Armstrong, Convicted Dave, playing with fire

1051

News that we are after a second Dundee United midfield player will prove popular, Stuart Armstrong has been tipped for progress for a couple of years.  He is another Ronny Deila-type player, a strong runner who can get up and down the field.  As usual, I’ll reserve judgement until we sign him, and I’ve had a chance to watch him properly.

You have to admire his balls.  Dave King assertion that a conviction for tax fraud is a “favourable settlement” goes beyond parody.  I’m unsure if some PR flop put those words in his head or if he concocted the notion by himself, but just as you cannot shine a turd, it is impossible to spin an undisputed criminal conviction.  He was convicted of criminal offenses.  If this is your measure of favourable, your standards are truly deplorable.

I fail to see why King even is discussing such matters with the media, unless he’s currying favour with the Daily Record.  These assertions will make no difference whatsoever to the stock market, or any reputable nominated adviser, nor will it hold sway with the SFA.  It is also a futile battleground.  In the event King gains control of newco Rangers, he doesn’t need to be a director to exercise de facto control, Paul Murray has been his man for years.  Mike Ashley is not a director, and he owns less than 9% of the club, but he appears to be able to dictate play quite comfortably.

Without a trace of irony, King told the Record: “The enthusiasm that this board adopts to ‘media management’ and its failure to act in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders is exactly why they should be jettisoned”.

Trying hard to avoid the merest whiff of media management himself, King then added, “History will judge this board as one of the worst the club has ever had. There is not one individual who puts the club above personal interest.”

There you have it folks, our pal Dave is a man you can trust.

Just as the Newco board didn’t have enough on their plate, interim manager Kenny McDowell tendered his notice, although in true ‘Rangers’ tradition, he’s not going without a pay-off.  It’s an added vote of no confidence the regime could do without.  They now face the embarrassing prospect of allowing an interim to remain in control as a lame duck, or put a second manager on gardening leave.

Mike Ashley’s prospects of a successful turnaround look bleak in the face of such uniform and orchestrated antagonism.  I wonder if he’s the kind of man who takes manipulation lightly?  If not, the manipulators are playing with fire.

So the Zombie infighting continues…..with Sideshow Charlie re-entering the show from his hospital bed.

Whilst MA remains anon and behind the scenes playing his cards, one by one.

    Interesting how this pans out!

Sweet justice indeed after the games to try and put us out of business in the 90s for £1m.

Whether it’s the attempt at legalise or the self-parodying use of ‘we , the people ‘ , i find it both fascinating and revolting – a bit like watching someone pick a bogey , examine it and eat it .

sorry to hear about your dad. lost mine 2 years ago, and still miss him. Stay strong and keep posting. I found the people on here a great comfort at the time.

  4. Some business sense to signing a Stuart Armstrong, in my opinion only and all conjecture

A typical English Championship player costing £2m would want £25-30k ? per week if lucky costing us somewhere between £7-8m on a 4 year deal ?

May even cost us something similar for a Tonev or Wakaso perm deal ?

A Stuart Armstong deal at £2m would cost us say £15-20k ? per week, so over same period may cost us £5-6m over contract

Most certainly makes sense to me, for us now to look at home options ?

as said all in my own head :-)

Hail Hail from Manchester, and still to see Darren Fletcher :-)

Armstrong will be ahead of Henderson and McGreggor imo.

He’ll be an absolute starter I reckon

  6. Cowie hoy

Armstrong will be on £2k week at DUFC. He will walk to Celtic on bare feet for £8k/ week?

I still read/lurk here a lot but got out of the habit of posting because I was in a different time zone and always coincided with those shadowy wee small hours when the forum is quiet.

Back on Celtic park time now, at least for a while.

  8. Armstrong is like Johansen but is much stronger in the tackle!! the type of player needed to plug the gaps in this new pressing and sometimes defensively exposed team!

excited about GMS and will provide us with continuity in terms of tactics when james forrest is injured.

would love the young scotland left back (from hull) – he outwith our budget?

  9. Chuckles is ridiculous and we do need to thank him.

It’s not that I take him or any of the other jokers seriously but they get so much oxygen it’s unreal .

My concern is that their lies and rhetoric go unchallenged and have done for years. At it again tonight ‘kicked out the spl’ .

No backbone from the clubs accused of ‘kicking’ out a new club wanting to ditch debt but have access to all the same revenue streams.

  10. Cults

SA is 4 year older than Liam but similar type players. I imagine Ronny would play them together.

  14. No Excuses

Your comments re them saying ‘kicked out the spl’ etc is exactly their problem. They still cannot face reality, with what has happened, where they are now and where they are heading.

Let them think they are the same club. Let them think they are the mighty ‘*rangers*’. It’s this kind of delusion that has led to their self destruction and long may it continue. They can do more damage to themselves than we ever could.

We have to remember that Chuckles has freely told lies from day one, about himself, the huns and even us.

His slot on talksport with Keys and the fawning Andy Gray was truly cringeworthy, even worse than his Christmas tale. The guy’s obviously very bright in one area but somethings loose somewhere. Felt a bit sorry for him earlier.

No excuses… I know what you mean. SSN is becoming the Sunday Sport of TV.

  17. Cultsbhoy

Thats the point I was making

We will get a Scottish SPFL player for anywhere between 8 – 15k per week

We will not get one from England for that

So makes business sense, if we believe the player is good enough, and we have seen playing in our environment

We also give an opportunity to perform at a higher level, and if they do well, decent sell on value

For me this plucking unknowns and trying them out has been a bit of a disaster, outwith a few exceptions

Hail Hail and Nytol, early morning meeting

You make a good point and you might be right my friend.

It’s the damage that apathy is doing to us that’s worrying me. And the apparent cosiness of our club and Neil Dungcatcher and Ogilvie, surely the 2 most unashamedly corrupt operators in scottish football history (and that is quite a claim)

IMO The Armstrong , Mackay Steven type signings are a sensible step. These are players who are proved at SPL level. This is our minimum each season, they can contribute. Each is also young enough and talented enough to transform into euro players. No brainer as far as I see it.

  22. Cowiebhoy

I hope we can adopt this kind of policy however the emerging home grown talent is probably not enough

makes economic sense if we can identify and obtain them

    Re the Liverpool game.

Best I’ve seen Liverpool play for a while, but I thought Chelsea played well within themselves tonight, with them having so many irons still in the fire this season.

Mourinho manages a season well, knowing when his teams have to go all-out, and when they can play as they did tonight, keeping a bit in reserve for the 2nd leg.

Seems to work, given his record.

    Feisty in Dingwall!

    Armageddon, indeed.

  27. No Excuses

I trust PL and our Board to do what’s best for us. It’s not easy for them, they cannot be seen to publicly intoxicate the situation by going against the zombies. It would put Celtic supporters at risk by aggravating that lot. There are wider social issues to consider such as the welfare of the Celtic support.

You are correct about Ogilvie. How he is still in his job says everything about him and the SFA.
