Breaking down packed midfields

678

Celtic faced a familiar problem yesterday.  Hearts packed the midfield, which sat close to their defensive line, making it difficult for Celtic to get through, over or wide.  Their best chance in the first half actually came from a Hearts corner kick, one of the few occasions the visitors ventured forward.

Sure, we need to beat Rangers, but dealing with the challenge of teams sitting tight and packing midfield will be key to winning the SPL, and that starts at Perth on Sunday.  St Johnstone will not be in confident mood after their 0-3 pasting at home yesterday, so you can expect them to sit three central midfielders in front of the defence.

I don’t see things like yesterdays penalty as a minor moment. The referee in last weeks huns game altered the top of the league by two points. The ref yesterday tried to alter the top of the league by another two points. The laptop loyal won’t highlight these things so why shouldn’t we.

Reminds me of Lubo & Dr Jo against the Horrible Undignified Neds in 1998 – I don’t think they knew what they’d let themselves in for either. (Tony Warner in goal that day for us as well!)

Brings it all back. Just before leaving the car I heard Nicholas & Co in the Clyde studio anticipating a big hun victory. They started sniggering (trust me, they did) at the Celtic line-up. ‘No recognised striker’ was what they said.

They weren’t sniggering at 4.50. Larsson and Moravcik had done their best to compensate for the absence of a ‘recognised striker’.

Don’t support rangers so not bothered what happens in there games.Penalty went against us yesterday got 3 points life goes on.Before anyone starts going on about injustices cant let it happen,i agree but if you think debating the life out of it on Celtic blog is going to change anything your deluded.Fans not going to away matches, burning ref(penny for the guy) types at home games maybe.Talk is cheap walk the walk.

  14. PF, V etc. Yesterday I turned round to my mate after 3 minutes and said we will get f’ all today. The Linesmen yesterday at the jungle side was shocking. As I keep saying the wee decisions are the ones which kill you more than the big ones.

sorry you missed Jinky, surprised as your posts carry the gravitas of someone older, an assumption I have made in error. I caugt the tail end of Jinky and loved the wee man . I met him a couple of times outside CP and he always had a word for the fans. Henke was a different breed, more deference, a different person but a true Celtic legend (IMHO) . I was at the Armadillo for the “greatest ever Celtic team” night and had to explain to the bhoy why his big ugly father was weeping tears of joy a a bunch of football players. He`s older now and understands why. Nothing more needs to be said.

We won yesterday stop doing the journalist’s job and analysing everything,3 points game on.Maybe if most of you went to the game/or had a life you wouldn’t need to debate the death out of a minor moments.

    …………………..

LP there were two big moments yesterday at CP and naturally CQN’ers want to discuss it, are you the Gestapo or thought police, with respect :>)

Ps Celtic supporters don’t need to go to the game to be …. Celtic supporters, ergo we can discuss what we want without a roll call of were you at the game crap.

Lubo – looked almost embarassed by how easy he was making it look.

Dr Jo – I loved this guy. His expression was brilliant – ‘Did we just score again?’. Paul Lambert spoke highly of him – enough said.

Funny how some games are etched permanently into the brain. Yesterday had that feeling written all over it.

I too was a fan of Dr Jo, I remember how he filleted Keevins live on Clyde one Saturday afternoon. Keevins was carrying a torch for Mark Burchill and was demanding to know why he wasn`t selected for a match at Tannadice. Dr Jo calmly asked Keevins how many games Burchill had started that season, how many sub appearances and how many goals he had scored?

Our Flanders look a like said “that`s not the point” , Dr Jo said ” I know the answer and that is the point” 1 nil , giruy Sinex man.
