Rumours circulated last week that is was Sepp Blatter who leaked the million or so emails to The Sunday Times, allowing them to uncover previously hidden payments between Fifa delegates at the time of the Qatar 2022 vote. That looks fanciful in the face of Blatters tub-thumping, that criticism of the voting process is motivated by racism.
The motivation behind The Sunday Times is irrelevant, Fifa is either corrupt or not. Blatter is indulging in the ancient art of Ad hominem, rejecting a claim not on its own merits, but on an irrelevant facet of the person making the claim. Sony, Adidas and others have led the way is asking for proper oversight of Fifa to protect their brands being damaged by association. This is all very well but by postponing any disclosure until after the forthcoming World Cup, Fifa have years to allow sponsor angst to dissipate. Expect nothing to change.
What a fascinating wee story that the SFA are considering leaving Hampden to Queens Park to maintain and ‘fill’ with a few hundred spectators each game. If this is a bargaining position to force Queens into cutting a generous deal, fair enough.
In the event the SFA decide to move away from Hampden, it’s worth keeping an eye on the stadium. Those who appear intent on driving Newco Rangers into liquidation could do with a spare stadium in Glasgow, just in case the current owners of Ibrox do not succumb to manipulation.
On the subject of that lot, Dundee United’s Stephen Thompson’s playing a blinder. Not only is he cherry-picking their youth talent but he’s also raised the inconvenient fact – Newco Rangers is a two year old football club. Follow the money on this one.
Well done to BBC Alba and Alex O’Henley for the outstanding Jock Stein documentary last night. It’s difficult to add much to the Stein story after all these years but they managed to do so. The level of detail contained therein was remarkable, and it was nothing short of astonishing that we heard first-hand testimony on Jock playing for Blantyre Vics.
If you’re short of a Father’s Day gift, Tommy Gemmell, Bertie Auld and John Hughes will be signing copies of their books at the Celtic Store in Argyle St from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday. Three Lions, one venue, bring your camera.
It’s also an enormous privilege to announce that after we hosted a live chat session with Willie Wallace last year and Tommy Gemmell last month, Bertie Auld will be live on CQN from 1pm this Friday. Bertie is the strong silent type, so you’ll need to prepare a few questions to bring him out of his shell.
Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best, freshly signed by the man himself this morning.

New away strip is braw…….I see the knife are out for Blatter ……. NOT SURE EITHER WAY ON THAT ONE….did Qatar bribe officials, or is it racism..? Nothing changes, that’s the only sure thing……RIGHT, BACK TO WORK …..HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
67Heaven- FIFA’s own technical advisory committee , which looks at the technical merits of each bid, were against the WC going to Qatar.
It seems that rather than face the threat to the credibility of his own organisation posed by the greed of its own hierarchy Blatter plays the race card.
THey are stealing the game.
Don’t watch the World Cup.

I hated Fergus McCann for (my understanding of) how Tommy Burns was treated in the mid 90′s, but forgot about it rather quickly when we won the 97-98 league… tears always turn into cheers as a Celt.

I know what yer saying fella but, Celtic’s first title in 9 years and, Fergus slips oot the back door, rather than tie down the management team who delivered this success.
Absolute p#sh that the MD has to ‘sneak’ out of the stadium that he ‘helped’ the Celtic fans to build and at the same time, instead of cementing the success by putting, Wim & Murdo before his, ‘self preservation’ and announcing that the Celtic were back, by getting the Champion management team onto the same page as the fans….Fergus ordered the Celtic fans into the wilderness for the next two seasons, by putting a wedge between – himself and his calamitous sidekick CEO Jock Brown v’s the Celtic fans and their Champion managers and players.
Unforgivable!!! imho
P.S. Will anybody have the courage to ask Fergus if he can sleep at night knowing that, in his own mind, that he did ‘everything’ possible to preserve Mr Steins 9 in a row record, without using EBT’s as an excuse?

What hope is there globally, when, in our own little Scotland, the ‘favoured” ones have been zombified to keep them in their fictitious existence…..
I think the new away tap is a cracker.
We have had some shockers in recent years but this one is well put together and rather than flashes of colour here and there it looks very stylish. I reckon this will be a huge seller abroad. Nike have down their homework on this one.
Watched the Jock Stein documentary last night. Very emotional. Well done to Alba and Alex O’Henley for a superb piece of television. It puts other channels to shame.
I always thought Scottish football was ruined by Rangers and Sounness and while that is true to an extent it probably started to rot when Jock Stein died. You could see what he meant to lots of people and the respect he had from the football community. Jock Stein was Scottish football he put Scotland on the map globally.
No matter what they have been previously or what they have done in the past I have huge admiration for both Sounness and Archie MacPherson. I have always been a fan of Archie. His football knowledge is excellent and he has written some superb football books in his time. I also loved his commentary and think BBC are missing a trick with their bland commentators not making use of the finest commentator in Scotland even done to the Whooof when a shot is fired off. I remember him once describing a Henrik Larsson goal I think in Europe along these lines Larsson comes in and Whallop. Who could forget the commentary for the provan free kick in 1985 at the cup final. It’s fair to say whether he is or was a Rangers man I have always liked Archie. Sounness obviously had the deepest respect and admiration for Stein and I have never seen him look more humane. He is a fierce competitor. He would kick a child out the way to score a goal or win the ball when playing but he should his emotion last night. I respect and admire Sounness for the glowing terms in which he spoke about Jock Stein. You could see how much it affected him.
Well done Alba hopefully more to come from this cracking wee channel.

The thanks are due to Teuchter and Lymmbhoy.
I also found the program very moving.
You reasoning quite accurate.
A death in the family was the best description.
I always liked Archie McPherson. To me he was one of those guy swho you knew was a Rangers supporter but never a Hun.
My first memory of him was as an 8 year old.
My granda knew some people who worked in the media and had got us seats in the press box at Hampden, the big, black and white contraption that in hindsight always looked rather precariously perched above the Main Stand.
It was Scotland v Argentina and wee Maradona scored his first international goal that day in a 3-1 victory for the South Americans.
Archie was sitting in front of us and I only found out who he was because I constantly had to move from side to side as a result of his flapping barnet.
I think the new away strip is in tune with the PLC.
It is pish stained! Only made palletable due to the badge placed on the breast.
Seriously, I think the club could come out with a curry stained rag, put a badge on it and some of you fools would still lap it up. Yeez are nutters of the highest pre ordained order.

There you go again. A fairly straightforward story about National treasure Archie McPherson attending a football game. But you couldn’t resist making yourself the main focus could you? Narcissistic personality disorder.

‘Yeez are nutters’……….fae you……..that’s a compliment..right?
Some people will complain about anything.
What does the jersey have to do with the PLC?
For all those who hate the PLC so much, what’s the alternative? Take one look at “more than a club” FC Barcelona and you will see a club ran by politically minded rich men with their hands dirty with Qatar and the Neymar transfer

Oops, there I go again, all about me :-)
Finally got to see the new “away” strip.
A tartan element which pleases those of us who are quite contentedly Scottish.

Correct!
Celtic can do no right in the eyes of some people on here.
Have you seen some of the away jerseys in world football right now? I think we have quite a classy jersey on our hands which will be a huge seller.
