One of today’s newspapers did its very best to run with a one’s as bad as the other’ suggestion, saying : “Yes, both sides have justifiable grievances. Celtic were rightly outraged at the state their stadium was left in. Likewise, the Rangers board were understandably disgusted at those mock executions of blow-up dolls draped in red, white and blue scarves.”
This is wholly misrepresenting the situation. Celtic were rightly outraged at the blow-up dolls, criticised the actions at the time while endorsing the behaviour of the fabled “vast majority”. Celtic don’t have a problem with self-analysis; they’ve done it often enough in recent seasons in the face of Uefa fines.
The blow-up doll incident, and the faux defence of it, which Celtic didn’t offer, has nothing whatsoever to do with who pays for tens of thousands of pounds worth of vandalism carried out by visiting fans at Celtic Park. You can make your own suggestions as to why it was raised in connection with the subject.
The article goes on to offer up evidence of the bigger story, which it somehow manages to miss.
“Rangers (sic.) believe they have every right to take the hump because Celtic have chosen to ignore years of protocol – an unwritten rule which has stood the test of time, whereby each club pays for damage done to its own stadium by opposing fans on derby day.”
Maybe, maybe not, but here’s the thing, whatever unwritten rules Celtic and Rangers observed died in 2012.
You want unwritten rules to persist? Pay your taxes, register your players correctly, make full and honest submissions to HMRC inquiries instead of shredding correspondence. Play by the rules everyone else has to play by.
Cheat, lie, hide and shred and you have no defence in written rules, never mind unwritten objects of your imagination. This reality should now be writ large for all to understand.
After the 1909 Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Rangers ended suspiciously in a draw, one astute observer noted that the clubs were acting in concert, like an Old Firm, in order to generate gate receipts from a replay.
With the permission of Oldco’s administrators, Newco were able to change their name to “Rangers”, but that act of an administrator cut no ice at Celtic Park, or most other Scottish grounds.
There is no Old Firm, it died in 2012. Celtic don’t use the phrase, they don’t observe unwritten rules they had in place with Rangers, they don’t want their stadium trashed, they don’t want to install “prison grade” facilities for visiting fans (this is what’s now required in Scotland in 2017, good grief!), they would happily never host the club again.
If you think all that happened in 2012 was a “relegation” (which you’d earlier reported was impossible), this might be news to you. It was more than this; it was the end of the old ways – and good riddance to them.
Celtic will stand of fall on our own merits. We will observe the laws and rules of the land, the tax authorities, the Association, Uefa and Fifa (even if it means criticising our own fans). If you’re looking for unwritten favours after vandalising our property: tough.
And for those who continually see O.F. conspiracies, none of them have ever been able to tell me a business case for Celtic to put life into that concept. It’s not good for business, no matter what the wildest conspiracy theorist might tell you. Anyone who tells you it is needs to take a look at himself.

I am a long time lurker and very rare poster. I would be grateful for a bit of info. My sister was very kind to buy my baby son a personalised brick at Celtic Park. It is on ‘Billy McNeill Wall 2′. Is it possible to get access to these walls on non-match days. I would like to get my wife and son along to see it when it is quiet and suits us. However, I have noticed fences erected that may secure our stadium on non-match days. Any info would be great. Many thanks. Hail Hail from Motherwell.

Sad but true that many on here have had to explain to others what really happened to the original Rangers.
We can rail against disgraceful reporting,circumvention of Company Law and of football regulations,the whole gamut.
But perception becomes reality when the truth is airbrushed. Hardly anyone outside Scotland knows why Rangers were “relegated.” Even fewer care.
And speaking of perception,there’s a fair few Tims 100% sure that the board couldnae wait to see them back again.

Rangers are a fantastic club with a great history. They will, in not too long a time, be back in the SPL. I have no doubt about that.

Celtic have enraged fans with their pricing policy for any games against Rangers next season.
In renewal letters sent to season ticket holders this week, the club informed fans that there will be no concession tickets on sale for games against their city rivals if they meet in the cup competitions or are promoted to the top flight.
Offering Under-13 season tickets for £50, 13-16 tickets for £105 and books for 17-18-year-olds priced £186, the letter states: “U13, 13-16 and 17-18 season tickets are valid for (a) all home SPFL matches excluding any matches against Rangers FC and (b) 2 other home matches as nominated by the club (a minimum of 19 matches and a maximum of 21 matches).
“U13, 13-16 and 17-18 season tickets are not valid for any home SPFL matches against Rangers FC, but holders will have the opportunity to purchase a full price match ticket for entry to the stadium for any such match(es).
“Purchase of a ticket for such match(es) does not guarantee the holder the use of the holder’s normal seat.
“Concession rates (including child rates) do not apply for any matches against Rangers FC.”

A reprehensible article from a dreadful journalist – the attempt to conflate the dolls with Sevco’s non-payment is truly risible.
However, if the term “Old Firm” really is dead to Celtic, then it’d be really nice to hear the club say that. This would mean not recognising the fiction that the current club from Ibrox have 54 titles, were founded in 1872 etc etc.
But all we have had is silence. Celtic’s directors may well be angry at this report. But, in a sense, they have made a rod for thier own backs by -apparently -buying into the “continuity” myth.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is with his SPL counterpart Neil Doncaster in London as discussions continue over TV contracts.
Aberdeen’s Duncan Fraser and Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron are also members of a “steering group” set up to renegotiate with commercial and broadcast partners. It is not known if the pair are also down south.
Talks over Sky’s continued involvement in the Scottish top flight have been held over the previous few weeks, following Rangers’ failure to be readmitted into the SPL as a new company.
Doncaster had warned clubs in the Scottish Football League that TV deals with Sky, ESPN and SPORTFIVE stood to collapse if Rangers were not then voted into the First Division, wiping £17.7m out of the game to be replaced with a new deal worth £3m a year.
That threat has so far failed to transpire since the Ibrox club were admitted to the Third Division, with talks continuing over the contract ahead of Sky broadcasting SPL fixtures on the opening day of the season on Saturday, August 4.
A statement from the SPL to STV read: “At the last General Meeting, the SPL clubs appointed a Steering Group to lead discussions with broadcasters and others commercial partners.
“The Steering Group comprises Neil Doncaster (SPL CEO), Duncan Fraser (Aberdeen FC CEO), Peter Lawwell (Celtic FC CEO) and Kenny Cameron (Inverness Caledonian Thistle Chairman).
“Discussions in London between members of the Steering Group and the SPL’s commercial and broadcast partners continued today and remain ongoing.”
On Friday, it was announced the SPL had agreed a deal to purchase rights to include Rangers’ SFL matches in any package negotiated with broadcasters.
Chief executive Doncaster said at the time: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the parties concerned. Discussions will now continue with our broadcast partners and we expect to be in a position to make a further announcement next week on broadcasting rights.”

Celtic fans have expressed their outrage at being forced to pay up to £49 for an adult ticket to next month’s first Old Firm clash at Parkhead in four years. The first league match in four years between the sides is sure to sell out, though supporters are unhappy the club are taking advantage of the hype surrounding the fixture to charge so much. My daughter bought me a brick on the same wall as a Christmas present from my grandson.
We went to Celtic Park on 2nd January to see it, unfortunately it wasn’t up.
When we enquired in the superstore we were told it could take up to 10 weeks, initially my daughter was told it would be up in 10 days.
You can get access to see your brick on non match days, although I would wait till maybe middle Feb.
It’ll be worth the wait.

Not sure if this has been discussed on here… but plans are afoot to restrict access by car to Celtic games from August.
If this comes to pass it’ll be a nightmare for those of us attending with very young or very old supporters…
