When exceptional becomes the norm

869

As this clean sheet run has continued, every time Fraser Forster has made a good save, I’ve found myself suggesting that the defence is not playing as tightly as it used to.  We quickly regard exceptional performance as the norm.

Fraser has, of course, been exceptional, again, this season.  Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk are fast and commanding.  Virgil has a presence about him, like Wanyama, but bigger.  On the flanks, despite the lack of competition, Emilio Izaguirre is performing at his best, while Adam Matthews, Mikael Lustig and Darnell Fisher have shuffled through the right back position as availability dictates.

I have a notion that Scott Brown is also worth credit for the defensive performance.  He seems to have grown this season, perhaps as a consequence of fitness.  This is his best season yet.

Ultimately the game is all about tactics.  Any team can keep a clean sheet but 10-in-a-row (get used to reading that) is a consequence of team plan, which is where Neil Lennon comes in.

Tomorrow is the final day to confirm tickets for our CQteN St Patrick’s Day Dinner on 14 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  The dinner will raise funds to build a kitchen at Kholoni Primary School in Mchinji, Malawi, where 1200 kids currently attend without food facilities.  If you have lost your invoice email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com

See you there.

I think that the board is justified.

The club should salt away a few quid, build up a nice cash reserve for the 10-I-A-R objective.

Obviously the most effective means of generating funds is to qualify for the CL group stages, every season.

It is indeed a fine balancing act.

I meant to say the thing about the easier process came from a police spokesperson, so I’m inclined to go with it. As I said I still think that’s appalling.

I simply don’t buy that they’ve handed over the details of all 30k+ ST holders because if that was the case they’d be liable for a fine for each individual whose details was illegally shared. Anybody fancy taking them to court?

Are there any players in particular that you would like to sign for the club, or are you advocating that the club buys players just for the sake of squandering money?

Negsnon I think they have spent enough the last two seasons but thid year was s gamble but if we don’t this year will cause meltdown

  10. 16 roads I am far from an expert. But even I know we need a striker. And yet we won’t buy one.mmmmmmm mmmm

  11. Pablo they don’t care and they think they have got rid of dissent (that was the point of the GB ban after all)

I’ve spent years praying for the situation we find ourself in. Especially having endured the smith years. Yet we find some people will never be happy

  13. Goodnight all. If any of the usual suspects actually have the balls to debate then I look forward to it.

    No.

We do not need a new striker at this moment in time, because the team is scoring plenty of goals.

Europe is an altogether different kettle of fish, I will concede you that.

Where are all these brilliant strikers, and more importantly… how much are they going to cost, furthermore are these top class strikers keen to ply their trade in Scottish football?

I have said on here many times that Celtic should sue the SFA for 22 trophies that Celtic shouldnt have bothered showing up for during the excessive and proven cheating during the Smith years. Yes they have no money but then a plea bargain deal should entail that Rangers have 22 of their trophies rescinded and awarded to whatever team came in second retrospectively. Like Ayr Utd. Apparently no ones interested :)

You don’t actually have proof, or have seen proof though.

My answer makes far more sense anyway. If Celtic are all too happy to get rid of some of the ‘unsavoury’ fans (and I’m not saying they’re not) and they’ve set up a system whereby the police just have to email over some seat details (or similar easy step) to get them , then why would they bother risking a breach of the DPA by giving the whole database over? It’s too risky.

  18. 16 roads - Wee Oscar the Celtic warrior. on

    Magill – I agree.

We weren’t the only football club in Scotland that they robbed blind.

They cheated a few very good and fair Aberdeen teams out league titles as well.

Fraud on a massive scale it was, aided and abetted by the Masonic.

Now is the time to exact revenge on der hun for their crimes against football and fair play.

Racing Santander players refused to play over unpaid wages and forced their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Real Sociedad to be abandoned.

They would not challenge for the ball after their home quarter-final second leg kicked off.

Sociedad won the first leg 3-1, with the winners set to face Barcelona.

