90 minute treble tightrope

789

Did we get a fright at Inverness last week?  That’s probably overplaying it a bit, but we didn’t get our own way against a team who have already overachieved this season and are more than capable of raising their game for the big occasion.

This is a team who will have no fears of facing Celtic.  They have a manager who will arrive at Hampden tomorrow with a plan to win the game.

John Hughes will not be the only one with such a plan.  Ronny Deila knows this game is the most important on the roster between now and the end of the season.  Only a potential Scottish Cup Final would be a bigger game.  Without wanting to be disrespectful of Aberdeen’s title push, which is an arithmetical challenge only, we are two wins away from winning the treble, and Inverness are the only top flight team who are able to stop us.

It we do achieve a treble this season it will be our first in 14 years.  Martin O’Neill’s triumph in 2001 was our only one in 46 years, so we have to wait a long time for these occasions.  Unfortunately, it takes only 90 minutes to extinguish the opportunity.  A few refereeing decisions the right way and Dundee United had us in a vulnerable place in the last round.  Without absolute concentration the same could happen tomorrow and the remainder of our season would take on an exhibition-game feel.

Feeling a bit nervous now.

Keep your eye on Kris Commons, he loves Hampden.

The 1968-69 Treble was the greatest in that, the League Cup, against Hibs, the League, and the Scottish Cup were all won, if my memory serves me well, (or should that be if one’s memory serves I well), in April of that year. Got to win the League Cup first of course, but the fact is that we won it in 1975, 1983, and then not until 1998, and we did not win the league in the first two of those seasons. Since Wim of course, we have won the LC five times, so not many real opportunities to win the treble, since 1998, and as Neil’s teams found out in a LC final against Killie, and or a SC semi-final against Hearts, referees can, will and do make crucial decisions against us. We are one third of the way there Paul, and even if we do win tomorrow, and I have every confidence that we will, we will still have two trophies to win. We are on the right road, but must be wary of twists and turns en route.

Dena29- i’m in awe (not awe naw) of your commitment and spend on Celtic. Therefore your comment on season ticket prices is a valid one. I still believe there is room for more creative thinking on how to fill those seats but the scheduling is at the top of the list.

Hope you are good lass! /

I’m not saying I wouldn’t welcome a wee incentive every now and again ………just that if you can avail of most of the games the ST covers its reasonable enough, I’m just jealous of people who can get full use of it :-))

Good post mate. I know a few supporters that would get a season book back if the Saturday 3.00 was Guaranteed for most home games.

Like a lot of our support the Sunday early kick offs is awkward to say the least.

Work (premium rate), travelling for a lot of our irish supporters and others that have to travel and the fact that we are being used by companies as an after thought and we get a pittance for it.

It would be interstesting to know how many season card holders don’t attend and there seats are empty on days we play other than a Saturday.

Plus the revenue lost through food/programs/ halftime draw…etc.

I know the hospitality takes a big hit, listening to my mate, who spends a lot on it. HH

Asked before the Hibees v Bairns who would win I would have said the Hibees, who would I rather win I would have said the Bairns. Now after I have watched the game my feeling are still the same. The Hibees where by far the better team so IF we beat ICT tomorrow this result will make our job in the final that bit easier. I THINK, but I have been wrong before, many times. I more confinent that it is a treble for the Tic this season. Hail Hail

Tend to agree with you mate. Hibs the better footballing side – which only goes to show that no matter how good your team is, football in unpredictable and there’s always the possibility of an upset. Hopefully not tomorrow though!

With GMA, SA & AS all missing, I think RD may play two up front tomorrow (Guidetti & Griffiths) with a return to the midfield diamond (with Commons just behind the strikers) that was a success last season. Gives space for Matthews & Izaguirre to bomb up and down the wings.

The alternative is the usual formation with Forrest and Commons either side of Johansen behind Griffiths, and given Forrest’s poor form would be a huge risk, although the wide spaces of Hampden may help him to find a bit of form.

Ronny will play 433 like he always does, I’d guess:

I had a drink with Pastor Jack Glass. Really good guy and a big Celtic fan. Travelled all over the world to follow Celtic including Lisbon and South America for the World Championship. His son worked in Icelandic Air, so got cheap travel. He was the first Lutheran Minister in Iceland, originally from Kirkintilloch. KTF Cathach

  10. Very unlucky by Hibs.If Cummings is off a bit they have no great cutting edge.Scott Allen is a terrific young player.Vision way beyond his years.Could not have done any more for the Hibbees cause today.MOTM by a mile.

Young Grant is a lump of a boy,is he not?.Played well today.

“We are the people”Aye,very good. Was there not a discussion on here recently, about how Hunnish Falkirk was?.Proof today.

Pog, when i we went to our games at brockville, numerous british flags displayed in the home end and the falkirk fan i used to work with told me they weren’t displayed at our games only.

One of scott allan’s uncles did some work in our house last year. He told me scott was being freed by wet brom at the end of may once his loan at birmingham ended , he wanted to join a london club and enjoy dispearing into the london throng off the pitch.

Going by him wanting a quiet life off th pitch it makes it less than likely he may join us.

    Scott Allan needs Ronny Deila

    ———————————————

TBJ, yeah Ronny could be the man to develop his potential, the boy has an eye for a defence splitting pass, as well as being rather skilful on the ball.

Great work ethic as well.I like watching this boy play.

  14. Happy With The Result Today, Hibs Have a Few Players that Could have caused us problems , should we reach the Final…Falkirk Dont…Simples…
