Celtic 1-0 Motherwell

733

Motherwell fought tenaciously for most of the game at Celtic Park this afternoon but a momentary lapse was all that Georgios Samaras and Gary Hooper needed to settle the contest.  Celtic moved an astonishing 23 points clear at the top of the table and are odds on favourite to become champions before the next return to Celtic Park.

Samaras was first to show after 9 minutes when he latched onto a Matthews flick but Darren Randolph was quick off his line to block.  Player of the Year elect, Charlie Mulgrew, then jinked past a defender before slipping the ball to Samaras.  The Greek’s shot was block and Mulgrew blasted the rebound wide.  Randolph then saved well after Samaras shot from inside the D.

While Celtic always looked dangerous, Motherwell were in no mood to concede, so the goal was surprising in its simplicity.  Adam Matthews fired a throw-in to Samaras, who chested the ball into the path of unmarked Gary Hooper.  Hooper put his laces through the ball from a narrow angle to give Randolph no chance.

Samaras, Hooper and Forrest all had chances to finish the game off but the second goal never arrived.

Good defences are a lot harder to quantify than poor defences.  Today Celtic strolled through the game at the back.  No one was stretched and Fraser Forster didn’t have a save to make until the 77th minute.

    Dirtymac,

You need to be very wary. When women, of whatever age, seem to be dense as a sodden log, its invariably when they’re at their most dangerous. Before you know it you’re goin to have armfulls of cuddly toys, and apologising for not thinkin of it on your own.

You’re doomed to the sweetest hell known to man – that of having a daughter. Itll be the best thing that has ever happened to you. You’ll moan like hell, but this is where life starts.

My daughter is, and has always been, a source of pure joy to me… You’re very lucky, like me :)

Now, isn’t this an interesting read?

Just goes to show that some people do notice what is going on.

On another note, when I heard “Tony” on Shortbread tonight I kept thinking ” I know that voice…. I know that voice” but I just couldn’t place it. Given that I am in my bed with a stinking cold and full of drugs, it is not surprising that I don’y know my elbow from my Erchie….. but I should have cottoned on.

Anyway, I am reliably informed that “Tony’s” musical knowledge at the CQN Vanessa quiz night was rank and that he has rightly been taken to task for constantly boasting about his collection of Val Doonican and Bachelors LPs!

    His shoes were shockers too!!

It would appear that Ibrox is in meltdown in many ways, and at the risk of getting brickbats and other things thrown at me, I have to say that that is sad! Sad because Rangers as a football club did not set out to be the way it turned out, and sad because as we have all said before, there are many good and decent Rangers fans out there.

Celtic Football Club set out from the outset to be a force for good things— Thank God there have always been enough fans who wanted it too remain true to that vision, whereas across the city, for whatever reason, the club was stolen by those who were looking to exploit the worst possible sentiments and feelings or those who simply want to line their own pockets and to hell with society.

As Tony asked on Shortgread– “where do we go from here, how do we move forward?”.

If the big tax case goes the way I suspect. If there were two contracts which officers of Rangers PLC and the SFA deliberately subdued and fail to declare. If other teams and the Executive of the SPL were mislead and so on– then even the liquidation of Rangers PLC marjs the end of nothing…. in truth, it is just the beginning!

    Aye , it’s sad.

Obviously I can’t remember when things changed between the clubs, but I have read that the rivalry was what the MSM call banter up untill the time of the risings in Ireland.

Now I do not know if that is true, but I have read a few things from the time and it does appear that way.

Our club were percieved to support the Irish, hence Catholic side of things, hence they fell to the other side, aye a sad state of affairs, not our doing if I may say so, we were just collateral damage so to speak.

If I recall correctly it was all rather childish, they were jelous that we had something to cling on to, as you say, all very sad.

    BRTH,

In my dreams, i’m getting greedy. The gift that is the breakdown of rangers is no longer enough. I want the sfa and certain journalists as well.

I was never a conspiracy theorist, and i’m not one now, but this beast stinks way beyond rfc. I smell something rotten across the estates, people are running for cover and are heaping lie upon lie to cover their tracks

It used to pee me off big time when the Scottish press ran with stories of Rangers having enough quality players to field two teams.

One in Europe and the lesser good enough to win the Scottish league.

Now I watch as Celtic keep building and adding personnel with quality to their expanding playing staff.

  13. BRTH,

ta for that link, if i could just cut and paste an article from it, could comeone direct me to the Rangers hating website ?

Who can we Trust to run Rangers?

Posted on February 22, 2012 by williampoole

Earlier this week, I posted of the possibility of Martin Bain returning to Ibrox as Chief Executive.

Shocking as it is, the events that have led up to this situation where Rangers Chairman Craig Whyte is now Persona Non Grata amongst the Rangers support are remarkable.

While more revelations about Whyte’s tenure are breaking each day as the Administrators unravel a custodianship which is surely doomed, the drip feed of damning evidence about Whyte is intriguing.

