Battle of the Lennons

917

It’s the battle of the Lennons at Celtic Park tomorrow with Danny enjoying the best run of form in his managerial career.  St Mirren are on 20 points, joint with St Johnstone, who they beat in Perth last month, and have already taken a point from Ibrox this season.  They are a technically sound team who will be more difficult to create chances against than Dunfermline were on Wednesday.  They can also play a bit.

Team formation will be enormously important for Neil Lennon.  This is the type of fixture he would previously select a 4-4-2, with two wingers, giving width to the game, but leaving a central two outnumbered by opponents who inevitably pack the middle of the field.  If Celtic persist with this strategy they’ll need to tighten up in the middle.

There is an interesting subplot to this weekend’s games.  Earlier this month there was a daunting 12 points between Celtic and Rangers.  A win for Celtic tomorrow would see that gap shrink to 4 points, with Rangers playing their game in hand away to Kilmarnock at lunchtime on Sunday.  As well as playing for three points tomorrow, Celtic have the opportunity to put pressure on Rangers.

I have to be honest, I have no time for U2. I find their music to be extremely repetitious and their lyrics deliberately contrived.

Bono is a pretentious non entity.

I haven’t heard of Paolo Freire, but I’ve just book marked him on Wikipedia and will read up on him tomorrow.

    I’m bollixed, have to sleep.

    I’ll leave with this thought…….

Lubo Moravcik was the greatest”two footed” player we ever had.

    Hail, Hail !!

  2. Margaret.

    This was your original post.

Well racism in the UK is not new. Lets not call it racism as that is inaccurate. Lets call it culturalism. Take for example the old prejudices within the constituent countries of the British Isles.

The Scots hate the English because of their rigid class consciousness.

The English actually admire the Scots for their lack of it.

The Irish admire the English because that’s who the Irish deep down want to be.

    Culturalism you see.

The Scots admire the Irish really because most of them believe we’re all Celts deep down except Huns who are an allele short in the DNA in the first place. Could be culturalism there too. I personally doubt it.

The English hate the Irish because deep down they think they are arse kissers.

The Irish hate the Scots because we remind them of who they really are.

DNA you know ye canny change it!

BelfastCityCelt and I have both called you out on it, specifically your comment The Irish admire the English because that’s who the Irish deep down want to be.” and you haven’t explained it. You’ve flushed me out, so stop pulling my chain and answer these questions.

    – How do the Irish want to be English?

    – do you really believe the Scots really lack a class consciousness?

Dont they? Ones I meet seem to.

I was not aware that there is Larkhall allele loose in Ireland. Maybe you should beat some more drums.

  4. You’ve already provided a monotonous recurring motif, drumming is not what I need.

Perhaps you should take up archery.

If you had your wits about you you’d know I dont believe any of it.

There is only one thing worse than a scot taking themselves too seriously and thats an Irishman woman person. Point proven I think. Shall we move on?

The point I was really trying to make (which you didnt get) is that genetically there is no difference between Irish English and Scots at a DNA level. The use of the word “racism” when applied in the context of anti-Irish sentiment in Scotland is drivel.

It happens too frequently and cheapens the genuine racism that goes on.

Its cultural. The Irish and Scots are as genetically distinct as Aberdonians are from Dundonians.

    Are we clear yet?

  6. lies, deceit, spin and denial……..just another day at Ibrox

Rangers now claiming Aliko never paid the transfer fee, he only paid a fraction. Rangers now claiming they are as big as Juventus.

    Q..from Scottish Media…..What % did Rangers pay

A…From Mc Coist…..I’m not telling you

Q…Asked if Rangers had paid the bulk of the cash…

A….‘You could argue yes, you could argue no. The fact we are paying him a wage would determine the money is coming from somewhere.

jeez, what next…a return to the Murray tactic of quoting numbers in whatever currency makes it seem like a bigger deal !!

This is a club who have absolutely no conception of shame

  7. Archery is so much better than drumming. Shoot your arrows at these simple targets.

What defines race? What defines racist?

Is fk off Paki racist, while fk off Paddy is not? What about fk off Jock?

“No Blacks No Irish No Dogs.” Racist; Culturalist; merely a matter for the RSPCA?

Is racism purely a matter of genetics?

Is “culturalism” your way of euphemising “banter”?

  11. I can’t wait for izzie to get back, not just for him but to give ledley a proper run in midfield.

  12. Sorry I missed this wee discussion earlier.

When you take politicians and meeja monkeys out of the equation, we’re all actually very similar in thought. Simple as that.

