  1. Morning all.

Wild, wet and very very windy down here.

We are a Scottish team and so, imo, we have to respect what Scotland sees as important. A minute’s silence should not be beyond anyone who supports Celtic, especially as many of our supporters (and family members) are being remembered.

    Kevj,

My condolences at the loss of Mrs Duddy. May she rest in peace.

Some cracking winners there this week-sadly,mine isn’t one of them!

I can’t remember the competition having such a surplus to a £1 stake before.

    Well done,lads.

  6. Macjay

    U made out there was

Why would people on here think it’s ok to disturb a 1916 commemoration ? Why even ask a stupid question.

Remembering the murdering British army isn’t something I would do nor would I disrupt those who wish to. The Fault should be laid at door of the SFA and uefa.

This is not keeping politics out of football.

Nothing more to say on subject. Most People know how the Brits behaved in the countries they occupied.

If my Mum was subjected to so many bliddy adverts for John Lewis,it wouldn’t be her favourite shop anymore.

Every time I post or refresh the page,John bliddy Lewis!

  8. I think it is very sad that Remembrance Day has been hijacked by the criminals and cretins at the dead clubs voice over the daily retard. They use what should be a day if reflection for whatever point of opinion you have to get at Celtic as if their zombie club is still in the picture. I have played with the local pipe band at many dawn parades, marched with the old proud veterans. They fought for freedom, freedom of speech and thought. Hate the way this is now abused by the gutter press. They are a depraved disparate breed.

Also sick of the British governments and British army wee cheerleader on here. Sneeky comments all the time , Coward if ever I seen one.

    ==========================================================

So it would be perfectly reasonable, for the avoidance of double standards and in the interests of freedom of speech for one to be:

sick of the Irish governments (sic) and Irish army wee cheerleader on here.

    That would be only fair.

    Wouldn`t it?

Or maybe it would cause offence.

    Bit early for Godwin’s Law,innit?

What have the Nazis got to do with Ireland?

If the Nazis have any place at all in this discussion,it’s in their advancement of totalitarian no-dissent propaganda.

‘Observe the silence and wear a poppy’ would have been right up their street.

FWIW,I would have observed the silence,as always. But others disagree with having it foisted on them at unrelated events. They have a right to their disapproval.

  15. Kev J – take extra special care of the family in following days/weeks, Mrs Duddy has passed on the baton

May Mrs Duddy Rest in Peace and let perpetual light shine upon her

  16. Kevj thoughts and prayers for you and your wife and family today mate.

Nazis? Those who fought against them are commemorated on poppy day.

Wear the poppy or don`t. None of my business.

    Poppy fascism is obscene. Agreed.

The question I asked originally was how would those who wish to commemorate 1916 feel if disrespect was shown to their commemoration?

Perfectly reasonable question I would have thought.

If anyone over in Ireland for the commemoration wishes to voice their disapproval during a football match, they have my full support.

It’s a free country. Dissent is tolerated, even encouraged.

After all,the 1916 Rising was far from universally popular in Ireland. It was only British heavy-handedness with the severity of the punishments that swung opinion.

    Because,in 1916 Ireland,dissent was not tolerated. And 100 years later,in Scotland,it still isn’t.

I agree with all of that.

Although the location of the dissent should be irrelevant.

It`s just a matter of “How would you like it if………”

    That`s all.

  26. Remembrance Day parades were routinely disrupted by ex-squaddies all through the 1920s, in protest at their treatment by UK governments after WW1. The universal respect that we’re supposed to show hasn’t always been there. And looking at the situation around the country, it’s clear that dead ex-servicemen get more respect from the British Establishment than living ones do.

    Hail Hail,

    KevinBhoy.

  29. So sad what has happened to Remembrance Sunday. used to be a sombre day of quiet reflection. Now it’s a political football.

I’ve no sympathy for those who disrupt the minutes’ silence. Their attitude is typical of the selfish, childish, look-at-me streak that seems to dominate our politics today. The insistence that your voice must be heard, no matter the circumstances and the effects on the feelings of others – many of whom are elderly and have spent a lifetime in mourning.

Similarly, the Daily Mail’s “why is Corbyn’s poppy upside down?” approach is vile. A sinister, authoritarian politicisation of remembrance.

And the annual jamboree on the pitch at Ibrox is breath-taking in its inappropriateness and utter hypocrisy. What on earth are the Forces are thinking of participating in this horrific display of bawdy triumphalism – on a day when dignified silence and reflection is surely the right tone?

What a shame we can no longer come together to reflect on the horrors of war in silence.
