Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

If my memory serves me right, there were not a few similar comments made about a funny moustacheiode gemtleman in Germany in the 20s who developed a twitch that caused his arm to rise like a railway signal. And he wasn’t dangerous at all!

Charles Green could be in for a rude awekenning from the hun hordes as they look towards Bomber Brown one of the peepil to rescue them. There will be plenty of newco fans who will not support Charles because his name is Green ( thats how bitter they are).It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Green may end up walking away for his own safety.H.H.

  6. On the Cowdenbeath angle. Don’t think for a minute that all Cooden fans are dyed-in-the-wool Huns.

Many are but many value the traditions of the Blue Brazil and Findlay would make himself very unpopular if he tried to revert to the Cowdenbeath Rangers title.

  7. sixtaeseven: No NewClub in SPL and it's Non-Negotiable! on

Why would they want to take over Cowdenbeath ( a first division club)?

Wouldn’t they be better acquiring the likes of Kilmarnock (SPL club) – assuming they cobbled enough cash together ?

Am I missing something – is that just a stupid suggestion?

    Happy to be set straight.

  8. Paul67,

You seem to have picked up a wee bit this afternoon compared to the last few days, any reason for it????

What now for the Green Newco, do you think the SFL clubs will say yes??? (why should they when the SLP have said no)

  9. PFayr – Buenas tardes amigo, all is well here in roasting sweltering hot Toronto. I’ve been lashing into the Rioja quite a bit recently. TET would be a better source for local wines as most of the stuff i get over here probably won’t be available over there:0) I was thinking earlier about how much you must be enjoying this today as you and i have similar views and perspective. The steak house will be able to sort you vino wise; perhaps a bottle of cava pre dinner just to toast the huns goodbye?

I’m sure Kilmarnock would be honoured to be taken over by R@ngers.

For them it would be like joining the moonies.

  11. When does ‘the official’ rankers site come down? Does that happen when BDO step in and they are ‘officialy’ dead? They still show all the arrogant sense of entitlement.

Ah well,it’ll sink in,even through their doubly dense craniums.

All,and I mean ALL,they can think is,”We’ll get yez fur wearrapeepil and we rool….hic…passuz ‘at BelAir Bomurrrrr…”

  12. It’s probably something lost in translation here, becouse our media say that Rangers were kicked out of the SPL. They were not promoted today, I think.

    And thanks again Paul67!

  14. The fans don’t own Cowdenbeath.

The club is owned by Alex and David Brewster, who are, wait for it, property developers.

It seems they bought the club with a view to developing the site and relocating the club but were caught out by the property slump, so they are now left with something of a white elephant.

It would obviously suit their purposes to sell if they could find a buyer.

    sfa/spl punishment for ebt/dual contracts.

hmrc big tax case result (to help reinforce the ebt punishment case)

doncaster/regan/ogi either resigning if they have a shred of decency or being removed by force by the spl clubs.

    Statement from Celtic Football Club

By: Newsroom Staff on 04 Jul, 2012 17:57

CELTIC Football Club today confirmed that it opposed re-admission to the Scottish Premier League by Rangers newco.

Today´s decision to refuse access into the SPL was an overwhelming one and demonstrates the depth of feeling amongst everyone involved in Scottish football.

Fundamentally, the Celtic Board has also been very mindful of the need to take what it believes to be the correct course of action in protecting the integrity of the game in Scotland

The matter is now within the jurisdiction of the Scottish Football Association and it will be for the SFA to decide on the future of Rangers newco.

Throughout the whole sequence of events leading up to today’s decision the Celtic Board has been of the singular view that the integrity of the game in Scotland is of paramount importance. Our only other consideration has been to protect the interests and right of the Club and our supporters.

Whilst the financial implications of today’s vote for Celtic and for the Scottish game as a whole will be very significant, we have already stated that Celtic has a business plan and strategy independent of any other club.

Our supporters can rest assured that we will continue to fight to protect Celtic’s best interests within the Scottish game.

In addition, we will be working with our other fellow SPL clubs in the days and weeks ahead to take all possible steps to maximise commercial returns, which remain crucial in these economically-challenging circumstances. We will also play an active role in mapping the future of Scottish football.

The fans are the lifeblood of the game and we know how strongly our supporters, and those of other clubs, felt about this issue.

We are confident that Celtic’s fans, together with the supporters of all the SPL clubs, will now play a major role in rallying behind their clubs to ensure that Scottish football emerges stronger from this episode.

During Celtic’s long and illustrious 125-year history, there have been periods of difficulty. At these times, our supporters have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Club. We need our supporters to be with us now, more than ever.

We know our own supporters will be acutely aware of the significant challenges that lie ahead. We enter next season as Champions of Scotland and look ahead to retaining our title and to making an impact in a European context. We know how difficult this will be and we call on our supporters to join us in tackling these challenges, to take their place at Celtic Park, to invest in the Club and to continue to give us the kind of support for which they are renowned. Everybody at this club is standing up for Neil Lennon.

STATEMENT ON ISSUE OF ITC’s TO PLAYERS

    Jack Ross

    4th July 2012

    http://pfascotland.co.uk/2012/news/statement-on-issue-of-itcs-to-players/

PFA Scotland Solicitor Margaret Gribbon of Bridge Litigation has today written to all English Premier League and Championship Clubs responding to Charles Green’s letter to them dated 29th June 2012.

Ms Gribbon stated “I have been furnished with a copy of Mr Green’s letter sent to English Clubs in their top two divisions and consider that it amounts to an attempt to deliberately misrepresent my clients position. I have therefore today sent a detailed letter to the Clubs setting out the facts and repeating our very firm legal view that Mr Green’s allegations of breach of contract are entirely without legal merit. My clients are free agents and I am pleased to note that several Premier League Clubs have already made applications to the SFA for International Transfer Certificates indicating that they attach little weight to Mr Green’s assertion that Sevco is entitled to seek damages for breach of contract”

“Furthermore it should also be noted that the SFA has confirmed that in the event of there being a dispute over registration the matter will be referred to FIFA. We can confirm that the SFA has today rejected to issue the registration for one of our clients to an English Premier League Club. The Club in question disputes the rejection and will now write to FIFA seeking their intervention. We expect a speedy response from FIFA.”

  24. Do you know now that the horrible wee bigotted kitman, with the ridiculously funny black hair, no longer has a club.

    I have now moved target.

I now look forward to the day the gates at ibrokes, the blue gates with huns football club on them, are torn down and taken to the scrapheap.

Just like the club that used to play there.

    Down with the gates!!

Great statement by the Celtic Board.

Now we all stand shoulder to shoulder or the doubting Thomas’s can ship out!