One major factor that might affect behaviours is how much control the aforementioned [insert expletive of your choosing] have over us all.

As an example I cite the English, the majority of whom (and I’ve met many) are pleasant, intelligent, and as socialist as the rest of us.

The Scots blame the English for the problems that the Scots gave themselves. The Irish suffered at the hands of the same kind of Scots who did the bidding of the British Empire (run by politicians, bankers, and the meeja).

The same kind of Scots are the ones who will blast out Flower of Scotland one week while singing TFS the next.

Such is Scotland, the heart of our woes. A misguided country, historically one of the easiest countries for politicians and meeja monkeys to manipulate. Sad but true. Most other countries in the planet have managed to form their own identity without being so easily manipulated.

Scotland is one disturbed place and has a lot of apologising to do for it’s substantial role in some shameful history. The Triangular Trade (slavery), the KKK, Rednecks, Huns, the Black n Tans, the Six Counties. Scotland was the pivotal force in all of these things, plus others.

Ironically, Scotland also an fantastic history of rebellion, socialism, charity, and the desire for equality.

These contrasting attributes are worth considering. Why do one set of people relate more closely to the former, while the other set relate more closely to the latter?

A very confused country. Also one of the earliest examples of the British Empire Divide and Rule success(?) story, in which it played a major part thereafter. The Frankenstein’s Monster of the British Empire (the popular notion, not Mary Shelley’s) , as is evident today.

Thank God for Celtic FC, as it would be much much worse without.

Can’t believe she posted that link.

Is she Gregory Campbell in disguise?

Maybe she is a re-incarnation of George Seawright?

Perhaps she is simply trying to be controversial, trying to be smart,or to put it more bluntly – ripping the pish.

Whatever it is,it is not funny.

    Anyway,Celtic for the victory.

    Over and out.

  14. Margaret McGill,

Your words (haven’t read back enough) that tarrant quoted at 03:37

…are an acute observation of general attitudes amongst the British Isles and Ireland (generally speaking).

You maybe missed out the feelings of the Six Counties though, where folk have their own attitudes, (in some regards more relevant due to recent history), and that’s why there’s been some dispute.

Am sure you know of it yourself – it’s evident here, and it’s evident wherever you go in Ireland, that the folks in the Six Counties were left to deal with it (again generally speaking) from all external peoples.

And you’re also right (as is KevJ) that Scotland is in serious danger of going down a similar path.

A reminder to those attacking you, is that the divide and conquer rule is still at play there, and it’s being poured upon us here in Scotland as the UK is in danger of breaking up.

    Simple as that.

  15. “I think the more wins we get, the more they will come back,” said the 20-year-old, who scored the second goal to take his tally for the season to seven.

“The fans were really good and backed us the full game, maybe getting a wee bit nervous in the last 10 minutes.

“We obviously missed a few chances which doesn’t help and maybe that rubbed off on the fans a wee bit.

“We made it tougher than we should have.

“We could have scored about eight goals in the first half but we gave them a lifeline in the last 10 minutes

Well said Stokesy, its all about the players

  16. Obviously the following wasn’t written by an Irishman and for that reason I’ll take a benevolent view and dismiss it with the contempt it deserves.

The Irish admire the English because that’s who the Irish deep down want to be.

    God preserve me pseudo intellectuals.

Fans held over alleged chants at Celtic Park

Four football fans have been arrested over alleged racial chanting at a match, police said.

The arrests follow Wednesday’s Celtic v Dunfermline game, where it is alleged a small group of Dunfermline supporters were making the comments towards the home fans at Celtic Park. The Glasgow team won the match 2-1.

The men, aged 22, 20 and two 19-year-olds, were arrested in Dunfermline yesterday. They are all expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The arrests follow a joint investigation between officers from the newly formed Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland, Strathclyde Police and Fife Constabulary.

Superintendent David Brand said: “This operation again demonstrates the close working partnership between the new national unit and Scottish forces to eradicate sectarian, racial or offensive songs at football matches across Scotland.

“It also sends a clear message to offenders that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

He added: “We will continue working in close liaison with our colleagues across Scotland to crack down on those minority fans that are intent in engaging in this type of behaviour.”

Dunfermline’s safety officer, Kenny Arnott, said: “Dunfermline is a family friendly club and we welcome actions which will improve the experience for people attending football games.”

New regulations to crack down on “offensive or sectarian” singing at football matches is likely to be brought in next year after MSPs passed the raft of measures at Holyrood earlier this week.
