Celtic 1-0 Motherwell

733

Motherwell fought tenaciously for most of the game at Celtic Park this afternoon but a momentary lapse was all that Georgios Samaras and Gary Hooper needed to settle the contest.  Celtic moved an astonishing 23 points clear at the top of the table and are odds on favourite to become champions before the next return to Celtic Park.

Samaras was first to show after 9 minutes when he latched onto a Matthews flick but Darren Randolph was quick off his line to block.  Player of the Year elect, Charlie Mulgrew, then jinked past a defender before slipping the ball to Samaras.  The Greek’s shot was block and Mulgrew blasted the rebound wide.  Randolph then saved well after Samaras shot from inside the D.

While Celtic always looked dangerous, Motherwell were in no mood to concede, so the goal was surprising in its simplicity.  Adam Matthews fired a throw-in to Samaras, who chested the ball into the path of unmarked Gary Hooper.  Hooper put his laces through the ball from a narrow angle to give Randolph no chance.

Samaras, Hooper and Forrest all had chances to finish the game off but the second goal never arrived.

Good defences are a lot harder to quantify than poor defences.  Today Celtic strolled through the game at the back.  No one was stretched and Fraser Forster didn’t have a save to make until the 77th minute.

    What do we know?

    How do we know it?

I fear we are getting ahead of ourselves in our desperation to do the TFOD down.

Reality is being lost in all of this.

Hope is no substitute for proof.

Third party payment – where is the proof?

Second contracts are not illegal – ask SN.

EBTs were not illegal when they were set up – they should have been but they were not.

If we go in big we are the ones who could end up disappointed.

Better to take it one step at a time.

Please remember CW is worse than I could ever imagine as the owner of the TFOD.

Also DM is a bigger walloper than I could ever have imagined.

    Consequently keep it real.

Does that mean they should have been relegated in each of the last 10 – 12 years.

Are they now then in the west of scotland schools league?

By dint of your logic it also means that even a non-liquidated Rangers must start next season in Division 3.

If they have retrospectively lost every game then that would also mean they would be relegated each season they partook in EBT transactions.

  5. The Idiot hahahaha,

Looks like their home matches will be against the likes of Inter AC Real Spartak Bearsden Athletic FC or something similar.

There is also a story of a £400K payment made to Baldy Bain from SDM at time Huns were sold to Whyte. Duffers and Felped have passed info to police re. This to determine legalities.

I’m assuming this is the story Paul67 was riddling about in a previous article.

  9. Apologies for being thick but legalities leave me baffled. If the Huns are liquidated and a newco formed, what Happens to the debts? Are they wiped out and HMRC can sing for it? Would Ibrox and Murray park not be sold too?

I think if HMRC would pursue Newco for these debts. Newco has Rangers in its name, plays in blue at Ibrox etc

So I agree no Phoenix !

Do AC Milanda still play in the saturday Morning league?

Yes along with Real Madras and Aston Vanilla por cierto.

  13. Jock

I thought that must be the case. Everything I’ve read is HMRC can either accept a deal now but if Huns are liquidated, they will get nothing. Couldn’t understand that being the case if they had rangers in their name, played in same colours, played in same stadium etc. selling Ibrox would be the funniest thing for me!

Yeah would agree superb stuff, very reminiscent of Life of Pi.

  16. Forgive my ignorance

Would liquidation mean the assets are all sold to make good the debts?

The administrator would sell ibrox, Murray park etc, and pay the creditors with the nelson eddies they get for them?

Is that how it would work?

Does craig whyte own ibrox now through one of his companies?

    This is confusing.wonderfully, brilliantly confusing.

If they are liquidated, which I believe will happen, their assets will be sold to go towards the debt i.e. to pay the Creditors. So hypothetically, if their assets are sold for £20 million and their debt £50 million, £30 million would be written off.

  20. Morning all, long time lurker and occasional poster.

I’ve been lying here contemplating the events of the last few weeks and it reminds me of the feelings I had before, during and after the historic 6-2 skelping of the huns back in 2000.

The hope and anticipation for the new era that was (surely?) about to dawn with the arrival of MON.

The sheer joy and exhileration as the events of the day unfolded, from the 1st minute just knowing that you were witnessing history in the making. (Hampden in the sun was 2 years before I was born, too young to really appreciate ’67 and the best years of Jock’s Lions and 9IAR. This was my ‘I was there!’ time.)

The feeling of not wanting the final whistle to come just yet, never wanting it to end, just one more. Sharing that joy with my kids and hoping they too would have their own ‘6-2’ moments.

The bragging rights of the following days and weeks.

So what then, if they go under?

Will I miss them when they’re gone? Will it deny my children and grandchilden the joy of their own ‘6-2’ moment?

I, for one, am willing to sacrifice that and will content myself with the knowledge that, in the not too distant future, I can sit my young grandson, Daniel, on my knee and tell him that there used to be something called ‘Rangers’.

  21. Just to say…….

Tony, who called the Jim Traynor show yesterday….chapeau…..

A real surgical strike of a call. No ranting or raving just fact, fact, fact…….

The twitching at the SFA will be a lot more pronounced now.

  22. The Honest Cover-up on

Serious point here. With Rangers looking increasingly likely of going bust before the end of the season I hope Lawwell is taking appropriate measures with regard to our ticket allocation at Ibrox.

£42 is a lot of money for supporters, especially when we have spend small fortunes stocking up on Champagne, jelly and ice cream in recent weeks.

Perhaps we could ask Dunfermline to take the hit for our fans if the game doesn’t go ahead seeing as they are so minted.

  23. Good morning CQN’rs,

See that Super Hooper has said he didnt celebrate his goal yesterday because he was playing rubbish. I dont mind him never celebrating again if he continues to be as clinical when it matters.
