Rumours circulated last week that is was Sepp Blatter who leaked the million or so emails to The Sunday Times, allowing them to uncover previously hidden payments between Fifa delegates at the time of the Qatar 2022 vote. That looks fanciful in the face of Blatters tub-thumping, that criticism of the voting process is motivated by racism.
The motivation behind The Sunday Times is irrelevant, Fifa is either corrupt or not. Blatter is indulging in the ancient art of Ad hominem, rejecting a claim not on its own merits, but on an irrelevant facet of the person making the claim. Sony, Adidas and others have led the way is asking for proper oversight of Fifa to protect their brands being damaged by association. This is all very well but by postponing any disclosure until after the forthcoming World Cup, Fifa have years to allow sponsor angst to dissipate. Expect nothing to change.
What a fascinating wee story that the SFA are considering leaving Hampden to Queens Park to maintain and ‘fill’ with a few hundred spectators each game. If this is a bargaining position to force Queens into cutting a generous deal, fair enough.
In the event the SFA decide to move away from Hampden, it’s worth keeping an eye on the stadium. Those who appear intent on driving Newco Rangers into liquidation could do with a spare stadium in Glasgow, just in case the current owners of Ibrox do not succumb to manipulation.
On the subject of that lot, Dundee United’s Stephen Thompson’s playing a blinder. Not only is he cherry-picking their youth talent but he’s also raised the inconvenient fact – Newco Rangers is a two year old football club. Follow the money on this one.
Well done to BBC Alba and Alex O’Henley for the outstanding Jock Stein documentary last night. It’s difficult to add much to the Stein story after all these years but they managed to do so. The level of detail contained therein was remarkable, and it was nothing short of astonishing that we heard first-hand testimony on Jock playing for Blantyre Vics.
If you’re short of a Father’s Day gift, Tommy Gemmell, Bertie Auld and John Hughes will be signing copies of their books at the Celtic Store in Argyle St from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday. Three Lions, one venue, bring your camera.
It’s also an enormous privilege to announce that after we hosted a live chat session with Willie Wallace last year and Tommy Gemmell last month, Bertie Auld will be live on CQN from 1pm this Friday. Bertie is the strong silent type, so you’ll need to prepare a few questions to bring him out of his shell.
Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best, freshly signed by the man himself this morning.

Film 4 @ 10.50- Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, great movie.
Fortunately/unfortunately swearing is easy to identify and deal with. The politics ‘stuff’ sits on a spectrum that’s far harder to identify definitively as offensive.
But just for the avoidance of doubt can I deliver my own personal double GIRUY. Firstly to mr tebbit. I failed your cricket test and supported the West Indies. And secondly to that old sadistic genocidal egotist, mr Cromwell.
I struggle to imagine two characters who are more of an antithesis to what Celtic stands for IMHO.

I felt exactly that emotion myself.
Maybe the Big Man was so big that even thoroughly unpleasant individuals realised his stature.

Aye..apart from his bigoted ex-pal .
Tebbit. A “semi-housetrained polecat”, in the words of Michael Foot.
Cromwell. A “genocidal abomination”, in the words of almost everybody.
New away kit?
I’m an old fart Hoops Bhoy myself….
…..but good to know so much attention to detail for snug fit for all us svelte CQN afleets!!
A NEW AND UPDATED PERFECT FIT
Nike took 3D body scans of many of the world’s leading footballers to create a kit with an updated and perfect new fit. The new fit allows the body to move more naturally within the kit, and so effortlessly improves players’ comfort and performance.

Sorry mate. It was a rubbish mobile phone signal gag.
More chance of the SFA moving to Ayebrokes ,than Sevco to Hampden.

Re the BBC Alba jockumentary….
Surprised some have been surprised at Graeme Souness’s reaction.
GS has been in awe and emotional every time I’ve seen his contributions in reviews and commemorations about The Big Man. And there have been several over the years.
I have some legitimate reasons for disliking GS but his rememberences of Jock over the years have been consistent and heartfelt and consequently he has my respect at least in that regard.
I guess it is a reminder that people are more than the 2D image we build through the prism of football loyalties.
(PS…I’d put Alex Ferguson in the same catagory)

No his ‘pal’ knew only too well…
That’s why he ran away!
Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles, and over the last four years Nike has diverted almost two billion of these bottles from landfills to produce their kits.

Any chance of making some from beer bottles ?

If John Collins get appointed as No2 to Ronny then for me it will be a good appointment. I don’t know too much about JC apart his time with us as a player and his brief but succesful spell with Hibs where on the face of it he appeared to improve the players he had at his disposal.
Over the years I’ve heard many comment on JC, what appears to get some people is his unflinching confidence in his own ability and his outgoing personality, which to be honest is at odds with a lot of us Scots who prefer to a more self deprecating personality.
One thing that I think he will help address is our fitness levels, am I the only one who thinks we wilted in the latter stages of games in last seasons CL? Some of our players appear as if they could benifit from losing a few pounds through a more vigorous approach to training, I hope JC is the man to address this.
Also if his approach isn’t liked by certain players I don’t think they will find PL siding with them as Petrie did with the Hibs squad.
On a totally unrelated issue I think the Serbian FA being taken to task by UEFA can only be good news for those persuing Res12, what’s the odds on a shredder outside Hampdump in the comming days?
Gents, you’re now discussing Tebbit and him.
By doing this he wins.

With you all the way. JC was a consumate pro when sherringham was pouring bottles of booze down gazza’s throat….and was the same when manager at Hibs and the leith young team were doing pretty much the same.
Huge focus on skill at fitness and football thinking if he comes on board. That said def want to see young john Kennedy feature prominently in our coaching future.
