Ange sets tone like a boss

152

By any measure, Ange Postecoglou is clever. Thrust by sponsors into sitting beside Mick Beale for a pre-cup final media conference, there was no “lucky man” barbs sent along the table, instead, he spoke about Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s achievements.

“He won a trophy, finished second in the league and got to the Final of the Europa League. You change a couple of those things and they’re building statues to that guy. It’s a fine line.” Don’t criticise your opponent, just remind everyone of the achievements of his predecessor. Who was still sacked.

Games are not won at a presser five days out, all the hard work lies ahead, but Postecoglou set the tone in the room like a boss, he is determined to land this plane.

With possibly 120 minutes to plan for, Ange will be pleased Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull are available for selection. After the game at Ibrox on 2 January moved against Celtic, Mooy replaced Matt O’Riley. The response was not instant and had more to do with the introduction of Jota than anything else, but I expect Aaron will start on Sunday.

Ha, ha, I didn’t say I was coming back straight after the pub, I might have to wait a day or two!

    All good here

  2. The other week for me Mooy looked a bit tired , our midfield will be the bhoys which started against the sheep

Abada will start instead of Jota again based on what I saw v the sheep

  3. Kyogo Furuhashi in modest ‘I’m not a great player’ claim as Celtic striker addresses Japan World Cup omission and goals target

Kyogo Furuhashi has set his sights on scoring 30 goals for Celtic before the end of the season as the Japanese striker dismissed any speculation of an imminent transfer exit – insisting he is fully focused on winning silverware for the Parkhead club.

Despite netting 23 times in all competitions already this season, the current Scottish Premiership top scorer (19) reckons he is far from the finished article. His impressive goal tally has attracted interest from clubs in England, with Crystal Palace reportedly linked with a move for the Hoops star.

Furuhashi, who proved an instant hit with fans after signing from Vissel Kobe in the summer of 2021, opened up on the disappointment of missing out on a place in Japan’s World Cup squad by admitting he was left “inspired” after watching his country’s memorable run to the last-16 stage of the tournament.

The 28-year-old is motivated to thrust himself back into the international fold by maintaining his high performance level in a green and white jersey and believes there are aspects of his game that can be improved.

Speaking to German media, he said: “I want to be as successful as possible with this club. My focus is only on Celtic to be able to have the most possible success for the club. As a team, we want to win as many titles as possible with Celtic. As my personaly goal, I would like to score 30 goals this season.

“But of course, I don’t know what will happen in the future. So I just want to score as many goals as possible and contribute to the team’s victory.

“Obviously I’m not a great player, so I still need to keep working on my game and improving. My positional play, for example, or the timing when I offer myself for a pass, or that I will be even more varied in my finishing. I keep working on those things in training so that I can implement all of these processes in the game in the best possible way.

“I am very grateful because I have great team mates, club staff and fans who all always support me. Fans who cheer me on, a team of coaches who trust me as well as my team mates who fight for the ball with a lot of physical effort and create chances with wonderful passes.

  4. ange is leaving.

kyogo is leaving in the summer and not a very good player anyways.

    cup final build up anyone

  5. Agree that Mooy must start. He very seldom wastes a pass.

O’Riley has been off it for months . Not up to the physical side of the game yet , although he might get there in the future if he puts on a few kilos.

  6. mooy also has a steely determination to him, he seldom gets wound up, very very focused, and tough with it.

    play him.

  7. Matt O’Riley for me ahead of Mooy. He does an incredible amount of work and covers for Hatate’s defensive deficiencies. If Mooy and Hatate start Calmac would have a heart attack trying to put out all the fires…

  8. Mick’s obviously a decent coach…………..the huns will eventually chase him.

Re the game at the weekend, I’m not as worried about him as I am the currant ‘fishals……………….

Why is it we still have to be factor in having to score early an’ often to obviate the boul’ hun haun?

    Fix fitba; empty Hampden CSC

  9. Don’t think Abada is the man for this game.

Maybe as an impact sub but definitely not a starter.

Bealezebub might be a decent coach but the image he projects evert time he opens his mouth is dire .

My wife was hassling me the other about my addiction to clickbait.

    What happened next was INSANE!!!!

  12. MOTM Abada who scored 2 goals against them in the first half in September ?

    That Abada ?

The one who scored the 3rd in the 3-0 on half time Abada ?

    The one who terrorises Barisic.

The one who, when played, has a better winning record than Daizen Maeda has against Rangers ?

Abada all day long if you wanna score goals but a nice problem to have that all 3 of our wingers, including Jota, are matchwinners against them.

Jamesey, on the other hand, can watch it from the sofa this time.

  13. GlenD…………..

    I’m guessin’ he’s best suited to a support role…….

…a number 2…(in both senses of the word!)

  15. Tom, he was very average last Saturday.

The previous 2 games he came on as sub . Scored a decent goal against a 10 man St Mirren and didn’t do much against St Johnstone.

  16. It’s a great dilemma we have on team selection, from a position of strength. Not so long ago we were advocating players from pure desperation e.g., Soro

    My tuppence worth

    Standard back 5

    Mooy McGregor Hatate

    Jota Kyogo Maeda

Based on what i think will happen. I can’t decide on right mid- both great players

O’Reilly, Abada come on for Mooy, Jota at 60; Haksa and Iwata for Maeda, Hatate on 80

  17. What is required is players willing to get stuck in , because they will most certainly be up against agricultural opponents .

  18. Jimtim

Strangely, that threat may not be as great as the cup game last year

Chief thug Lundstrom may not play or be carrying an injury

Jack is a spent force and Bassey is gone. Kamara isn’t like that and new guys are lightweight

The biggest thug will be Morelos

  19. I never make predictions………………..

But…….see what this Gers Legend has to say about Big Ange and his lucky jumper here………….
