I’m a bit confused at the chat this morning of reintroducing the sale of alcohol at football games. Alcohol is available for sale at games at Celtic Park, you just need to have a ticket for an expensive enough seat. If you’re in the cheap seats, you get to queue to pay for some cola. Is people’s ability to pay an indication of their likelihood to behave in a dangerous or criminal way with some alcohol in their blood?
This implication has always troubled me.
Alcohol, wherever it is sold, inevitably leads to over-indulgence and potentially dangerous behaviour, and requires strong stewarding, whether that is at a night club, or in the No. 7 restaurant. Scotland’s licenced premises have changed beyond recognition in recent decades. They are increasingly well-lit, family friendly and safe places to be. They now sell better beer too, but our nation’s problem with alcohol remains acute.
Society needs to be educated on how to use alcohol responsibly; good venues are part of the solution.
While we are on the subject of facilities at Celtic Park……. I go months without buying food or drink in the North Stand, Upper, for good reason. Last week (pestered by one of the boys), I left for the kiosk with 40 minutes on the clock, didn’t get served until the second half started, only to be told there were no hotdogs or pies left.
You know me, I’m not one to get angry at Celtic, but the sheer frustration pushed me over the top, and I didn’t have a drink! If you’re charging circa £4 for something that’s costing less than £1, make sure stock is sufficient. Have two people serving each side of the kiosk, not two on one side, with a single person making hardly a dent on the queue at the other.
Needed to get that off my chest.
The ‘news’ this morning that Rangers International are trying to sack commercial director, Imran Ahmad, is more curious for being news than in itself. Is it even possible for this news to be anything other than a leak from a director against another director? These newspaper people don’t do irony, they just take careful notes and go write up their story.
This whole episode is beginning to feel a bit like sitting out the back when the neighbours don’t realise their bedroom window is open. You can hear the noises and you looked up and caught a glance at something horrific looking. It’s something you’ll laugh about later with your friends but these people really need to acquire some dignity.

My memory tells me old firm matches in the mid 70s kicked off at 1:00 pm on a saturday. Strathclydes finest were behind this i think rather than industrial action
greenyin
This might happen to you after the game if drink is made available at Celtic Park.

Where is NI?
Fair play to Graham Pearson MSP and ex match commander on STV News, now if your ex colleagues are lurking,
Fair Play to The Green Brigade.
FAC
I think the intention, at least initially, is to restrict the sale of alcohol to the various concourses and not to permit alcohol to be taken into the seated areas and consumed during games.
Invite Fergus to unfurl the league championship flag!
Absolutely imo.
…but not just that.
Name the North Stand after him (as I and others suggested on here some time ago), AND erect a statue to the mhan. We don’t have to wait until he’s popped his cloggs – an event which is still very much in the future I hope.
Sure he rubbed some people up the wrong way, and left in 1999 with a £20+ million profit on his initial investment. But he took a big financial risk in putting up £9.2 million of his own money, which was c65% of all he had then.
Look where we were then, and look where we are now.
The booing incident was shameful and still embarrases me to this day.
I often wonder where we would be today if he, and others, had not come in at the eleventh hour.
Yes things are not perfect – matchday catering eg; but they could be a lot worse.
Come back Fergus! There will be NO booing this time!
HH!!
Csb Thanks for that. You have made a drunken old Tim very happy! Thank God I never drank as a kid-would have remembered Hawhaw ;-) BRB
Just listening to SSB
The BIG news story is NL’s strop with the POTY stuff.
Puts that story about corruption at Sevco into its true light right enough…….
Tallybhoy.
Re fergus
said for years now we should have a statue of the wee man.
But would prefare the north stand be named after Tommy Burns, a true celt through and through.
No calls yet at SSB – just a big rant at NL etc etc
Brilliant.
Big surprise- Sevco/ STV news leads with a good news bears story featuring the whisperer- no mention of the underhand dealings- move along Timmy- nothing to see here
Stv news saying novo wants to come back and play for the deedies down govan way.
Anything to get thier f’n hopes up.
Idiots the lot of them.
Oh oh oh it’s magic, you know, it’s gonna be three in a row…

As attacking line-ups go,that takes some beating.
Tommy Callaghan was the only natural midfielder, playing alongside five attackers.
Wow…..

ABSOLUTELY brilliant…….. We know, and they know, ‘the ‘bottom line’ ………go on, NEIL, you know you want to…..
1) Demand an enquiry or, even better, an impartial ‘commission’…
2) Ask them to NAME NAMES……
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha P’ing myself at the indignation of the peepul pundits …… Hilarious…

Should have said “Couldn’t help myself”
67 heaven – over a quarter of the programme gone and we are still on POTY.
Its hilarious – absolutely comody gold. At least they have had a (carefully filtered) call now. 35 mins in and counting…..
FAC in action………..looks like our trip to Holyrood had the desired effect.
A big thanks to MSP Siobhan McMahon for all her help and input.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha……a couple of weeks ago I was getting pelters for listening to SSB …. But why not, it’s an excellent comedy show, with pundits at the bottom rung of the football / intelect ladder trying to drum up controversy……. When I found out that they vet the callers to find out what they are going to talk about ( so they get time to prepare their answer), I just had to gufffffaawwww….
50 shades of green
Earlier in the week you were saying you went to st julies.
Did you play for the school team?
So fat sally reckons bomber ‘might just have a point ‘ regards his comments about green
Is that all ………………really ??
Mrs Che just said “why do you watch him every night and then start ranting?”
“Who?” Says I
” ragman baw bag”
She actually thinks thats his name, just goes to show she does listen to me sometimes….
Question is should I tell her?
don’t drink alcohol often but am all for working class football fans being able to buy alcohol at the football. if I attend a concert, boxing, racing, rugby the cinema etc… I get to make a choice about what I want to drink/ eat, football is no different and the people who attend football grounds are the same people who attend the other things.
celtic should be applauded for the effort to make attending the ground better for disabled supporters, for kid, for families and for adults, but instead what we get is moans and complaints ffs, we have to move with the times and some will need to make small adjustments outwith the clubs control. maybe in a couple of years time the exact same people will be delighted because we will have a stadium befitting the supporters.
p.s. would love to see significant investment and improvement of the stadium envoi (celtic triange) alongside the plans afoot for inside the stadium.
Sipsini.
I did play for them mate.
Seen your post re ray h and posted back. I am 2 yrs older than ray so never played in that team.
P.s. Was also a right back

Jabba’s only there for the Corpulent Hospitality
Any drink sold at the games will be watered down guff like is sold down south. If you tried to get drunk on it there would be more danger of drowning than getting drunk.
Halfway thru SSB and still on NL and the POTY stuff
Obviously no other stories in Scottish Football at the moment..
