20th century football rivalries won’t survive

1358

I remember the days (as a kid) when I’d get excited about Scotland-England games. At the time the countries were neck-and-neck in the number of wins each had over the other, we knew we’d punched well above our weight for a century. Since then, the inevitable verdict of demographics has taken its toll.

Now we know we’re a small nation, inconsequential to the football world, and we’ve even starved of developmental resources compared to the riches that ploughs into the English FA from Premier League TV deals each season.

The historical rivalry remains but I don’t feel it anymore and surely English fans care even less. They will have to dig deep to muster anything more than an interest in the three points available tonight, having long since moved onto Argentina and Germany for their rivalry. And Iceland, of course (forgive me).

Great sporting rivalries can endure for generations but that doesn’t mean they’ll last forever. Circumstances can change causing both sides to lose interest and find others to do battle with. None of our 20th century rivalries will survive. If we could bloody the nose of Barcelona for a third time in the 21st century later this month, our hit rate would place the Catalans in the crosshairs.  Bring it on.

Re Kenny,I just wish he’d stayed a year longer. Not his fault all the injuries the following season, but he knew Jock had been weakened by his accident and the loss of some truly marvellous players in the preceding three years.

How do you replace the likes of Hay,Connelly,Murray,Johnstone?

    Hood Glavin and Deans?

    Cesar.

I might have missed one or two out.

He got 15% of the money. John Dowse who,and a journeyman forward who turned out to be a rather decent centre-half.

Heyho. Regardless,he was a favourite of mine. With Celtic,Scotland,Liverpool and even Blackburn.

I remember the first time I saw him at the famous Frank Beattie Testimonial. Fitting that a guid Tim should be remembered,he’ll have a wry smirk as to why too.

I went to it with my Dad and his pal Harry. I was seven,I think.

After about five minutes,I turned to my Dad and asked who the wee blond boy was,cos he’s all red in the face,Dad. He canny be fit.

Scored six goals. Aye,he’s an embarrassment, right enough.

Oops, forgot to say who that was.

    Tom McAdam.

I didn’t mean to be disparaging by not naming him, just my previous attempt at that post got nuked.

    He was in that one,honest!

Word of The Day (Inspired by Auldheid and the Res 12 guys – who will blink first?)

    BRTH,

I suspect he has a few alternatives.

On KD, as a kid I was in a huff with KD that lasted until reading on here that he was willing to stay and was sold in spite of Jock Stein’s protests, I hope this was correct as it earned KD a reprieve in my books.

Respectfully,I suggest the resolutioners will not blink first. They’ve already had the worst that can be thrown at them.

    Here’s my early-morning list,feel free to add.

    Selloooooots.

    Freeloaders.

    Frauds and thieves. (Crowdfunding themselves.)

    Liars.

Names addresses,photographs-even one in his own kitchen in a rather fetching apron.

    Work history also.

And the fact that one of them-shock,horror!-is in a long-term relationship with someone who is not even white!

Add to that the ritual humiliation by the MSM in their efforts to deflect, and even by some on here.

And then the nub. And you know what it is.

These guys have gone through all of this-a few more have had it too,as a result-and it will all be for naught if one piece of the jigsaw doesn’t fall into place.

And that part of the jigsaw has nothing to do with the resolutioners being wrong, nor being ognored-oh so wrongly-by the SFA,nor being undermined and under-reported in the SMSM. Not even with all the threats from rabid hunnery.

Only Celtic can end it. And only Celtic can follow it all up in the name of every fan who turned up to be cheated for decades.

There’s the silver bullet. IMO,they either use it on the SFA or turn it on their own selves.

Boaby, I get your drift and to clarify, just for you:

    rhetorical question

    noun

a question asked solely to produce an effect or to make an assertion and not to elicit a reply, as “What is so rare as a day in June?”

    i-ro-ny [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-]

    noun, plural ironies.

the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning.

Gerry – Merry Christmas to you as well.

Just know that, the Jungle bells will always ring for you and yer ken.

Aye,….Hugh Keevins….a caller on SSB once pointed out that, HK wasn’t banned from Celtic Park and asked if he’ll now be paying to get into the ground ?

HK replied – “Would you pay to get into your work ?”

    The caller hung up!

Were you the caller by chance ?

There is the story that HK was banned from CP because of the Sean Fallon situation ?

I heard that it was because at the same period of the SF situation, Celtic played Inter Milan at CP in a pre-season friendly and there were about 10,000 fans in the ground.

HK was reporting for the DR at the game.

In Hugh’s report, he pointed out that, with Rangers FC now in Div 3, Celtic Park might see a lot of similar level of crowds until the huns return and, as a consequence of all the lost season ticket revenue well, Celtic’s CEO might be hauled across the coals by DD as to why…..Celtic voted to put Rangers out of the league, with Fergus McCann fueling HK’s report by declaring that – “This is probably the worst decision ‘ever’ taken in Scottish football by putting Rangers FC, out of the same league as Celtic FC.”

Now,….if HK’s press facilities were removed for pointing out the CEO’s bad decision, why did the club not ‘chin’ Fergus McCann ?

For me….Hugh Keevins took the bullet whilst,…in the background,….tens of thousands of Cellic supporters were gluttoning on mountains of jelly and ice cream whilst,….further in the background,….Cellic PLC looked the other way to allow the huns in the back door to work they’re way back….to cheat us again!!!

Oh, and,….whilst Hugh Keevins was getting it tight for not being allowed to do his job inside Celtic Park,….Peter Lawwell was on the plane down to London with Neil Doncaster to negotiate a tv-deal to keep the huns alive!!!!

The dumbfluks all looked the other way to allow the huns back to cheat but,…..guess what ?

Hugh Keevins was the bad guy.

Keep reading the Celtic View Gerry.

    Oh and,…..furthermore….

Take Murdo away from the Maestro’s side and,….

    …..what do ye get ?

    …..a hun 9 in a row ?

    Oh and……furthermore still…..

….in the Butcher og gemme 3-1 to us….

….the Maestro missed about 5 sitters in that game.

But, but, but….it was another magical day in the magical Jungle that, only the magical Jungle could create ‘that’ type of hunskelping magic….in the magical Jungle.

    Oh and,…..furthermore still….

….only ‘ONE’ Jungle Journalist writ his report on a match, actually standing with his fellow Tims in the magical Jungle….know who it was ?

    It was, magical board-sacking-Jungle-loving-hunskelping….Gerry McNee.

    Have guid day Gerry.

    Gerry’s a guid name.

    Kevj,

On HK bullshiting about paying to get into his work, there was/is nothing stopping him, any payment would have simply been a work expense, he does not work at Celtic Park. There are many reporters who pay entry to events to report and claim the ticket costs as an expense. all Celtic done was remove his privileged status that allows him preferential seating and refreshments.

He was supposed to be a Celtic supporter, there are many more Celtic supporters who have been treate more Sheila than him who still pay to go and watch the team.

As for his work, he does not need to attend the stadium to wirte and make up the drivel he spouts so to be perfectly honest it’s neither a loss to the club or him personally he still produces the same level of made up drivel but from his house at his own expense and not at the expense of the club, I’d say that’s fair enough.

For the avoidance of doubt,KEVJ repeats the mantra of Hugh Keevins on how Scottish Football should have dealt with “The Rangers Problem ”

Keep them in the league wi £140m of debt and pay it back at £10m a season.

This would,of course, guarantee a season or ten of honest mistakes as the powers that be get their troops in front.

£20-30m that they have and we don’t and all down to cheating. Times ten.
