Celtic income down 21% after drop from Champions League

747

Celtic’s turnover slipped 21.1% last season to £51.08m (2014: £64.74m), almost wholly explained by the drop from Champions League to Europa League competition. Operating expenses dropped by a smaller amount to £53.27m; higher than income, but by a very manageable amount.

The club’s cash position at 30 June 2015 was a positive £4.72m, although this figure will stray into negative territory during the season. Net exceptional costs were down to £740k, considerably less than the £4.089m paid out a year earlier, when the management team moved on.

Profit on the sale of intangible assets (football players) was £6.773m, down considerably from the £17.052m from the previous season, and a bit of a surprise given the expected impact of Fraser Forster’s sale to Southampton. It’s possible that Newcastle United received a dividend from the Forster sale. Total loss for the year, after interest, disposals and acquisitions, was £3.947m.

“Investment in football personnel” was up slightly to £9.42m, the amortisation charge for the year was £7.313m.

It’s clear that Celtic can continue to operate at current levels but the impact of Champions League revenue on all aspects of the club remains stark.

On the club’s wider place in society, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, noted:

“Charity forms a fundamental aspect of the club that we aspire to create. Charity lies at the very heart of Celtic; it is part of our DNA.

“I am delighted to say that the Club and its supporters does more now than we ever have done for charitable purposes, most notably Celtic FC Foundation, which continues to grow from strength to strength and to inspire all those involved with it.

“The continued commitment of our supporters, shareholders and partners is crucial; I thank you for that commitment, which we will do all that we can to repay.”

  6. At last……Its CELTIC time again!! :)

Been looking forward to today even more than normal.

Pittodrie is always a stand out fixture and after winning all our games v the sheep last season it has made it even more spicy.

Funny how that has worked out…..IF Aberdeen had won any of those games, would there be a bit less simmering going on?

Its going on though and like any away day…..we will need to be up for this and be prepared to fight for anything and everything.

Can see it being a cracker!

A new defensive line up for ourselves?

Will any of our new signings make their debut or will we see something like this……

    Lustig…….Boyatta……Mulgrew…..Izzy?

Perhaps a domestic debut for Chiftci?

    Going to be interesting!

Aberdeen have done well so far to only concede 1 goal in the league in 5 games so once again they look like being a tough team to beat, but i reckon we will be adding a few more to that tally.

How solid can we be at the back though?

Can see it being something like 2-2 or 2-3.

    Excited!!!!

    Woooooohoooooo!!!!

haven’t read back much but I see Leigh Has been admonished in court on the Rudi Skacell after offering a profuse apology leaving him only facing three charges from the RFA about disrepute and other more made up rules to snag the unwary Celt.

Not excusing LGs behaviour but Nae doots they’ll throw the kitchen sink at it and he’ll get a three match ban.

    Big game today

Wouldn’t fancy losing this game esp if Aberdeen win their game in hand

Going five points behind with our inexperienced defence could be difficult

Big decisions for RD in defence …hope he gets it right

  10. Wee reminder.

Any shareholders attending today’s game, we’ll be collecting signatures to get the Living Wage issue on the agenda for the AGM at the exit to the bus park.

    C’mon the Celtic.

  11. for all our fans making the journey safe trip there and back, always loved pittodrie, easily my favourite away game as a bhoy, although the bam pots wasted it by taking “our” beach/beech end !

Celticrollercoaster can you explain two things then my friend?

Why did Paul say it was due to the management team leaving ( a wee slip of the tongue I think)?

Why wasn’t it included under amortisation then? Or what is extra amortisation?

    ——–

Neg good morning. Not got a lot of time as off with Mrs CRC to Much Hadham to a music festival called Glanfest.

Paul’s sentence can be misleadingly read. Perhaps badly written or maybe not.

It was shown as amortisation, but shown on a separate line as additional impairment.

I will run through in more detail tomorrow night when I am back

    Catch up with you soon.

Not sure who is fit …no idea what type of player Simunovic is …RD will know the answer to these questions …

If all are fit and Simunovic is as good as his price tag ( whatever that may be) then

    Lustig ..Boyata …Simunovic … Izzy

  15. Good luck to the Celts today, especially the travelling fans…used to travel the length and breadth of the country to see and support our beloved team all during the 70’s / 80’s / 90’s and half the 00’s….till Martin O’Neill had to leave and, took all the Celticness with him….imho.

I still think that RD hisny got it…he’ll easily win the one horse race SPFL…but, for me…he’s in the wrong movie…another puppet manager planted to asset-strip and kidd-the -fans-on….that should be stopped but, apathy will ensure the status-quo.

