Abuser hypocrisy, United and Atletico

939

I don’t know what was said to Neil Lennon after the victory over Dunfermline last week but if it caused him to react I can imagine the tone.  The few visits I made to the South Stand during Gordon Strachan’s tenure left an indelible image of life as a Celtic manager.

Whatever Kirk Broadfoot did or did not say to Rangers fans towards the end of their defeat at Kilmarnock yesterday, does anyone seriously think it contained more invective than has been hurled at the player for most of his career?

The self-righteous indignation some football fans exhibit when an employee earning [insert a completely irrelevant figure here]exhibits intolerance to what would get you barred for life from any other workplace in the country is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Garry Kenneth, who is likely to face Celtic at Tannadice on Sunday, today told the world he will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season, saying, “Dundee United are a feeder club, it has always been like that.” Ouch.  Whatever Kenneth thinks of United he should at least respect their fans emotional investment in the club to be a whole lot more careful with his words.  Should make for a tense afternoon in the United defence, especially if we can put the big guy under some pressure.

Big game on Wednesday.  A win would fire enormous impetus into our season.  Whatever the outcome, the game will provide Neil Lennon with a guide on how to play in the hugely important month ahead.

  4. To Scott Brown or to not Scott Brown?. I prefer James Forrest myself. Mind you if tottingham come in with a mega bid in January that woud pay the wages of a few more right backs who we seem fond of at the mo. It’s like the more magazine position of the fortnight.

I’d prefer we punted Scott, made Charlie Mulgrew Captain and signed a centre half to play alongside him.

How close are Kelvin Wilson and Izaguire to a return?

Just in case you are still awake! Athletico would need to be a last minute thing. If not I was going to talk to you about the Hearts game. Having been at that match back in 1974 it would be fantastic if we could beat them.

  6. Danny Boyle, Blaser Brown and Charlie Donnelly and Neil Lennon

Fair play to him for getting a good deal, and it was the club who decided to spend 4.4 milion for him, I was exicted when he signed, I thought he would be a super player for us, and on manys an ocassion he has.

Over the 4 years he has been at the club, he has cost the club 40k a week, and if you think he has been worth that fair enough, I don’t, I have as much a right to voice my opinion as you have.

I haven’t slagged the bhoy off, in fact I never slag off any of the players, if the truth be known, which I think is obvious, it’s the flawed asset management I am having a dig at, not the player.

  7. Cant see Gordon playing again for Sunderland even when he is fit, as Hearts are due a big payment linked to appearances. The mini huns said this last week when they couldnt pay the wages.Whatever happened to the Lee Wallace money?

We canny punt him. He’s off for nowt!!! P L to blame should have tied him up in a contract ages ago.

  11. BelfastCityCelt, Granted Scott Brown did say that but the indications are he will be away in January or the Summer.

I see someone from stv has us back in for Diawara. I think they read this site.

You could wee be right all the same.

Celtic have been more than good to him.If he does decide to sign a pre-contract with another club in January, then he should never again be allowed to wear the green and white.

Can’t agree mate, if SB leaves he will go to a PL team, BR’s level is the Championship. Loved the guy when he was here and did his bit in ’08 but we are almost in ’12.

Now if BR had a right foot……..

  14. ESTADIO- Hope your stay in hospital is a short one-get well soon.

PF Ayr – A tad harsh on SB,I agree he is never a central midfielder, but 4 weeks ago we missed his energy as the midfield looked stale. Now with

the progress of Our Vic and the return too form of Kayal he will need to bide his time, even more so if we get a fit left back which would free up JL

for midfield as well. Overall the return for the money spent on wages & transfer fee will always come into the argument about how effective SB

has been for us which backs your opinion, maybe I just find it hard to slag a Celtic captain.HH.

I think the team is good enough nick, with or without Scott Brown.

If he doesn’t want to sign a new deal, then the club just has to cut it’s loses.

Worst case scenario is it frees up 25 grand a week in wages.

Short memories guys, we dropped most of the points with Broony out of the team this season, better with him in the team than not.

  19. i see lenny was down watching charlton v huddersfield .the sky man said he was looking at jordan rhodes. well i would forget about him, done nothing all night the other big striker the beast they call him ,and twice his age was more affective.

timbhoy2 – i agree. i wouldnt take jordan roads either. dont like the name, he sounds a bit hunnish. we should be looking for celtic men to get into that side that means there is no way we would surrender the league again

    Re Scott Brown.

SB has cost us 8.2 million with transfer fee and 18k a week wages, might be less, might be more, whatever it is, he sure hasn’t been worth 40k approx a week imo, others may disagree.

Asset management for the beginer……PL has made a major baws up of the whole affair.

Calm down TET and do the maths!

If we had not signed him his £4.2M fee would have been spent on someone else (or 2 or 3) + wages. It was in the budget to be spent at that moment in time – the asset management now is: how much can we hope to recoup?

We could argue that we might have spent the same sum of money on 2 players (example: similar to Loovens and Hoojiveld) and could now be arguing about what we would be likely to get trying to engineer – the 2 sales to shift that kind of player as their contracts ran out? IMO – a more difficult task.

His wages have been factored into subsequent annual budgets (since we signed him) – recouping his purchase price (or best part off) will be the key to assest management.

If he doesn’t resign and we sell him – we could be anything up to £3M down on the deal.

If and its a big if we resign him and punt him in the summer – then we stand a chance of recouping most of our outlay. His wages (though expensive) would have been spent on others – question is: might they have brought us any greater success?

Who knows? For all his faults – Brown is a sellable asset. Our major problem is the extensive catalogue of loan players we have scattered the length and breadth of Europe – now by my reckoning they are costing us a damn sight more that Broonie’s weekly wage!

    H!H!

    and..

That kinda Price is far to Rich fur oor Blood!

We should have bid fur him.. months ago..

In the succeeding Months his Valuation has Shot Sky High.

We should resume negos with Diawara..

His Price range is More within oor Budget.

i dont really think we have a captain but scott is the closest thing we have
