Advertising Standards Authority step into Scottish football

669

I hear the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have written to complainants confirming they are investigating adverts run by Rangers International Football Club plc, in which they claim to be Scotland’s most successful football club.  You and I know that’s not the case, Celtic are Scotland’s most successful football club, followed at a distance by Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibs, Queens Park, Motherwell, Kilmarnock……. and ultimately East Fife.

The confusion has perhaps arisen following the demise of The Rangers Football Club plc, who laid claim to 54 Scottish titles before their failure to pay creditors ultimately led to liquidation.  Rangers International Football Club plc have traded for less than a year and would be pushed to justify their claim in the face of Celtic’s magnificent domestic and European history.  They cannot, of course, claim to be a now liquidated company.

The Advertising Standards Authority will write to both the advertiser and advert broadcaster asking them to submit evidence in support of their claim.  The ASA will then send a recommendation to the ASA Council for adjudication.

In the event the advertiser accepts the complaint and agrees to change future advertising claims the ASA will write to complainers to confirm the matter has been resolved.

Celtic’s claim is simple, we are the champions of Scotland, winners of more leagues and cups than anyone else still kicking a ball in Britain, Northern Europe’s first European Champions and we observe all football, tax and civil laws.

  1. To those who say we should ignore Sevco, I think you are wrong. We owe it, as the Celtic support now, to the Celtic support of the past and the Celtic support of the future to expose their lie. They died, we won. Their corruption, cheating, lying will not be allowed to stand. This Celtic support won this victory.

To the Green Brigade, please think for yourselves, don’t be manipulated by anyone, be good Celtic supporters no more and no less. Then this family will stand behind you and your enemies. Support Celtic like the rest of us and we will support you. You will never walk alone.

Aye god bless Paddy – A true friend.

One of lifes biggest regrets was that I chose the Albion game that day and drove the car up to the side of the park and sat in the car with wee Honey O’Hanlon listening to events unfolding at Love Street. Around Albert Kidd time, the motor ended up on the park, chasing players – known to be Dobs – and the referee, just for a laugh.

The horn was goin’ rapid and the game itself was Donald Ducked:)

A motorcade around the village with the Pogues getting nanty followed by Paddy makin’ his appearance in the Hoops – He had the jersey on for 2 days.

I learned something about myself and somethin’ I’m embarrassed to admit that I had forgot about Celtic that day.

I’m sorry we didn’t quite connect in Seville, but I sure as hell would have met you in London this May.

  6. Roy Croppie _ agreed re Jim Stewart, I’m sure he turned round and looked in the net for the ball, even though he knew it was really in the other half.

  7. Does anyone know the odds on who will be the next SPL manager to get sacked and who Dave Murray will pick to be his successor?

I hear Burghbhoy has been suitably chastised, almost to the point of ostricisation in the parish, and has felt the overwhelming necessity to offer appropriate atonement to a certain Mr. KTP.

  11. Teuchter…….a story about Honey.

I was 2 years younger than the bhold O’Hanlon but we mucked about together at Primary.Celtic and playing fitba were the only agenda . Anyway , we had arranged to go to Big Luckys house after school but Winnie wasnt in. ‘ ill get in’ volunteered the bhold bhoy and promptly shimmied up the drain pipe into Joe Crow’s bedroom through what seemed like a 6 inch gap.

Me and Lucky are waiting to be let in, and waiting and waiting .

Eventually the door swung open, the bhold Honey chewing an apple with a fray bentos steak & kidney browning in the oven!!

Helluva laddie, easily led astray and had a heart of gold.

Best fitba player I played with , no doubt.

A young bhoy cut off in his prime .

    I salute him!

I doubt if I will be on this site for the next week,so I would like to remember three brave men,who put themselves forward to protect their neighbours from the continual brutality of a despot landlord.

On the 2nd April 1878 these brave men brought forward the end of landlord ism in Fanad Donegal.

If anyone is in Fanad on Easter Monday, why don’t you join us in the Commeration at Kindrum at 3.00.All welcome.

Neil Shiels,Michael Heraghty and Michael McElwee,We salute you.

    ……………………………………………….

Don’t post on CQN these days but have decided to come out of retirement after reading your post above. I googled Fanad Patriots to find out more about the story and how the three heroes dealt with Leitrim. One piece of information that caught my attention. While the men were awaiting trial, the following appeal appeared in the “Derry Journal” from a Scottish group shortly after the killing.

““We beg to remind our fellow countrymen in Coatebridge that four men are at present in Donegal awaiting trial on suspicion of being concerned in the shooting of the Earl of Leitrim. Strenuous efforts are being put forth by the Government to secure their conviction, and it now devolves upon you to assist as far as you are able in securing for them at least a fair trial.

“This can only be done at enormous expense, which the relatives of the persons are unable to bear. A large Committee has been formed here which has volunteered to make a house-to-house collection and we trust that when they call upon you, that you will contribute as generously as you can afford”.

    C. O’Neill, Chairman

    D. Murray, Secretary

    W.J. Fields, Treasurer”

I’m sure there would have been a great response from the people of Coatbridge to help pay for the defence of the three men arrested to be brought to trial for the assassination of the despotic Lord Leitrim.

I’m interested to know if any of the Bhoys from the Brig who post on here know anything about the men named on the committee.

    Hail! Hail!

Sorry for the error in the number of men arrested. One of the men died while in custody.
