Abuser hypocrisy, United and Atletico

939

I don’t know what was said to Neil Lennon after the victory over Dunfermline last week but if it caused him to react I can imagine the tone.  The few visits I made to the South Stand during Gordon Strachan’s tenure left an indelible image of life as a Celtic manager.

Whatever Kirk Broadfoot did or did not say to Rangers fans towards the end of their defeat at Kilmarnock yesterday, does anyone seriously think it contained more invective than has been hurled at the player for most of his career?

The self-righteous indignation some football fans exhibit when an employee earning [insert a completely irrelevant figure here]exhibits intolerance to what would get you barred for life from any other workplace in the country is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Garry Kenneth, who is likely to face Celtic at Tannadice on Sunday, today told the world he will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season, saying, “Dundee United are a feeder club, it has always been like that.” Ouch.  Whatever Kenneth thinks of United he should at least respect their fans emotional investment in the club to be a whole lot more careful with his words.  Should make for a tense afternoon in the United defence, especially if we can put the big guy under some pressure.

Big game on Wednesday.  A win would fire enormous impetus into our season.  Whatever the outcome, the game will provide Neil Lennon with a guide on how to play in the hugely important month ahead.

Has Scott Brown left the club? Just asking as I can’t believe the abuse he’s getting from Celtic “fans”. Did Scott agree the transfer fee? No. Did Scott negotiate a good salary? Yes – but so what? Do you all work for free?

What a garbage manner to treat our captain.

more of a disco man myself! – hence the original version and not the luther vandross cover. I missed the whole garage boat

also don’t think we should steal other teams songs, unlike certain other clubs.

Dougie McDonald was getting away with murder long before ‘Dougie, Dougie’ gate.

Jude/PF – The talk of Broon being out the team and WGS playing Robson/Hartley overlooks the fact that we got our most creative player back after injury….Naka! He was particularly brilliant in the 2-1 home win over THEM.

Canamalar – I forgot to mention something that was truly nauseating. Near the end of last season, some lickspittle at the Express did an article about what poor Wattie had been made to endure….no money for new signings, etc. How someone could write an article like that when our manager had gone through everything you listed is totally sickening. Can’t remember the scumbag’s name.

“Can anyone confirm what Broadfoot was alleged to have done yesterday? ”

Yes, I can. He was alleged to have played left back for Rangers. If true that’s really shocking and unforgiveable.

In mitigation, though, he did threaten to malky a few Rangers fans after the match, so maybe he has a good side.

    Brown is a poor CM

yes we improved because of the return of Naka ..but Robson and Hartley were an improvement in the CM area

Barry scored with his first kick of the ball for CELTIC!!! Think it was V Aberdeen.

  9. The issue with Scott Brown is that we are 12 months too late in dealing with this.

    Liam Miller – Strike 1

    Sean Maloney – Strike 2

    Scott Brown – Strike 3??

We were caught on the hop with Liam Miller, though his meteoric rise to prominence offers an excuse. That can be accepted as a hard lesson.

No excuse with Sean Maloney. Our inaction led to the then Scottish player of the year walking out the door at a firesale price.

Against that previous experience, Scott Brown should never have been allowed to get anywhere near the end of his contract without either a new deal being signed or him being sold. An ultimatum to sign a contract by Easter 2011 should have been put to him this time last year. We now don’t control the situation, which is inexcusable, and have opened the door to inevitable media speculation.

Whether or not you value Scott Brown as a footballer, he is a saleable asset. With money at such a premium in our game, it is not acceptable we have risked losing out on that value.

No core player should be allowed to enter the final 12 months of their contract without either signing a new deal (if we want to keep them) or transfer listing them.

    bunbury,

i actually think that some of the SPL teams have improved their outlook on what type of football they should be playing.

killie, st mirren and dunfermline amongst others have actually tried to pass the ball this year.

others are still a little less refined….

Not perfect by any matter of means.

    Good evening Guys,

I do beleive we should let Scott Brown leave, He has never really reached the heights we thought he would achieve. We now have players in his position who are better and younger. Okay we may loose him on a free, but we would be saving on the wage bill. I also think we should really be looking at a permanent Goalkeeper, Craig Gordan seems to be the one everybody is talking about. If he is fit and healthy i would go along with that.

  17. damn posted too soon ….

The Hat agree on asset management, if we want Brown to stay he signs before this season starts or we sell, the ball is now in his court

it is now up to him we have no control over where he goes and if he goes in Dec we will get buttons.

We’ll probab buy broonie back for 20mill. I know thats silly but you get my point??

  20. Pfayr, agreed.

David Peter Deans. Don’t disagree on the football side of things. The issue is that 12 months ago Neil indicated he wanted to get Scott’s new deal in place – we now risk leaving Neil with no Scott Brown, and no money to fund his replacement.

  21. Barry Robson? No thanks, not even on a free, good servant at the time but we have far far better players now.

I really hope Scott Brown stays but would not be heartbroken if he goes.

Shows you the difference in the squads- they have 2 reasonable outfield players and would be paralysed if either decides to go. We can afford to let our captain leave in the knowledge we have plenty of top quality alternatives ready to step in.

  22. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

I see Dean Saunders has made the sewer rat captain at Doncaster Rovers. I used like Dean too!!

  23. Scott Brown will not be leaving Celtic any time soon.

And i shall quote the man himself:

“I am captain of Celtic, one of the greatest football clubs in the world. Why would i want to leave?”

  24. tommytwiststommyturns on

The Hat – what a damning indictment of the CEO. No doubt it’s all the fault of the various football managers…

WTF is the point of spending good money scouting young stars like Izzy & Vic and then handing all the bargaining power to a guy who’s cost you circa £8M? Someone is not doing their job and I’m not talking about Scott Brown!
