (who are on the Proscribed list in their various historical formats) but they are not the supporters who sing most about that organisation(s).  That ‘honour’ falls to Rangers fans, who are bound not to sing in “opposition to an organisation proscribed”.

The notion that Rangers (and let’s not forget Hearts) are compelled to identify and sanction any of their supporters caught “effin’ the IRA” in fear any TV viewer reports them is what keeps this country unique.

Box clever.

  1. Was in and out of the car all evening but I heard enough of Clyde to expose the rank hypocrisy and cheerleading of Darrell King.

Early in the show he said Rangers would “look for £10m for Jelavich, but a bid of £8m would probably be considered”.

Later on he was talking about David Templeton of Hearts possibly going to Rangers and Hearts’ valuation of £2.5m “Everyone knows they are on their uppers so there is no way they will get that kind of money”

    He’s just a supporter with a typewriter.

Im hoping to get over mate, Seans Cypriot wedding cancellation has taken a weight off with her still being on holiday/maternity.

Every bus in the north and Donegal is fully booked.

We have 4 tickets out of 5, (can get another one no bother) so we are trying to con the one without a ticket into agreeing to drive on a day trip on the basis we manage to get him a ticket.

He was on his works night out when I first approached him so overly keen (hes a teacher, very rarely works) so my next ploy is to phone him 1st thing when hes hungover and tell him we need to get a car booked on right away before the boats fully booked – a day without drink probably wont sound just as outrageous.

If he refuses il drive – but im not going to jump in with that one feet first :)

  3. If Hun isn’t a naughty word should we expect a plethora of banners mentioning the aforementioned Asiatic people on the 28th?

Darrell King tonight exemplified his brilliant command of the details and facts of the tax case.

I am in awe of his brilliance.

But to be fair, he has been briefed by Jack Irvine that “this is all getting sorted” rather than fabricating it.

Now, Mr Whyte might be misconstruing some other discussions he is having with HMRC. There again, a man who could skip the country and leave a huge tax bill unpaid- and sort it all out to return without any consequences- well he would feel justified in feeling confident about the future.

    So – who is better?

    Boyd or Larsson?

    —————————————————————————————————————————————-

It has to be Chrisy Boyd all the Scots papers say so so it must be true thats the guy that went from Rangers to the Championship, then out on loan to various elite teams in the lower leagues in England he then went to ply his trade at a an unknown Turkish team he is undoubtedly a class act . Who the Feck is Larsson anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  14. Heard from a a large RFC investor last week he thought that they had a deal with HMRC. I get on well with this guy and said do you think Whyte was being honest he said he thought so but they dont have as much access to the marble staircase since Whyte came to town.

I think all this talk of a deal is Whyte buying time and when it all goes pear shaped he will say he tried but this HOC select committee report put pressure on HMRC to get full recovery on monies owed.

The LL are playing along with Whyte’s game as usual and if large investors are convinced they have a deal I think they are soooo desperate for good news. The transfer window will expose what he is really up to if he sells puts them into admin and runs some of the FF brigade will hunt him down and Monaco will not be far enough

  15. This is the same King who I heard tonight on the radio (I was in the car collecting the weans from dancing) espouse the virtues and values of the balanced Scottish media. I wonder who he was there to support!?

Is he the same diddy I heard laughing with Alan Brazil on Talksport this morning about the only time he’d stood in the Jungle was when Parkhead was used as a neutral venue for cup finals.

Hun fud is kidding no one.

  16. Not the Rangers news on

Rangers are lining up a stunning double transfer swoop for Manchester City’s Micah Richards and Vincent Kompany. City are understood to be very reluctant to sell the key duo but cannot compete with the big spending Glasgow giants. Manager Alistair McCoist was understandably reluctant to discuss the sensational move but did say anyone brought in would find it difficult to displace any of the current players in the first team.

The on off transfer of Niki Jelavic came a step closer last night when Bayern Munich agreed to add Arjen Robben to the £19Million bid from the weekend, Rangers are likely to accept the new bid.

Kirk Broadfoot last night pleaded with manager Alistair to allow him to join Sevilla after they lodged a £5Million bid to take him to La Liga before his contract runs out, Sevilla, who were thrashed by Real Madrid at the weekend, see the flying Scotsman as crucial to shore up their leaky defence.

Robin Van Persie last night pleaded with Rangers to end his Emirates hell. The elegant Dutchman wants to follow in the footsteps of Bert Konterman and make the move to the SPL leaders. Rangers are monitoring the situation and are understood to be reluctant to pay the transfer fee quoted but could be persuaded if RVP paid 3/4s of the fee.

As we reported last night, the North African consortium linked with a cash injection of £850Million into the burgeoning Ibrox coffers today confirmed our exclusive and said talks were at an advanced stage and there was broad agreement in principle. More as we get it.

JUST HOW LONG CAN RANGERS KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT?

Great me thinks, he is going to pan them about getting dodgey decisions every game. Dratt it wisnae. He was on about how bad they are!! Why are the so poor? He added.

Then I thought as I read it again tonight. It sounds more like a prayer!!

  18. ibleedgreenandwhite1: – Marvellous, makes me laugh out loud every time.

I’m sure this was after the Hibs v Rangers draw in ’08 when the Huns started to wobble badly, he knew what was coming and the rest is history.

He sounded quite similar tonight! :-)

    Found this on facebook

highlight of a previous glasgow derby

I got in the way of a Kayal pass and the ball broke to Davies ,he passed to Edu and Edu slotted a perfect pass through to Jelavick who slotted it into the back of the net ,overcome by the atmosphere I pulled off my shirt and ran straight into the ecstatic rangers fans to enjoy the celebrations ,then I thought …oh shit I am in trouble here .I realised I had not blown my whistle for the goal .

rumour has it ,it was from a W cullom;-))))))

  20. Just found this unattributed quote. Seems quite apt given the situation, that if is one accepts Celtic have an irish heritage. If not please scroll on.

Culture is the total of inherited ideas, beliefs, values and knowledge which constitutes the shared basis of social action. It is the total range of activities and ideas of a people and the music and song are a mode of expression of culture. The Irish people are the inheritors of Irish culture, a people who believe in freedom for all nations. By freedom I mean the quality or state of being free, especially to enjoy political and civil liberties which include the liberty to sing one’ own songs, play one’s own music and to dance one’s own dances.

  24. The thing about Darryl King is we all know he is a wee hun,and he knows that we know too lol!!

I love when his voice gets all high pitched, because it means one of the callers are getting stuck into his beloved Gers(sons of bub).

Mark Guidi was good tonight,he acknowleged that there are indeed certain journos in the Scottish Meeja who will not criticise the Huns no matter what, which had King backtracking furiously,as he had previously stated that there was no bias at all in the Meeja!!!

    Hail hail

  25. Read somewhere that Suarez’s quote to the Evra translated something like “little black fellow” which is not a deragatory term in Uruguay. Mind you the little guy wasn’t best pleased when he whispered it to Evra. My Uruguayan is quite poor but I do know that one of their national football heroes – a black footballer – his nickname was “the monkey”. There are quite a few other phrases in common use which would be viewed as racist in GB.

Anyways – given this – and the news tonight that “Hun” is not considered a forbidden word I would just like all my Hun friends to know that I’m quite comfortable with being a “fenian bastard.”
