Coordination and confidence

Wee Oscar’s dad, Knoxy, asked me to relay this message to you……

“The BIG cycle to Belfast… WOW! What an absolutely incredible effort by so so many people all to raise money for our wee hero, and a great night was had by all on Saturday night up at Donegal Celtic. It is very very humbling and I really felt that my thanks conveyed to them all on Saturday night was just not enough. I know they didn’t do it for thanks or for a pat on the back but I really hope they know that both me and Leona are deeply deeply moved by what they have done.

Over the last 9 months we have thanked many hundreds of people for all sorts of different things they have done for Oscar and I’m sure after a while the thanking almost comes across a bit ‘rehearsed’ and maybe a bit insincere but we just want to make sure they all know how thankful we are to them and to the amazing people who have donated to such a whopping total!”

Fantastic work by all, very well done.

Celtic have conceded 16 goals in the 9 games since Efe Ambrose’ much debated return to the team which faced Juventus last month, a period which saw them eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup, while losing to Motherwell and Ross County.

They conceded 16 goals in the previous 24 games, including two Champions League games against Barcelona, one against Benfica and one against Spartak Moscow.  A problem which initially appeared to be limited to Efe, has clearly affected others, including Kelvin Wilson and even the goalkeeper looks less assured than before.

More than any other facet of football, defending is dependent on confidence and teamwork.  If communication is poor, you make mistakes.  If you expect teammates to make mistakes, you’ll make decisions accordingly.  If your decisions reflect a lack of confidence, you’re on a slippery slope to losing goals.  Bad defenders look good in good teams but good defenders look hopeless once order is disturbed.

Only just catching up with the antics on Gallowgate on Saturday.  Not read about the destruction of property or occasions of assault, which I assume preceded the mass arrests.  Surely?  I’m not sure if Alex Salmond has renewed the high levels of police funding for football-related activity, which was initially due to expire at the end of this month, but for someone who is usually so politically savvy, he seems to have set off on a road without checking consequences of the legal questions.

A bit like his major project…..

Where we are today is a consequence of the First Minister’s initiatives in 2011, and is why Celtic fans, the Club, and many others, opposed the initiative at the time.  It’s playing out pretty much as everyone with an interest in football expected.  Mr Salmond’s Scotland is looking a bit like Mrs Thatcher’s Yorkshire, circa 1984.

You’re as well blaming the inclement weather as blaming the police or anyone in the game, the police, like the weather, do what they do. This is the work of the Other Charlotte Square Bogeyman.

    Over the past few weeks and months the treatment of the Celtic support by Strathclydes finest and the clubs response to this has been the number one item on the agenda of most supporters when discussing current matters regarding the club.

    I would urge everyone to listen in at around the 2 hour mark where a poster by the name of “Glasgow Road” on the Celtic timternet, comes on and gives a firsthand account of the shenanigans going on behind the scenes at Celtic Park and the discussions between Peter Lawell and other club officials and the various supporters groups.

    Glasgow Road is not a regular on CQN he is a KDS bhoy, i have had the pleasure of attending games with him for over 20 years and i have known him for longer, he is a top bhoy and has been much conflicted over the past few weeks regarding the situation.

    I have been aware of the information he talks about for a while and have seen the arguments on here regarding the board’s alleged collusion with the police and i have purposely stayed away from commenting, it was not my place to do so and it wouldn’t have helped anyway.

    There is no agenda at play here by Glasgow Road in exposing in what’s going on, he has already resigned from the committee of the Affiliation of Celtic Supporters over the issue, the agenda is to get the truth out there and let the wider support know some of the facts of what’s going on.

    The time for standing by and doing nothing after Saturdays Police operation has gone the debate is moving on rapidly, the club had better prepare for a major backlash if they sit back and do nothing, i won’t say much more, i will let Glasgow Road say it at 120 mins;

    Patmadug, naive! take a look in the mirror Mr paranoid. For weeks the SDL along with EDL said they were going to lay a wreath in Pollokshields. Opposing this were the anti-fascists and the local asian community. Comprende so far? So I put it to you.. On paper where do you think the danger lays? Pollokshields or GB. The fact that the SDL demo fizzled out on the day is neither here nor there.