The BBC, as long term adversary of the club, didn’t take kindly in to being forced to apologise to the club for inappropriate editing of an Ally McCoist interview.

It appeared that they licked their wounds and decided to make it personal on Whyte.

When Clydebank based Celtic supporter Mark Daly of the BBC presented a hatchet job on Whyte on the Panorama programme, there were a number of allegations that mirrored those on the now infamous Rangers Tax Blog, with a couple of extra ones thrown in for measure.

    Whyte threatened to sue.

    He didn’t.

    It spoke volumes.

The blog continued to publish allegations almost on a daily basis. Of course, it had been rubbished by Whyte, but carried on regardless.

    That also spoke volumes.

It began to become apparent that the blog had access to, or was being passed information from inside the club. Whether first hand, second hand or even third hand, it appeared to be coming from inside the club, and it’s final destination known by the first hand leak.

Interestingly, around the same time as Martin Bain was meeting the man alleged to be part of Paul Murray’s consortium, Douglas Park, a post appeared on Rangers fan forum by a senior poster and former Board member of an influential Rangers Supporters group, stating that “All Rangers fans should read the Rangers Tax Case blog, it’s true”.

Now how exactly this individual would know this is up for debate, but it certainly appears that this was more than an educated guess, and that said influential Rangers fan had been advised of this by a contact very close to the club.

The news of the Ticketus deal, and questions over HMRC issues facing the club were broken in the Daily Record by James Traynor on Jan 31, with information and quotes supplied by Paul Murray.

It seemed then that the gloves were off, and as more allegations and revelations have appeared in the Record, and on the BBC it has looked more and more like a sustained campaign by Murray and Alastair Johnston to stage what amounts to a hostile takeover.

While Whyte isn’t exactly covering himself in glory, and has almost certainly lied to various journalists and fan groups on the subject of Administration, those lining up to oust him are curiously in harmony with the Rangers haters at the BBC, The Daily Record and the Rangers Tax Case blog.

Have they been dancing with the devil, and sanctioned a leak of information to these individuals and organisations hell bent on damaging the club? I sincerely hope not

With some influential Rangers supporters’ groups challenging Whyte strongly over the last few weeks, and backing Murray’s “Blue Knights” proposed consortium, as the club has now dipped in to Administration, there are questions over how long this hostile takeover has been planned, who has been involved, and who, with links to the Trust or Murray, has been feeding the media.

This situation has been good for the Rangers Supporters Trust. As it stands, I understand they are processing hundreds of new memberships, at a tenner a pop. More on this later in the week

While the numerous revelations about Whyte are big news in Scotland, the suspicion that RTC, and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain are picking these stories up first in some cases casts a huge shadow over the prospect of Bain or Murray returning, and of the Trust’s enthusiastic backing of Paul Murray.

Murray of course was a Non Executive Director of Rangers during the period that many of Rangers financial issues were present. His official PR people, and unofficial supporters on FF, RM and VGB argue that Murray and Johnston were crucial in reducing the club’s debt to Lloyds from £32M to £18M, when the reality is that revenue from successful cup runs in Scotland and in European competition were the largest factors, with Lloyds absolutely strangling the club, and key players being sold.

The best summary of Murray’s time at the club comes from another Rangers hating site, Celtic Quick News, which pointed out several responsibilities of Murray’s former role at Ibrox, and how he failed to carry them out.

When long time Whyte defender David Leggat did a complete about turn on Whyte, it rang alarm bells with many bears who know him to have reliable contacts.

It raises the belief in long term supporters of Whyte that they have indeed been duped, but leaves a bad taste in the mouth that the likely replacements may well comprise of individuals who not only were present through Rangers decline, but actively toppled the current custodian by using bigoted anti Rangers activists in the process

Of course, leaks from within the club may be so common that there is more than one leak, and that there is absolutely no connection between the RTC, The Record, the BBC and any of those currently jostling for power at Ibrox.

I sincerely hope that this is the case, and that those leaking sensitive information from the club to outsiders are first to leave the club when the Administration task is complete.

    Bill.

  15. After watchin the highlights, courtesy of Naka i have to say that Murderwell were lucky to have 11 men on the pitch at 90. The tackle on Victor by Higdon? was potentially a seasonender. I want to see this team being a wee bit harder and not putting up with the hammer throwers of the SP-hell. I think Joe L is a natural for this as he reminds me of Sutton.

I also remember when the media used to say, during their 9iar, that the level in scotland was so bad that was the reason they failed in europe, aye they just happened to conviently forget about the scottish referees.

They were shite, always were, and always will be, their DNA does not allow them to play the game like it should be played.

  17. I haven’t been able to watch the game yet but as soon as I can I will. In the interim, is that run of consecutive wins now an official (FACT) record?

  18. @killieguyno1 WTF is wrong with you, who gives a shit about the result. What Celtic did for Liverpool that day was one of the biggest act of kindness in football history. To see all the Celtic supporters cheering the Liverpool players to help them ‘move on’ that is something special. Celtic will always have a space in my heart after that day, from a Liverpool Supporter.
