Victims of Rangers rampant vanity

157

Millionaires are immune from the most severe consequences of redundancy but well down the list of sorry human tales to walk away from Rangers today are likely to a whole lot of people on low paid jobs they are no longer able to retain.  They will become victims of rampant vanity, victims of Rangers.  It doesn’t matter which team they support, or how they feel about you or Celtic,  I hope they all find work soon.

That’s the point that can’t get lost today and you’ve put it brilliantly.

Millionaire footballers at the end of their careers will be fine.

Young footballers starting out will be able to find new clubs.

Failed metal dealers will be able to hawk another £70m worth of shares for their failed companies in lieu of actually paying what they owe.

The ordinary members of staff will have to work out how to feed their kids, pay their bills and try and find work in a depressing jobs market.

  2. From STV

Matt McKay admits he wishes he had “done a bit more research” before agreeing to sign for Rangers.

The Australian midfielder brought a six-month stay in Glasgow to a close last week, agreeing to join South Korean side Busan I’Park.

McKay made just three appearances during his time in the Scottish Premier League. Although he was down the pecking order at Ibrox, he says manager Ally McCoist had asked him to bide his time at the club.

“I spoke to him a week before the club went into administration and he was keen to keep me,” McKay told The Courier-Mail.

“He saw me as a player that will fit into the squad very well in the future, but not right now. He told me that my chances would come, mainly because after administration really kicked in, I’d be a very senior Rangers player once the under-9’s had been registered as replacements for the first team squad.

“I wish I had done things in a different manner and done a bit more research [before signing for Rangers. But it was an opportunity I had to take and I’ll learn from it.

“I’ve really thought about this move. The Korean league should suit me because they are generally wee over there.”

McKay, who will line up for his new club as the K-League season gets underway this weekend, says he is disappointed he wasn’t given the chance to shine in Glasgow.

“I thought I didn’t do that bad to not warrant ever playing again,” he said. “I felt I could have done a job… I just wasn’t given an opportunity. And it’s not sour grapes, I’m glad to be out of there.

“It’s disappointing that it didn’t work out that way but I’m man enough to move on.

“I’m not going to sit there, just collect my money and not play, it was getting really boring. Naismith and Lafferty cry a lot. That’s not who I am.”

Wholeheartedly agree with your article with the exception of the kitman.

Also in conversation with a Rangers supporting friend of mine he thought they had to make people redundnat within 14 days of administration and could not do so afterwards? Any thoughts on this?

My reply was that probably means liquidation (deadpan like).

  4. Agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments of the article Paul67. I would like to express my solidarity with the medium to low paid workers who are losing their jobs today – whoever they work for.

They will not be the last if the government get their way. I hope the well paid players and management they served will see fit to dig in to their pockets and ‘see them right’ as they leave their jobs.

Easy enough for him to say though,in retrospect, given that he is probably in receipt of top rate DLA.

Kudos to the magnificent Celtic support, for the grace and humility that is being shown here.

I might be a bit thick at times but I cant understand why fixture lists would be subject to a copyright dispute.

    ====

This situation is one of the symptoms of just how greedy, and money-driven, the football authorities are. League fixtures in Scotland and England and other countries, are not in the public domain. The authorities sell off publication rights to 3rd parties. They then own the copyright on these and charge significant fees to anyone wishing to use, or publish them including (I believe) clubs themselves. If you run a fanzine, or a small fan website, you have to pony up just like the big boys if you want to publish your clubs upcoming fixtures. It is a sorry state of affairs for our national game. It’s equivalent to copyrighting the names of the days of the week IMO.

So this EU ruling may be a step in the right direction to rectify this.

Why has the Home button been moved from the bottom of the page to the top?. Very annoying!!

  12. To show concern for others is an admirable tribute ( a human tribute , incidentally. It does annoy me when some hijack it as a “Christian” quality). So , I can understand the sympathy being offered to those who lose their jobs at Ibrox. The truth is, lots of people lose their jobs every day. Why are we , therefore, deciding to highlight the plight of those at Ibrox? To show how decent we are compared to THEM, perhaps?

    I don`t like it.

  13. The RFC scenario appears to be boiling down to a few key aspects.

    1. If Ticketus are water tight with their £24m, the more likely outcome for RFC is liquidation as their income stream for the next 3 years is significantly diluted (irrespective of the outcome of the FTT).

