Building Leigh Griffiths

324

I doubt even Leigh Griffiths’ dad thought he had this kind of form in him when he signed for Celtic in January last year. The then 23-year-old had ‘squad filler’ written all over him as he waited in line behind Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes. The arrival of John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic a year ago could have limited Leigh’s chances further, but neither showed enough form to make the striker position their own.

Prospects looked bleak last season. Two starts before Christmas, Leigh spent time with the youths and looked to be heading out of the club in January, but with the manager’s mind increasingly made up on Guidetti and Scepovic, he got his chance. The transformation has been remarkable. His goals return compares to the best in the modern era, but it’s the type of goals he scores which has caught the attention most.

He’s fast, skilful, can out-jump central defenders and scores goals in big games. Should Celtic choose to play with Carlton Cole as a target man, Leigh will also be able to play to his left.

Whatever Ronny Deila achieves this season, the improvement in Leigh Griffiths will feature high up the list.  Leigh’s attitude to self-improvement is also worth noting.

  2. Good morning friends.

I’m afraid to say that East Kilbride is currently shrouded in a dense thick fog so I have absolutely no idea what the current weather situation is.

    2 more sleeps though…

  3. The fog has dissipated enough for me to see a clear blue sky and hardly a breath of wind.

Time to head to my other job now…

  4. Morning all.

Looks like it could be a good day. Has to be better than yesterday when we saw the sun down here for about 10 seconds as it set.

How is the mood on here? Should be good, I would have thought.

  5. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

MIKE Ashley has launched a legal move to have Dave King thrown in jail. “where he belongs”.reports of him wanting OSCAR’S old cell in SOUTH AFRICA have yet to be confirmed.sorry did I say confirmed ??make that protested.

It was reported last night [Mon] that the Sports Direct boss has gone to court accusing King of breaching a gagging order forced on the Ibrox boss by his sportswear firm.

It comes days after King criticised Ashley’s business credentials and said he will hold Sports Direct accountable on behalf of Rangers fans.

awe naw eat yir heart oot.

    King criticised Ashley’s business credentials?

    Ffs,that is a belter.

He might be able to criticise him for his business morals, which is slightly different, but it takes some going for a convicted fraudster to have a pop at a self-made billionaire.

I’m on an iphone 5 and was completely unable to fight past the pop ups to get to the site from Saturday till now.

But now it seems all clear. Like clear skies after a storm. Just as well as I’d hate to be stuck outside if the jelly m ice cream gets dished up soon!

    Thanks WC

  9. Jamesgang, I hope you were holding your head up high and weren’t afraid of the dark:-)

All well on my iPad and iPhone 5s, the intrusive pop ups have gone, dissipated like Jobo’s fog.

    All seems well.

One grey cloud on the horizon, I’ll be in Wimbledon for Thursday, usually a trip to the Wimbledons CSC would solve that problem, but alas not this time. Meeting at 6pm.

    When’s kick off?

    Boooooooooo.

So…..whit happens on Thursday…if we win great….if we lose is that us oot of Europe after December?

Would that provide us trouble makers with the grounds to demand Ronny’s removal?

Or, do we fall into line and kowtow?

Keep saying yer prayers for wee LG to avoid injury…..coz, if he gets injured….Hertz will win the league:)

  16. Why can’t the minority of barrack-room lawyers and mischief – makers, who like to hear the sound of their own voices, with their fingers in their ears, lay off the lies and bad publicity that they are spreading, over their latest hobby-horse of the ‘living wage’ at Celtic Park.

96% of employees are happy with their wages and conditions – so now is the time to shut up and look for other things to protest about in Scotland – here are a few suggestions:

    FAILING POLICE

    FAILING NHS

    FAILING SCHOOLS

These services are the very backbone of our lives and are being mismanaged to an unbelievable degree, so much so that it may take till TWENTY THOUSAND AND SIXTEEN to fix them.

To the amateur “Trust” and it’s hanger-ons, I say, take your heads out of your ***holes.

  17. My friends in Celtic,

I really hope we get a respectable crowd on Thursday. It’s not Celtic’s fault, but a five past six kick off really does exclude many.

    HH.

  18. Is predictive text really to make messaging easier and more efficient or is it just a means of making us look really silly.

It is certainly not an autocorrect.

I know, I know some of us don’t need any assistance to appear thick. It comes naturally.

  19. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

    Greenpinata

Just checked the stadium map. Looks like there will be over 40,000. Some on here might not rate that but it is still a decent crowd for a 6:05 KO on a Thursday.

Incidentally, if those who tell us the crowds are dwindling by the game were accurate, we could expect around 10,000 for our next Home game! I get the feeling those posters WANT the crowds to decrease as it would support their anti- Board arguments. Anyway, have Celtic supporters not ALWAYS been anti – every form of Authority? 0:-)

Fog lifting so cheerio for now,

To be honest,I’m anti-board. You might have noticed.

And I’m delighted and proud to see large attendances. I’ve never advocated boycotts, sponsor boycotts, etc.

I think most of us are like that-we want the best for our club,so why damage it while trying to change things?

    It’s a difficult one,but damaging the club is a non-starter for me.

  22. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Morning Bhoys from a very foggy Central Scotland be careful if your out and about.I have been thinking about the Molde game and would say in the past we would have expected to beat a team like them at home. The fact that we are now not sure and many would accept a draw as a good result may tell us just how far Celtics European standards have fallen Ronny needs time if we are to improve in Europe improving doesnt mean winning the European competitions for me it just means giving a good account of ourselves in every game we play. H.H.

  23. Bigshuggy

Just read your post from the other night/day about the Rugby.

I’d just like to say that I’m delighted that both you and the Might All Blacks profited from the Sporting Gods deciding to lay off the mischief, and allow Sporting excellence to be fittingly rewarded on Saturday, though for 10 minutes it looked like they might have been about to open their box of tricks!

Still, Big Mhan, if you’d lost betting on a team who’ve only experienced defeat 3 times in the last four years, and only once in their last 19 World Cup matches, ye’dve been as well chuckin’ it, eh?

    Hail! Hail!

  24. A mate of mine at Deloitte (very professional guy) refused to entertain my questions around the future for sevco early this year when all the Going Concern qualifications were made and re-made. Fair play to him, and that was the right thing to do.

Then we played golf a few months ago in a corporate thing (I often mange to sponge along to these things and anyone who needs a late entrant to make up a 4 ball at a nice course can call me on 077….) and we had a great day. Said cheerio and as I was getting into my car he said with a smile ‘Mike Ashley’s having the time of his life by the way’.

The cat comment above reminded me of that.
