Year of the diddy teams stalking Celtic

332

One or two of us mocked another team for struggling against Second and Third division sides this season.  All good sporting fun but from the lofty heights of the Champions League knockout stages you need to make sure you can overcome a team who are treading water in the third tier of Scottish football.

Arbroath were good value for their draw at Celtic Park earlier this month.  It would be wrong to say their late equaliser was coming, as they never threatened during the previous 86 minutes, but they were thoroughly well organised and apart from a bizarre own goal would have reached the 87th minute on level terms.

The CQN Annual is 196 pages dripping with pure Celtic. You can order online here, a glossy joy for someone for Christmas!

Our eclectic collection of African, Mediterranean and metropolitan players will have little experience of the biting Arctic wind that will blow in off the Angus coast tonight, just a few yards from Gayfield Park, whereas the part-timers from Arbroath will be very much at home.  This, my friends in Celtic, is what they call the Romance of the Cup.

Don’t be comforted by the wins over Barca and Spartak, they guarantee nothing.  One more lacklustre performance and dreams of Celtic’s fourth treble will be kippered.  2012 has been the year of the little man, the “diddy teams”, as a wild Rover coined them in the summer.  There is one remaining superpower in our sport and every game they play is a cup final for someone.

Get Up for the Cup, Celtic.

You would be lucky to get a receipt here :>)

45 euros would be about twice what the same here would cost, in saying that, we wouldn’t get a vino as good as that :>)

There is a garage about 15k away from me, they do a menu del dia, beer or a bottle of wine included as well a coffee and as much bread as you want, 3 courses, it’s always full of truckers, and it’s superb, 4.95, the majority of places are well under a tenner, I know a bloke who eats there every day, he reckons it’s cheaper than going to the shops, and less hassle, he has his free tapas with his few drinks in the evening.

  3. So Strathclyde Police are allowing a demonstration over the flag issue to go ahead at George Square on Sat at 12 noon, while families who wished to take their children ice skating, look at the Xmas lights, have a spot of lunch, will have to abandon that idea because SP are too scared to declare the protest illegal?

Never knew the game was being televised tonight. Great a wee Celtic bonus. Hope we use the squad tonight. Mon the hoops.

  7. Ten Men, I’m not sure that the planned protest has been sanctioned by the Authorities, I wonder will Chuck be there handing out copies of his Prospectus.

  8. Good evening friends. Hopefully another midweek celebration. Same team as Saturday would do just fine for me.

BSR – liked your Fleetwood Mach gag!

  9. Whether the protest has been sanctioned or not, I posted over a year ago that the day would come when the troubles from the north would come to scotland, I just didn’t think it would be so soon.

  12. I’m certain the Bhoys will do more than enough to overcome Arbroath tonight, there will be no mistakes.

The next round of the cup should give us an opportunity to pay a visit to Turnbull Huttons team….. An ideal opportunity for us to turn up in numbers and thank him for his principled stance during the summer .

That man sided with the good guys and told everybody how it was.

A worthy recipient of the Green pound!

Bravo Turnbull , u were a credit to your team , the town of Kikcaldy and all right minded people.

    Hail Hail

  13. Jobo, the game has all the signs…

    Midweek, televised, under the lights.

    Completely agree.

I do not believe that Celtic would be STUPID enough to tell any man, let alone a republican Irishman, how he should conduct himself in his own neighbourhood.

That would not be MY CELTIC.

Celtic are giving Scotland’s sectarian press what they want to hear,…& what does Celtic no harm.

    God Bless Celtic.

    God Bless Anthony Stokes.

There are daily flights from Stansted to Turin with Ryanair!

Lot closer than flying to Milan.

    HH!!

  16. On Anthony Stokes….. My understanding is that this chap was a long term friend of the Stokes family and that Anthony has known him since childhood.

Can it be so wrong to attend the funeral of someone u have grown up with ?

An entirely different situation to Englishman Goram entirely!

No-one should traduce the ole Coatbridge Baffs! That was the scene of my first length underwater under the tutelage of Bill “Big Doc” Docherty. Who was most….well, persuasive. I’m sure he told me his father used to manage the boiler.

Shame The Baffs are no longer there.

I hope Thomas gets a game tonight. It would be a real shame to lose him. He needs games. The CL squad should be rested

  19. Burghbhoy, not a life long friend but Ryan was a customer at The Players Lounge bar which was owned by Stoke’s father. They became very friendly and my understanding is the function that Stokes attended was a fund raiser for the widow & children of Ryan and not a Real IRA Function albeit that members of The Real IRA were in attendance.

  20. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Newsflash: Anthony Stokes has been punished by Celtic. He is being made to attend the players kids Christmas party without any Aspirin

  21. Awe Naw, I’d expect a very strong team tonight, close enough to the team that played Killie. I’d expect the same formation but maybe Watt in instead of Lassad.