    2. If the Administrators can find a legal way to negate the Ticketus ownership of future ticket sales, and therefore make available to RFC their full income stream for the next 3 years, they might – just might – be able to come out of administration if the FTT goes their way.

    3. Irrespective of what happens with 1 and 2 above, if the FTT goes against RFC the likely outcome would be liquidation.

Not withstanding an “off the radar” billionaire (by the way, how ironic has that phrase turned out to be – probably the most accurate statement the mainstream media have made regarding the entire saga – his wealth is undetectable, even by radar!) showing up to throw £50m into Hector’s bucket, the future looks extremely bleak if you have the misfortune to support RFC or be employed by RFC.

I personaly would prefer Rangers to survive and pay back the monies they owe that would cripple them for many years to come.However.I feel its very unlikely that they will survive I think they will eventualy be liquidated allowing a new 2012 Rangers to be formed .I also think there maybe at least another 3 SPL clubs who could go to the wall before the seasons end Scottish football is in a steep decline.H.H.

@BBCDouglsFraser Ticketus parent firm Octopus tells investors it’s “comfortable” with its £24m #Rangers deal, but “cannot and does not guarantee capital”

This Ticketus thing still baffles me. They own future tickets, therefore they are not creditors, but they are ‘comfortable’ ?? If Rangers go into liquidation they won’t even be IN the creditors queue, since their 24M+ asset would then be worth zip, yet they are ‘comfortable’? Where and what are their guarantees that allow them to be this ‘comfortable’?

    —————————————

I believe that Ticketus take out insurance policies against this type of occurrence. So maybe that’s why they are ‘comfortable’.

    Well said Paul

Doesn’t matter their colour or creed, redundancies of the non playing staff will be hard for their families. And just as there are blue noses on the payroll at Celtic the reverse will also be the case at Ibrox too. Good luck to them all.

    Ppppppppp

I have a very faint memory that the copyright was established because the task of conpiling lists was seen to be complicated and required a degree of skill (eg, not having teams from the same area playing at home on the same day, even when they don’t play in the same league).

The leagues would retain fixture lists to try to prevent match-fixing -as happened in England in the late 1950s- bookies paid for the lists to compile fixed odds.

Given that a child with a computer could now compile fixture lists, the courts are probably of the view that there is no ‘original’ or ‘creative’ element.

  20. jock steins celtic on

Ticketus’ position is that they are not creditors but owners of the tickets in question. Whether these tickets will exist in the years to come is the question Ticketus will be asking themselves and if any Newco is bound by this deal. I do not believe purchasing insurance would have been an option for them on this deal.

Do you have any info on the plans the club has to upgrade the surrounds of CP?

The initial release of the masterplan was Sept / Oct 2009 and I have not heard anymore regarding details and timing.

It has become an issue because plans have recently published on “Urban Realm” for the triangular site next to the Indoor Arena / Velodrome at Springfield Cross which is built around a mid market hotel, some shops and a health centre.

Consequently the club and especially PL need to get things moving, there is a huge opportunity to upgrade and enhance the surrounds but we seem to be getting left behind.

We should be pushing for the FastLink upmarket bus to be routed along London Road to provide a East End corridor to match the proposed West leg heading for the SECC and all points Govan / NGSGH.

Huge potential for the club in all of this.

However their original plans were pretty poor.

Consequently we need some leadership from the board.

Finally to be a bit political the plans put forward for the Springfield Cross site are missing one very large element – the Sport Scotland offices that were planned under JMcC in 2005/06 but which have been put in cold storage since Wee Eck managed to slither his way into the top job in Auld Reekie.

  22. I found Charlie Adams sanguine response to RFC travails quite curious:

“I am not interested. It is nothing to do with me, I don’t need to say anything.

“The only person I am interested in is my brother. My brother is there and for me, that’s the important thing.

“He might lose his job and it is going to be difficult.

“I have spoken to Grant but that remains private between us because he is my brother and that’s the way it goes.

“But the rest of it, it is nothing to do with me. I can’t affect what has happened there and what has gone before.

“That’s the situation Rangers are in and they have to deal with it. I don’t have any bad feelings (towards Rangers).

“At the end of the day, whatever I say won’t make a difference.

“They are in a bad way, everybody know that, let’s get on with it, deal with it and move on.”

Seeing that they are about to make a full team of players redundant set me thinking about which 11 it will be.

Will it be the 11 for the Champions’ League team, the 11 for the domestic cups team or the 11 for the SPL team.