The protest is expected to mean La Liga side Sociedad are awarded a place in the semi-finals of the Spanish competition.

Racing players released a joint statement on Monday announcing they would boycott the tie unless president Angel Lavin and his board stepped down.

The home side turned up and completed their warm-up but, after Sociedad kicked off, the Racing players stood arm in arm around the centre circle, with substitutes and coaching staff lining up in solidarity on the touchline.

Sociedad passed the ball between themselves in their own half for two minutes before kicking it out for a throw-in, at which point the referee signalled that the match was suspended.

Racing players say they have not been paid for several months.

I think there is support for your idea out there but as yet no one has been able to bring all those who have issue with RFC(IL) and the SFA under 1 banner. Morrisey has tried on this site to get people to support his scotsforchange idea on twitter as has henrik. The thing that lets this idea down though is that it is so anti Rangers it’s embarrassing, 1 of their aims is to get Sandy Bryson of the SFA to lose his job as they think he misrepresented the sfa at the Lord Nimmo inquirey.

This is pure and utter bullshit as for LNS and the improper registration, the SFA have no policy of fundamental annulity when it came to registrations. That caught me out, but I understand they do that to protect themselves from litigation at some future point. If you want to find an SPL precedent consider the following.

    Livi fined over Kachloul signing

Hassan Kachloul played eight games for Livingston

Dundee are to appeal the SPL’s decision to fine Livingston £15,000 for a breach of transfer regulations.

The SPL ruled that Livingston were wrong to register Hassan Kachloul as an amateur but decided the club gained no real advantage from the mistake.

Kachloul was entitled to sign on professional terms on his March arrival because he was unattached to a club.

Dundee are angry Livingston have not been docked points that may have saved them from relegation.

The Dens Park club, who finished two points behind Livi, have called the ruling as a “charter for cheats.” and say they will appeal against the decision to the Scottish Football Association.

Dunfermline and Dundee raised concerns after Kachloul arrived on an amateur contract, in a move designed to circumvent the transfer window regulations.

However, since the Moroccan midfielder was not leaving a club to join Livingston, there was no need for such an arrangement.

Kachloul played eight games for Livingston, including a nail-biting final day encounter against Dundee that ended 1-1.

An SPL statement said: “Livingston have been found to have been in breach of both of SFA Articles and registration procedures and the SPL Rules by registering Hassan Kachloul as an amateur player.

“But the Board identified that Hassan Kachloul would have been eligible to be registered as a professional player by Livingston on March 31, 2005 and to have played in league matches during the remainder of season 2004-05.

“As a consequence, Livingston secured no competitive advantage by having registered the player as an amateur, rather than as a professional, since the club would have been entitled, had due enquiry been made regarding Hassan Kachloul’s contractual history and his position under the rules of football, to have registered the player as a professional.

“For breach of the rules of the SPL, the board have severely censured Livingston FC, warned the club about their need to comply with those rules in the future, and fined the club £15,000.” Dundee have already threatened to go to the courts over the matter.

And the relegated club would seek to have former Livingston boss Richard Gough and players who have since left the club called as witnesses in any civil action.

Kachloul scored the goals that kept Livi up. Livi signed him as an amateur – but secretly paid him – because they thought they had missed the registration date for end-of-season signings.

I didnt know that about Livingston. Very interesting.

Anti rangers may be just a label though. Synonymous with anti corruption.

let me read up on it.

I was unaware of the Kachloul situation. So thanks for the info.

I can’t help thinking that Livi were extremely lucky to get away with that. They broke the rules, plain and simple.

They registered a player as an amateur-and then paid him, ffs!

Now,unbelievably, the SFA said that they were fine by that as they only did it in order to get round (i.e.break) a different rule, but they didn’t need to as that rule wouldn’t have applied in any case….

Words fail me. I wonder if anyone at the SFA suggested this as an option for the club, having received a call from a former Rangers captain?
