Backlash Sunday

833

It is difficult to overstate the importance of Sunday’s cup final to Motherwell. They have won as many major trophies in the last 65 years as Celtic have won European Cups in the same period. What an opportunity they have.

Sunday might be just another final to you and me, or more importantly, to the Celtic players, but it is a date with destiny for all at Motherwell.

Right now, Celtic players will still be de-escalating emotions from Wednesday night. It is difficult to switch from one emotional peak straight into an equally intense state, but if we do not find our sharpness or thought and body, the Invincible trail will end this weekend.

I don’t think that will happen; there should be a backlash from Celtic. The open wounds from Wednesday will be used as fuel. The players have been slapped about by the hurt of defeat and will want to avoid a repeat on a national cup final. If Motherwell want to win, score a goal, or if they even want to pass the ball, they will have to operate at a level they have only attained for seconds this season.

The stakes are as high for both teams. Let’s hope the matter is decided without controversy.

Have a great and memorable day at Hampden.

you should post a link of you singing that song

I’m sure that would go down well

I think that James McFadden has interesting insight on the professional game, not yet constrained by the quest to stay pals with everyone in football or the media.

Couple of weeks ago, he was speaking about Motherwell’s Robinson on Radio Scotland. A flattering profile overall, maybe surprising I suppose given he was bumped in the summer. Said the emphasis for Motherwell is putting the ball into certain areas of the pitch as quickly as possible. Lots of running without the ball. Heading the ball on from wide as much as central. Brought to my mind the welly booted Egil Olsen, although I can’t confirm Robinson is a Communist.

Should be a good final and if we bring our stuff, we’ll smash ’em. Adeste fideles

It’s a very tough one to sing solo, try the above one on You Tube if you fancy a listen,

I just join in on the chorus.

Connaghan made his debut the Wednesday after the 4-1 debacle at East End Park. Thought he was signed immediately after the final but could be wrong.

*he was, I was at the semi, with EDBs younger brother BTW, when he played a blinder for St Mirren. He was actually on our books as a youngster and farmed out tae Yoker then freed

fellow cherished members of the scottish football community; I wish to ask that we respect our comrades who may well face difficulty tonight and that we don’t succumb to sniggering, tittering, schadenfreude or laffin our baws off at them so in unison could we please give due regard to the integrity of mEcBaTnn and those two tits on rtv

    many thanks

  8. A BT rangers love in tonight . It’s like playschool from Regan and the gardener . Would make you sick

  9. Hello again all you young rebels.

Like everybody else of a Celtic persuasion it’s tough thinking

about that mauling from PSG but get over it we will, how we

eradicate those defensive errors against quality teams is

another matter and i’m happy to leave it to our manager.

Our youth club here in Oz have their trials for the new season

ahead this morning, I’m expecting a bit of stick from the EPL

twats but our young bhoys will be proudly wearing their hoops

and they will give them it back big time, nothing gets you over

a bad defeat like watching a young Celtic wannabes strutting

    their stuff :-))

    H.H Mick

  10. Morales whacked himself off post. Could have broken ribs imo. Anyhow off injured.

Half Time Nil All (For all those who have a soft spot for Dundee).

  11. And nice to hear from you too Big Packy.

Just getting my own Celtic top ready for this morning and

the wee mhan sitting all ready with his hoops on ” ur ye

finished yir tea yet papa? c’mon we need tae go ”

He’s well up for it lol.

    H.H Mick

  12. Once again Paul is providing an excuse for our players to fail. I thought he was against this sort of thing.

    Hypocracy rules.

And then again, asking for non controversy while Celtic remain resolutely silent about cheating is, what’s that word again?

    Oh yeah.

    More hypocracy.

Who would have thunk it eh?

  13. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

BT sound guy twiddling the dials selectively during the community singing.

Commentary team willing Sevco to win. Clawing sycophancy at it’s worst.

  14. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Why is it not also about what Dundee need to win?

Surely they are in more need of the points?

  15. If corkcelt is still around. I spent a bizarre but fantastic weekend in cork many years ago (a stag weekend). The people were as ever brilliant. The location beautiful. The seas fishing and the paintball very bad ideas. But the pubs and nightclubs great.

I am now officially too old for that sort of thing now……

  16. Hypocrisy:

” the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.”

  17. My football watching of choice this evening is

    England Ladies v Bosnia Ladies,

much easier on the eye,and probably more skill on show

    than the Sevco game

Have a listen, it is brilliant stuff! Love the bit about the most disgusting thing that happened on the park playing for Celtic…you will laugh out loud!

Jim’s book is absolutely superb, easily the best Celtic book I have read, never mind published.

You can still get a signed copy with a personal dedication by emailing david@cqnpublishing.co.uk with the words you’d like Jim to add. He’ll be doing that next weekend and we’ll post them out straight away.

I’m away back to watch the PSG lookalikes ‘playing’ Dundee.

  19. Neg Glad you enjoyed Cork.

It is a nice spot & the natives are very friendly but as ever you will find a few langers knocking around.

Every City, Town & Village have them.

  20. Having watched about ten minutes of the Sevci game, I firmly believe that dundee will not lose this game. 0-0 is the likely outcome.
