Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

648

Kilmarnock substitute Danny Racchi scored with a thunderous striker after 87 minutes to turn an otherwise pedestrian Celtic victory into a late drama.  Georgios Samaras scored a goal either side of half time to give Celtic the platform to secure a victory which moved them to within a point of the top of the table.

Victor Wanyama played in central defence, which left his midfield partner, Beram Kayal, bereft of a solid accomplice in midfield.  As a result, Kilmarnock found it easy to run through the Celtic midfield with Paul Heffernan and Dean Shiels causing problems.

Neil Lennon must have been wondering what he would need to do to spark Celtic into action after the break when Cha Du-Ri sprung clear on the right and threw in a high cross which Samaras attacked six yards out and headed into the net in first half stoppage time.

8 minutes after the break Samaras made it 2-0.  Gary Hooper collected a through ball on the right and knocked it into the Greek’s path.  Samaras looked to have lost the ball, which was caught between his feet, but he recovered, evaded some flaying defenders and cracked a left foot shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Kilmarnock looked well out of the game until Racchi’s late intervention but after they pulled a goal back Celtic looked rattled.  Celtic scarcely held possession for the remaining minutes and hardly put two passes together in three minutes added time.  Fraser Forster was forced off his line to challenge Heffernan with seconds remaining.  The keeper did well to block but the ball broke free to Dayton who failed to convert an excellent change to equalise.

My mother was brought up in care in a convent in Rutherglen in the 50s.. A hard gig. She fostered children when I was younger by way of payback and it too was a hard gig emotionally.

My mum has done well getting on in the world buying property, happy marraige raising two sons and paying for University educations etc… She attributes it to the folk who gave her a chance when she was young, the folk who took her out of the convent occasionally and showed her a different life.. It gave her something to aspire to..

My eldest (10) confessed a couple of weeks ago that she no longer believes in Santa.

Now I know that in todays day and age I should be grateful that she got to this age but her auld man was distraught. Thankfully, her younger sister’s head is in la la land and will probably still be believing when she’s 20! :-)

    Aaah the Lions!

I remember the Lions, and the lambs who preceded them. The lambs that Jock transformed.

Lenny may, just may,be on the cusp of success and perhaps greatness.

No matter,I will be enjoying the trip and the {cyber} company of ourselves,as I always have done.

  7. HH to all those still up and surrounded by piles of pressies for their nearest and dearest.

Had the good fortune of seeing my 25+ years season ticket holder at I-Brokes brother-in-law today after their game. He stated that the St Mirren boy went down dramatically and one of the camera angles showed that `elbows’ didn’t touch him. He watched the game in the pub. I have since seen the evidence and neither points are true. Which brings me to my point.

I have never seen the same game as my brother-in-law. Or at least you would think so.

When you have watched a team soooo long and they have continuously been given the `benefit of the doubt’ then when the same law that is applied to others is applied to you, then you feel hard done by. Crazy i know. Referee today had some cajones and did his job. Shame it can’t be said that this is true on a regular basis.

Referee has been hand-picked for Wednesday and der hun WILL appeal `elbows’ red. He WILL target Forest and anything in a hoop-style top. I want our players to show some nous and NOT respond to intimidation but reply in goals. By all means stand up to physical excess but just be a bit cleverer than them – can’t be that hard when Laugherty is in their team.

Enjoy Christmas one and all, you and yours, can you hear the thunder?

Personally will be gutted if ‘elbows’ red card not rescinded and he isn’t lined up against us on Wednesday… He’s rubbish and I want that exposed.

They have 5 players I rate highly

    McGreggor

    Papac

    Davis

    Whittaker

    Jelavic

    Naismith ( glad he’s out)

    Aluko has potential.

The rest are poor. We need to be on song to win. This game however will be less defining than the transfer window after today’s results.

The pressure has shifted to them!!

  10. Lady mac has just went on up and left me to finish my beer.We put out their presents and as they are older teenagers now the display looked pretty sparse until I reminded myself there was about a grands worth of stuff scattered around the furniture .It’s a sad day for us as it’s the first Christmas we’ll spend not as complete family as the eldest lad ,like many other Irish (and Scots) boys has ventured forth to the sunny shores of Australia in order to seek a few quid and experience something of the outside world .So if any of you Aussie bhoys run into Kev,Brendan, and Sheirdy who claim to be the three wise men from the Orient ,they are in actual fact a trio of yahoos from East Belfast

I agree, with the exception of Whittaker, never a defender. His mazy runs (when he does them) reminds me of the tinpot man they had but he still has no end product. McCulloch and the way he is deployed/played is an embarrassment, so bring him on.

Don’t think Fat Sal has been exposed to the pressure by the LL like Neil has but he has shown by his indefensible defence (IS THAT ALLOWED) of Aluko that he has not a clue! IMO

Happy new year one and all.Was browsing for a wee while, but it took me about 45mins to get past negAnon’s post of the 2nd goal the day,a must have watched it about 30 times,no lies – the commentary from channel67 was powerful so it was!

Anyway, the reason i logged on was this – Kenny Shiels.Listen fellas – i don’t know the ins and outs of it – but i do know this – Kenny Shiels is not a hun.Kenny Shiels is a passionate football man.I am disappointed with some of the comments earlier, accusing the fella of being this that and the other thing.

He plays to win – and his team tried just as hard against us,as they did against them.I have been told that Kenny lost a relative during Ireland’s troubles,it would be easy for me to google, and find out what happened,or what the circumstances were – but i am not going to,because it doesn’t matter.

Always this remember Bhoys & Ghirls – When our manager was being persecuted, and when the silence was deafening – there was one man that spoke out,in condemnation, and in support of our manager – and that person was the same Kenny Shiels, manager of Kilmarnock.

Just because a person is from the occupied six counties, and they are not,of my persuasion – does not automatically mean that they are a hun.Craigan of Motherwell is another example.Alan Kernaghan? McKnight that once played in goals for us? Bertie of 7-1 fame?.

I apologise once again, but we are Celtic supporters – regardless of creed or colour, and that is what makes us unique.I will not point the finger at anyone, although a certain

poster, from my same county was betting against us,away to Udinese.Maybe im wrong, and if i am – i will wind my neck in – but he was raging because we didn’t lose,or he was happy because Di Natle scored against us? I can’t be certain.

Anyway,a wee bit of humilty is what’s called for.

And never back against yer own team.

    Rant over.

  23. Kit

Irrespective of the result come Wednesday night no prizes will be given out. I’ve said for 2 months that it was all about getting as close to them as possible come January. Now I never expected to get as close as we have but the same rule applies, keep winning Celtic.

Right everything wrapped so time for Santa jammies. God bless you all and I hope you have a truly special day.
