BROONY THANKS TO EX-IBROX STAR

CELTIC legend Scott Brown had an ex-Ibrox striker to thank for his first win as manager of Fleetwood Town.

The former Hoops skipper, who took over the English third-tier side in the summer, saw his team level at 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle and only two minutes to play in his second League One outing.

Joe Garner, who scored the Govan outfit’s consolation goal when Moussa Dembele claimed a hat-trick in the 5-1 win for Brendan Rodgers’ men on September 10 2016, was the home side’s hero on this occasion.

The one-time Nottingham Forest and Preston forward claimed the points for Broony and Co when he nudged the ball over the line from close range in the fading moments.

WINNING SMILE…skipper Scott Brown celebrates Celtic’s five in a row in 2016. More titles were to follow.

Brown, 37, who made the move into management after quitting Aberdeen in March following his ill-fated move after 14 trophy-laden years at Parkhead, told Fleetwood TV: “Getting the three points is incredible and the lads’ work rate throughout pre-season has been great.

“Last week, I was a little bit disappointed with the second-half performance, but today’s performance was so different.

“The lads pressed them up the park and the work-rate for the 90 minutes was exceptional.

“It’s about the winning mentality now, it’s about making it hard for teams coming here as we are going to make them work. For us, this is a good step, but we know that there is more to offer.”