If you would like to see it at first hand why not get a little bit closer to where its all going on, it isnt exactly subtle intimidation, it is very obvious.

    some bad ones…

    1) above inflation increases in the tv licence

    2) underspend in council housing

    3) privatisation of council housing

    4) privatisation of the nhs hospitals

    5) 9.3 billion for london 2012, 6.9 billion above the estimated cost

    6) primary and secondary school closures

    7) dogmatic attempts to close local facilities e.g. govanhill pool

    8) 7 wars in 6 years up to and including iraq making britain a target for terrorists

    ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Taking your points one at a time,bearing in mind that your original point was wrt what Labour did for the poorer sections of society.
    7-I wiil grant you,it did no-one any good. Totally misguided. At best.
    6-local government,and I don’t know the details tbh.
    5-A necessary regeneration of a really deprived area of inner-city London which has given the area back a sense of pride and of community. If you doubt that there are poor areas in London,take a visit,or check the stats.
    4-A policy which was inherited and watered down to include mainly ancillary workers. Another few years of the tories would have seen taxis being used instead of ambulances.
    3-Not great,but most council stock that has been transferred has gone to Housing Associations. Voted for by the tenants,btw.
    2-The decision was taken to include social housing availability on new private developments in order that social tenants were not marginalised. Where would you prefer to live-a nice new estate,or a scheme? Integration and a chance at upward mobility.
    1-My TV license is approximately 10% of what I was paying for Sky before I stopped it. Less than the price of a pint every week. Mind,my telly works fine without it…….
    In summary,Labour 1997-2010 WAS less than we hoped for,but they had a wreck to rebuild. No investment in infrastructure for a generation,and much of that generation thrown on the scrapheap.
    I won’t give them a gold star for their efforts,but I’ll certainly give them PASSPLUS,and thank God we didn’t face the alternative.
  14. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on
    So Rebelbhoy, no facts to back up the comment. Fair enough. If I am getting you right the Celtic board and the Rangers supporting, Strathclyde Polis are in cahoots to wipe out the GB. Strange bedfellows?
    Art of War, take it you are of the same opinion as Dug that the true blue polis and Celtic board members are allied against the GB. Tell me, were the toilet wreckers not arrested at a later date? Do both clubs not have a reciprocal agreement to pay for damage caused by their fans? What possible outcome would have occurred if the 2 polis had intervened with the drunken horde to save a lavvy ceiling? Would you have intervened in their shoes?
    A gathering of fans which would walk to the football along with thousands of others also walking the same road to the football. Hows that breaking the law?
    All marches and demos are approached in an individual fashion.
    I repeat I am not agreeing with the police action on Saturday but lets not tar an entire workforce by the actions of a minority. someone even compared the policing to the Nazis. Listen pal, if they had been the Nazis none would be breathing this afternoon. Try not to get too excited.
    The only people who can tell you the whys and wherefores about Saturday are the guys who called the shots.Let see if the truth comes out.
    But take a step back and read some of these comments made on here. PL and Celtic v the GB. The entire Strathclyde Police force are card carrying Rangers supporting full-blown Nazis..etc etc.
    Oh and dont hold an opposing view point or we will call you a polis sympathiser or a hun.
  25. Re the toilet smashing the 2 plods could have called for help and had 20 plods there in seconds.
  26. Having watched some of the videos from Saturday I am astounded that any Celtic supporter can make a case that is remotely supportive of the disgraceful antics of Strathclyde Police.
    The club are being disingenuous here in saying nothing or hiding behind the fact that these incidents did not take place in or around the stadium. So let them answer two simple questions that should be simple, even for Lawwell to do.
    1) will all or any of the arrested lasts be subject of a ban prior to going to trial? ( innocent until proved guilty I believe)
    2) were the club happy with the positioning of three police wagons immediately outside 111 at the end of the game?
    I suspect Celtic will not say publicly but if the SB for even one of these lads is cancelled for the Hibs game the PLC, in my view, will be insulting ALL of our fans and will be no longer worthy of our support.
    SB not being renewed next year and may even consider selling the family silver, my Celtic shares, because in some way they are becoming worthless rather than a treasure and that is so very,very sad.
  27. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate
