Breaking down packed midfields

678

Celtic faced a familiar problem yesterday.  Hearts packed the midfield, which sat close to their defensive line, making it difficult for Celtic to get through, over or wide.  Their best chance in the first half actually came from a Hearts corner kick, one of the few occasions the visitors ventured forward.

Sure, we need to beat Rangers, but dealing with the challenge of teams sitting tight and packing midfield will be key to winning the SPL, and that starts at Perth on Sunday.  St Johnstone will not be in confident mood after their 0-3 pasting at home yesterday, so you can expect them to sit three central midfielders in front of the defence.

paul67 your thoughts on the tactics a mile wide ( its only opinions of course :)))) ) thats whats great about your blog

we played the dreaded 4 -2 – 4 yesterday and handed the midfiled to hertz, result, very few scoring chances for our team

we then changed our middle 2 to Brown and Ki, but still made very little difference

we were very very lucky to get away with this, remember herz are another team that cant afford to buy players and pay the wages

but our lack of quality does not take advantage and the 4-2-4 allows lesser teams to give us problems neil :)

hooper?? he could have sat beside me on the lounge at 2am for all the contribution he made

love the talk about wanyama the amount of times he loses the ball is just shocking, and does he win headers? is that why he went in ala Anton like?

ok being a bit negative as is my norm :) but just trying see the wood from the trees

    Nice one.

When Real scored my heart sank I can tell you, and until Barca scored I was a worried man, once they equalised there was only one winner.

Best team on the planet by a country mile, even the Real fans were agreeing that, they were miffed at Jose btw, seems like many want him gone, a bit too arrogant for them, a good amigo was in tears last night, he was breaking his heart, his Mrs told me he would be inconsolable for weeks, but he still went to all the Barca fans and congratulated them one by one, brought a lump to my throat, true football fans and a joy to watch football with.

Did ok with MoN’s new team as well, got out of jail there me thinks.

I thought that Hertz only bagan to venture forward once Big Vic was moved back into the centre of defence. When he is in the middle our shaky back line isn’t as exposed. By moving him back the ‘shield’ was moved back.

Vic is the only one of our better players who hasn’t (that I’m aware of) been touted by the red tops for a move daah saff. Just wait until the next potentially embarrasing headline for our near neighbours and you can guarantee that Liverpool, Spurs etc etc etc will be lining up a ££££££££ bid for Big Vic.

Long time since I have heard someone calling a chimney a Lum, my Ma’s Ma used to call it a Lum, she is long gone and I miss her every day, she virtually brought me up when I was a kid.

Neil Young, again a long time no listen too, will rectify that soon.

I worked with a guy who is keevins’ nephew.

He told me one day that his brother stiffened flanders at a family wedding.

And yes it was simply for being so rabid anti celtic and pro hun.

He used to be a member of the clydebank csc according this guy and decided to sell his soul for membership of the LL.

Just one question before I go to bed

Why has pointing out that the ball isn’t on the penalty spot (ie cheating) being called ‘gamesmanship’?

    Ok 2 questions……

Why did the ref only do anything after it was pointed out????

    Confused CSC

I’m still no wiser re the “penalty”. From certain angles it looked like the Hertz player headed the ball, but all their players reacted as if Vic had touched it with his hand. Only he will know the answer to that!

MacLean sounded sick at the end of the highlights there….sweeeet!

My dad died in March this year. Loved him so much.

Anyways we were chatting some years ago and he mentioned his brother John who died at a young age and before I was born. He was sure of meeting John again and when I questioned him on that likelihood he said “well what’s the point of being here”.

I was and remain fine with that.

You may live on the other side of the world but you would fit in so well with many of the ‘abusers’ sat around me in the south Stand at Celtic Park yesterday.

25 mins gone and we are not ahead vs a team who came to stop us playing / scoring and they were at it with their negativity and hurling abuse at our players. Who needs Rangers, Referees or laptop loyal when those who claim to be supporters can do it for them.

Boos were audible from the back of the stand at HT as our team had beeen unable to get the breakthrough and then we even had abuse of Sammi as he sought to put pressure on the Hearts penalty kicker.

Hearts might be struggling financially but this is still a sporting contest which we need to win…..the kind which we have lost or drawn in the past when not together as a support and team……to the teams credit they came through and won, they will be stronger for that and even the 20 yr old who you seek to malign will continue to improve with his experience of playing with this burden of expectation on his shoulders….

Heaven help us if the Green Brigade is silenced and the moaners get back to the ascendancy they enjoyed in the GS era.

For now though SydneyTim you would fit in fine in the south stand with all the’experts’ in the game who know better than anyone.

Many similarities with the spl, the hun on top early doors and the good ghuys fighting back.

I think the good ghuys will finish on top of their respective leagues.

  19. Was waiting on Mclean saying Big Sammi was acting in a sinister fashion at the dubious penalty given

Deffo not a penalty came of the hertz players head you can tell that was the case by the pace of the ball if it was Vics hand or arm the ball would have been cushioned and travelled much slower than it did

Lads but all we seem to do is talk about referees and nothing gets done so surely there’s got to be something we can do.

The other thing is this, of we drew yesterday then we would be going nuts at that decision so we must keep up the pressure wae these refs at phone INS the lot and emailing the SFA.

  23. Burnley well said, too many detractors at Parkhead. The panic brigade must frighten the life out of some of the players.

To say his relationship with DM was icy hardly covers it. In this instance HK knew exactly what DM was and DM wouldn’t entertain HK for reasons you & I can easily guess.

Pity HK didn’t have the guts to publish what he thought/knew.
