Bitton deal, here’s an idea, just repay Mikes’ loan

475

Very pleased to hear Nir Bitton has signed a contract until 2020. Five years is an astonishing extension for a player who is clearly heading in the right direction. It gives Celtic assurance that they don’t need to worry about a key player’s contract running down for the foreseeable future.

Nir was the first manifestation of Ronny Deila’s player-improvement work. At the start of last year he was little more than a squad addition, a bit like Leigh Griffiths, but he’s since excelled in domestic and European football, as well as for Israel in the Euro qualifiers.

Let’s see if he can continue to improve.

I note the media going ‘a bit Tonto’ over Sports Direct’s insistence that the Rangers Former Players Benevolent Fund stop using trademarks they own. I know this will make many people swallow hard, but’s be clear, if the Celtic Former Players Association were selling merchandise bearing the Celtic crest the club would be saying “Cease and Desist that right now, Joe”. Same is true if you are a fan selling T-shirts or street vendor selling scarves.

Without making moral judgements, football clubs earn money from licensing their logos, you want to use it, you pay. You don’t pay, the club cannot discriminate between who they pursue and who they don’t, as such discriminatory behaviour would be a legitimate defence in law by a transgressor.

Sports Direct own thousands of logos and brands. They will have a department sweeping for infringements and they don’t strike me as the kind of company who let any slip through without action. I’d be amazed if Mike Ashley, or any senior SD staff, were even aware of the action.  Cease instructions will come out from the legal team without a second thought.

What remains galling to some is the fact that Newco have to take instructions from Sports Direct on use of logos and other IP. This, on top of the whole Fifa 2016 indignity, could be ended by repaying the Sports Direct £5m loan.

Why wouldn’t they stop the embarrassment and just pay Mike his money? He’s not going to cut a new deal, no positive accommodation is ever going to happen, all that lies ahead is more embarrassment, and the risk of Ashley taking genuinely draconic action to recover his loan.  I’m sure they money’s there to repay, right?

Fair point. So technically they’d end up on 0 points in the league.

How does that apply to cups? They wouldn’t have passed the 1st round, so they wouldn’t be in the final to lose it 3-0.

TURKEYBHOY. Any business that posts losses can only keep going if they have access to funds to cover the losses if they dont they are not going to last long. The Rangers seem to be flying in the face of normal business procedure.I can only come to the conclusion they are getting funding from some where. H.H.

  4. As a small shareholder andwell known CQN Board Basher, I call on DD and PL to tell us in plain language how they are going to recoup money and trophies we were cheated out of.

  6. Every game the Huns played with EBTs would have to be awarded 3-0 to their opponents. That is football law for cheating, breaking the rules. There can be no arguments about this. How this pans out over the course of the seasons, should then be taken into account. We have all witnessed the disgust, the headlines, the contempt from fellow sportsmen and women, that past sports cheats have suffered.Their titles have been stripped, and they were banned/suspended from the sport.

The sheer scale of this cheating dwarves anything before in Britain. It should be treated with the headlines and investigations it merits. The mind actually does boggle when the outcome of this fraud is taken to a conclusion.Trophies won,Leagues won, prestige gained, enabling sponsorship deals to be won.Participation in the then era of no qualification in the lucrative Champions league. All of this depriving their opponents of the millions of £s on offer and therefore unable to compete.

As I said, this is a sporting scandal, the likes of which has never before been seen in Britain, and should be treated as such.

  7. Australia to Host Old Firm Derby.

8:11pm EST Nov 4th 2015 Courier Mail Adelaide : Soccer news

ADELAIDE to host Celtic and Rangers — the oldest rivalry in world soccer.

The Old Firm clash has been proposed for the Queen’s 90th Birthday in June 2016

Talks with Peter Lawwell and new Rangers supreme Dave King that have been going on for months are finalised with a date to be set this week.

The friendly is bound to have unprecedented world-wide coverage given the two Glasgow-based sides have only met in one fixture since April 2012.

Former Rangers defender Stuart Munro who was a former Perth Glory assistant coach, boss of South Melbourne and Parramatta Power said the proposed clash would be massive for Australia. Munro says he featured in perhaps 20 Old Firm clashes.

“It’s a massive fixture,’’ Munro said

“The derby is so important in Scottish football that it determines the working week for a lot of people in Scotland, either they’d be bragging about their club winning or hiding in the toilets because their side lost.”

The proposed Old Firm clash is sure to attract global attention for the $535 million redeveloped Adelaide Oval.

Andrew Daniels chief executive officer of Adelaide Oval’s SMA stated the venue is perfect for soccer but would comment with regards to the proposed fixture.

“While we won’t comment on specific events before they’re confirmed, I can reaffirm that the Adelaide Oval is committed to exploring any and all opportunities to host major events whenever we can,’’ Daniels said.

But SA has a huge fight on its hands in a bid to win the titanic match.

It’s understood the Celtic and Rangers match — the first time the match is proposed to be played outside of Scotland — has also attracted key interest from America and Qatar

In 2012 Rangers were relegated to Division 3 and Rangers had to apply to the Scottish league system to play in the same strip that Rangers had always payed with in Scottish football.

But Rangers is making its way back towards the top flight in Scotland and could be back in the Scottish Premiership next July

While Celtic this year should claime its 46th title

Rangers will be playing in the Championship this season — a division below Celtic.

A spokesman for Celtic stated a Old Firm Derby is Box office and that’s what we want to give our worldwide fan base.

    Spot in.

Additionally the LNS decision was based totally on legal ebts being used and was only possible because

    A) LNS decided the DOS ebts and BTC ebts shared the same legal status. They didn’t but LNS did not know because

    B) RFC Administrators failed to provide the specified evidence to Harper MacLeod that would have made it clear DOS ebts were illegal and

    C) Campbell Ogilvie who was Secretary to the Remuneration Board that instigated the DOS ebts in 1999 made no mention to LNS of the difference in ebt types in spite of being a later recipient of the BTC type.

    His tea must be oot.

  9. Quonno

It’s much bigger than Celtic. Other clubs lost money too but RFC are in liquidation.

There will be a lot of negotiating but top requirement for me is SFA get replaced with something more fit for purpose.

  10. NEWRADBHOY on 4TH NOVEMBER 2015 12:07 PM

Wonder if this gives LNS a chance to save face.

He could sieze the moment and say he was duped.

He could then revisit his verdict and stick it right uppem.

After all he must have been raging when he found out after, that sandy Bryant etc

    had stung him.

    ========

LNS and SPL lawyers were sent evidence they were duped by SFM contributors in 2014. There is a series of blogs on it that I’ll link to later.

Neither LNS nor SPL responded although SPL lawyers passed papers to SFA who also failed to respond.

However I think they had better start now thinking about coming clean instead of hoping it would all go away.
