Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

648

Kilmarnock substitute Danny Racchi scored with a thunderous striker after 87 minutes to turn an otherwise pedestrian Celtic victory into a late drama.  Georgios Samaras scored a goal either side of half time to give Celtic the platform to secure a victory which moved them to within a point of the top of the table.

Victor Wanyama played in central defence, which left his midfield partner, Beram Kayal, bereft of a solid accomplice in midfield.  As a result, Kilmarnock found it easy to run through the Celtic midfield with Paul Heffernan and Dean Shiels causing problems.

Neil Lennon must have been wondering what he would need to do to spark Celtic into action after the break when Cha Du-Ri sprung clear on the right and threw in a high cross which Samaras attacked six yards out and headed into the net in first half stoppage time.

8 minutes after the break Samaras made it 2-0.  Gary Hooper collected a through ball on the right and knocked it into the Greek’s path.  Samaras looked to have lost the ball, which was caught between his feet, but he recovered, evaded some flaying defenders and cracked a left foot shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Kilmarnock looked well out of the game until Racchi’s late intervention but after they pulled a goal back Celtic looked rattled.  Celtic scarcely held possession for the remaining minutes and hardly put two passes together in three minutes added time.  Fraser Forster was forced off his line to challenge Heffernan with seconds remaining.  The keeper did well to block but the ball broke free to Dayton who failed to convert an excellent change to equalise.

If they do remain seated and state that you incurred a war wound in Iraq due to the fact you didnt have the correct PPE due to certain companies not paying their taxes……..

Typical cowardly assault by laugherty but he won’t be reviewed as his team were a already unfairly punished in same game.

That coward is very deliberate who he chooses to assault and its usually not the tougher ones.

Hesquealed like a stuck pig when Broony gave him a sore one and conveniently stayed out of range the rest of game.

As a tough guy and footballer he is an imposter.

  4. While I/We obviously enjoyed today…

But, If we play like that (today) against the Hun, I will gladly take a point!

    We were shocking today.

I don’t care how bad they were (never seen it) but, we were shocking defensively today for the whole 90 mins.

Merry Christmas to you all – even the Sammi-doubters and those who accuse me of Hunnery…

My uncle was on the phone tonight from Canada jubilant – we both agreed nothing our family have to offer tomorrow will compare to the gift we received today. He tells me he was watching the Huns on Tele – when in the process( at 1-1) of switching to Celtic TV (they get games live over there)..as he hears a roar from Celtic fans and thinks to himself – ‘Scotland is behind Canada’..little knowing that the roar was in fact celebrating goal number 2 …brilliant!

Merry Christmas to all who post and lurk on Celtic Quick News.

Here`s hoping that Celtic start 2012 on top of the SPL table.

Paul67, it was Willie Waddell who made the comment that if Rangers get beaten the fans go home and beat up their wives.

He was filmed making this comment in an obscure documentary called “The Old Firm”; I believe that it was filmed in the 1970s by a German student and was released twenty years later. There may be excerpts from it on Youtube.
