AJER IN DEMAND

CELTIC’S resolve over Kristoffer Ajer is about to be tested by Serie giants AC Milan, according to reports.

The champions have steadfastly refused to contemplate allowing the Norwegian central defender to leave Parkhead as they prepare for a season that could see them crowned champions of Scotland for a record-breaking tenth successive term.

Ajer still has two years to run on his contract, but that has not stopped speculation the Italians want the 22-year-old international with suggestions they have already had a £13.5million offer knocked back by the Hoops hierarchy.

They are now prepared to pay £22.5million for a player they have watched progress over the past two seasons, according to the Sunday Post.

Stefano Pioli is currently in charge of the Milanese club, but is tipped to be sacked with his place set to be taken by German coach Ralf Rangnick.

Both are admirers of the giant Nordic star who formed an impressive central partnership with £7million arrival Christopher Jullien last season as Neil Lennon’s men notched their ninth championship in a row.

The Irishman will be in no rush to part with the player, especially after the club allowed Jozo Simunovic to leave at the start of last month.