DD / PL / all the other faceless wonders who constitute the Celtic PLC/Board….are living in a fools paradise….they should have been chased out of town when they prostituted the stadium that the Celtic fans built for, a nice little earner from the Common Wealth Games Pish and, it could be levelled at them that…their greed has cost the club 2 years CL-Money-Pot?….how many heads have rolled for that?…No heads have rolled coz…Celtic PLC / FC is an institution which could be described as a Rudderless Ship or, a Rudderless Ship in freefall if….they are drawn against Warburtons huns in any Cup Competition….can you imagine Celtic being drawn v’s the huns if…LG was injured?

So…a, Rudderless Ship crying out for jolt to shake it from it’s slumber….bring on the jolt and, give the keys of the club to Jeanette Findlay..the female version of, Jeremy Corbyn…an absolute dream leader of Celtic Football Club…imho

At the minute….Johnny Collins should be in charge of the team.

A Celtic team marching onto the pitch…puffing out their six-packs…instilled with the Johnny Collins-scared-of-nobody-Celtic-Spirit and, the Johnny Collins class on the pitch which made him thee star attraction on the pitch in the early 90’s…till the arrival of Henrik.

Johnny Collins was thee star attraction coz…the Maestro was ‘done’ through having to tow a caravan called Peter Grant for over a decade…imho.

I hope that LG disny get injured – CSC

    Going Off oot…..YNWA.

  16. Kev

    Keep at it

For the record….is this the same Johnny Collins who done a bosman because we didn’t stop 9, you may be correct with your assertions about Ronny but it’s easy to pick faults in a “one horse race” the very people who use this term never used in the 80s/90s when you and many others were “enjoying” a puppet show, it was more of a fix then than now

    EXSLAEMUIRBHOY on 11TH SEPTEMBER 2015 8:07 PM

Beginning to wonder about this site, may have been corrupted by to many people for my liking.

I have taken great pleasure and some pain following Celtic but on the whole an absolute pleasure ,consumed my life for 20years of the last 40 but I’ve mellowed allegedly. Everyone is entitled to an opinion of course but some of it on here is way over the top.

If you don’t get any pleasure from Celtic, jog on and find a new pass time. Life is to short.

    ******************************

Morning tims, just logged on and seen the above post, now I haven’t had a read back yet, but if you substitute the 20 for 30 and the 40 for 50, then I agree with every word.

Well said EXSLAEMUIRBHOY , the odd fud now and again was a laugh, but like rats seems as though they are breeding and it feels (sometimes ) like a anti Celtic site, I don’t think its all huns either, I get a feeling that fans from other Celtic sites come on here to have a dig at Peter and Paul and cause discourse.

Anyway to all you lot heading to our game today, sing well sing loud and sing proud.

  18. Kevjungle,

LG will cop a ban for the singing. Probably 3 game plus 3 suspended. So would miss any Sevco cup game

However all is not lost the striker Lawwell bought during the last days of the transfer window will save the day.

  19. Kevj,

nice to see you posting…..a luv waffle wae ma breakfast…..how can u say RD is a puppet? Hasn’t he done more than any other Celtic Manager…..in the very short time he’s been here to get his own players in, establish a very good philosophy that encourages youth…..ach probably shouting into a tornado…..;-))

My post read back like I was agreeing with your assertions about Ronny, for the record, I am definitely in the Ronny camp for better or worse

As for Peter Grant, he might not be every fans favourite, but yet again it’s easy to pick holes, Peter was a very good footballer and servant to our club, in his younger years he was head and shoulders above any footballer in the Lanarkshire area, but don’t let facts get in the way of opinion

Take care and delighted to have your views back, for every GFTB happy clapper we need a KevJungle

Very important, and tricky, game today.

No idea what team RD will put out, but we’ll find out soon enough.

2-1 to the Hoops is my prediction.

Game sold out I believe. Armageddon?

Safe there and back to all those going.

Tosh McKinlay labelled Simunovic a ‘Rolls Royce’ of a player and gave a very positive opinion of his abilities so if he is as good as many believe him to be then id imagine he will start.

It may have been better if he had a bit more time to get to know his team mates and was not making his debut in what may be our hardest domestic match of the season but hey ho……get him playing asap and get this defence game time.

  26. So, which is it? Should we have spent money, be a champions league team (not guaranteed) and therefore by definition skoosh the league winning every game by a five goal margin? Or should we give ourselves the best chance we can of CL qualification within the financial constraints of our environment and therefore have the level of team which means there are no foregone conclusions in the league ?

I’m happy with the latter. I like my league games to be competetive. Europe is a bonus.
