Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

648

Kilmarnock substitute Danny Racchi scored with a thunderous striker after 87 minutes to turn an otherwise pedestrian Celtic victory into a late drama.  Georgios Samaras scored a goal either side of half time to give Celtic the platform to secure a victory which moved them to within a point of the top of the table.

Victor Wanyama played in central defence, which left his midfield partner, Beram Kayal, bereft of a solid accomplice in midfield.  As a result, Kilmarnock found it easy to run through the Celtic midfield with Paul Heffernan and Dean Shiels causing problems.

Neil Lennon must have been wondering what he would need to do to spark Celtic into action after the break when Cha Du-Ri sprung clear on the right and threw in a high cross which Samaras attacked six yards out and headed into the net in first half stoppage time.

8 minutes after the break Samaras made it 2-0.  Gary Hooper collected a through ball on the right and knocked it into the Greek’s path.  Samaras looked to have lost the ball, which was caught between his feet, but he recovered, evaded some flaying defenders and cracked a left foot shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Kilmarnock looked well out of the game until Racchi’s late intervention but after they pulled a goal back Celtic looked rattled.  Celtic scarcely held possession for the remaining minutes and hardly put two passes together in three minutes added time.  Fraser Forster was forced off his line to challenge Heffernan with seconds remaining.  The keeper did well to block but the ball broke free to Dayton who failed to convert an excellent change to equalise.

  5. A very Happy Christmas to all CQNers. A lot more enjoyable occasion for the followers of the Hoops after todays results.

I thought the first half was even today, but totally controlled the second half until they scored. Kinda sensed the goal as the guy ran unchallenged and had time to release his shot.

Why oh why do we always make it hard for ourselves?

Loved the crowd cheering at letting us know what was happening down the road, you tend to forget the excitement this used to bring before TV dictated the fixtures.

Watched the huns game when I came in, the boy mcculloch elbows is the player who was earlier booked for decking him, also mclafferty should have walked also, a terrible tackle from another scumbag of a player.

    The heat is on thems.

With the tax issues soon coming to light and our sudden reamergence I think thinks are going to get a bit nasty down ipox way.

Lets get another win on Wednesday, without being to complacent, and

Get it right up the lot of them.

A few coronas beckons soon, after my grandaughter sets off for bed.

I hope you and yours have a very happy Christmas. Thank you for all the work you do to bring us Celtic Quick News – without doubt the Premier Football Forum in the world.

A very Happy Christmas to all Celtic supporters at home and abroad. Thanks to all CQNers for your contributions which makes this blog so unique and enjoyable.

Happy Christmas to Neil, his staff and all our Celtic players for working so hard to claw their way back into this title race. We should go on to win it if we apply ourselves and avoid complacancy. Ignore Rangers and their woes and concentrate on our own efforts and everything will come good.

Was at the game today. We totally dominated Killie without being brilliant. Congratulations to Georgios Samaras. I’m slowly becoming a fan after being a huge critic. I don’t mind apologising and hoping that Georgios has a brilliant season. I thought he was fabulous today and scored two great goals. He is obviously a confidence player and to keep him on top form we need to get behind him and show our appreciation of his efforts.

I’ll be there on Wednesday and hope we can kick on and secure a great victory to take Celtic to the top of the League. I think that’s where we deserve to be.

Don’t have to wish my fellow tims a happy Christmas either……todays results ensured that for us. I won’t have to wish any of you guys a happy new year either because Wednesday will bring us a great new year.

    Good night and God bless.

  18. Thank you santa for your 2 wonderful gifts today.

I’ve been a very good boy though so can I ask you for 1 more.

Can you arrange for the businessman with wealth off the radar to complete his asset stripping venture and to take the club he’s supported all his life, or at least since he’s had a wee bit of cash, into administration ?

I’m sure all those years ago when he first attended a game at Ibrox he could never have imagined he’d be able to take them to the wall for a few pieces of silver and to erase over 100 years of history. A true custodian of the club and a chairman fitting of the team and the fans.

Oh, and as a wee Brucie bonus can you get him to appear in court again a few time to show just what and outstanding member of the community he is. The man just keeps on giving. In fact if I didn’t know better I’d think Mr Whyte was Santa himself.

Kilmarnock away – scoring against them shouldn’t be a problem.

    Dunfermline home – surely.

Hibs away – could be a hard one with a new manager rallying them but 3 expected.

    Inverness home – three expected.

St Mirren away – another possible hard one.

I’d say thats a good run to take maiximum points from, although taken nothing for granted it would put massive pressure on the mhanks if we could.

They also have quite an easy run up with dundee utd away and hearts home possible slip ups, after inverness that is.

Realistically speaking we SHOULD win all of these, meaning at least a nine point gap going into game at Scumdome on Dec 28, and that’s presuming they don’t drop any points.

Not discounting Motherwell here, they visit Ibrox on Jan 2nd.

We win these 8 games and league is all but over.
