Celtic 2-1 Kilmarnock

648

Kilmarnock substitute Danny Racchi scored with a thunderous striker after 87 minutes to turn an otherwise pedestrian Celtic victory into a late drama.  Georgios Samaras scored a goal either side of half time to give Celtic the platform to secure a victory which moved them to within a point of the top of the table.

Victor Wanyama played in central defence, which left his midfield partner, Beram Kayal, bereft of a solid accomplice in midfield.  As a result, Kilmarnock found it easy to run through the Celtic midfield with Paul Heffernan and Dean Shiels causing problems.

Neil Lennon must have been wondering what he would need to do to spark Celtic into action after the break when Cha Du-Ri sprung clear on the right and threw in a high cross which Samaras attacked six yards out and headed into the net in first half stoppage time.

8 minutes after the break Samaras made it 2-0.  Gary Hooper collected a through ball on the right and knocked it into the Greek’s path.  Samaras looked to have lost the ball, which was caught between his feet, but he recovered, evaded some flaying defenders and cracked a left foot shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Kilmarnock looked well out of the game until Racchi’s late intervention but after they pulled a goal back Celtic looked rattled.  Celtic scarcely held possession for the remaining minutes and hardly put two passes together in three minutes added time.  Fraser Forster was forced off his line to challenge Heffernan with seconds remaining.  The keeper did well to block but the ball broke free to Dayton who failed to convert an excellent change to equalise.

    Remarkable.

The jet-skiing? Is that the only word in the English language that…Says…jet skiing is not bad,it’s alright…HOWEVER…if ye are enthusiastic about that so-called sport, then i reckon it is just as good,jet-skiing in the river Clyde,as it is in Sydney harbour? Correct me if i am wrong, but there is prob less chance of being hit by a speed-boat on the Clyde,so it probably safer as well.

I too don’t understand your angst. There are a lot of Celtic Supporters here in Australia, if anybody was to ask me to put a figure on how many… I’d hazard a guess at around 30 to 40 thousand. There are of course unquantifiable more who have a soft spot for the Celtic. However, in amongst that 30 to 40 thousand there are loads of good Tims who have season tickets. Some have more than one; and from one season to the next they don’t get to step foot inside Parkhead. Others too pay for CH67, others too do both and more and seldom if ever get to see the games live. There are others who don’t have the disposable income to do likewise but cut them and they will bleed green and they are proud and defiant Celtic Supporters just like the next man or woman.

In amongst that 30 to 40 thousand we have a few ‘green huns’ but they are few and far between. We may too have our share of undesirables, but then who has the god given right to define ‘undesirable’?

To generalise in response to your generalisations, our support here is not pristine but it is good. When the Celtic get beat, we hurt. When the Celtic win, we celebrate, when we get cheated we are just as gutted as the man in Glasgow, the man in Boston, the man in Dublin, the man in New York, the man in London.

Bottom line mate… we too are Celtic Supporters. We pay our dues.

  23. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000 on

    Good Morning,

and a happy Christmas to all my fellow Celtic fans. I hope that you have a day that is filled with joy, laughter, peace, happiness and the love of all things good.

Christmas Day is all about belief. That may be the belief in a man caled Santa Clause and his Reindeer, it may be the belief in the birthday of the son of God or it may be the belief in simply a time of celebration and family, No matter what it is all about belief.

Me? I believe in all sorts of things. My own personal faith takes me down the Christian path, yet I equally believe in the faiths of the Jew, The Buddhist, The Hindu,The Seikh, The Scientologist, The Mormon,The Muslim, The Jehovah’s Witness and any other organised religeon as well as the the Atheist, the Agnostic and the plain not sure about any of all that stuff.

However, I also believe in ….well…. Fate. Or perhaps it is destiny, or maybe happenstance, or coincidence, or luck or chance. What I mean is that everything happens for a reason, and that each and everything has a cause and an effect which can be seen or touched or heard or felt– that nothing is just random or of no consequence and of no effect. I am not sure if I believe in fairies, or the wee people, or Leprechauns, or the myths and faiths of Merlin and magic– but i wouldn’t rule it out.

Aye, very good Brogan old chap– but what has all your personal philosophical baggage have to do with a football blog?

    Well, everything really!

You do not need to be of my faith to understand the tale of the good Samaritan– everyone knows that story and what it means. The same goes with the story of the man at the back of the church who was too humble to take a place at the front pew, or that if you believe enough you can take up thy bed and walk or perform some other form of miracle– it is all a matter of belief. Belief in yourself, your fellow man, or a belief in your God whatever he or she may be called. Belief is a purely personal thing– yet it can be a communal thing— not communist perhaps but definitely Commune–ist!

By the end of this week, this Celtic team will be top of the Scottish League– if they believe!

For a group of players, a club, a team, a footballing commune— who just 8 weeks ago were being pilloried and mocked for being 13– or even more— points behind the seemigly all conquering Rangers, by certain sections of the press– that is quite a— well miracle almost.

I believe that this team may have just discovered their belief– the belief that this is their time, that their destiny awaits, that their time is now, that it is written in the stars that together as a team and individually as a Samaras,Forrest,Hooper,Wanyama,Forster,Kayal,Matthews,Ledley,Ki or whoever– they can come from way back and collect a league champions medal in style. Which medal in turn opens a door and takes them on to a new stage and a new level and a new place. This is that time when they can achieve communally and individually.

This is their moment– a moment many have never experienced the likes of before. It is unchartered territory for a football player, because once you experience the win— well you win the experience and knowledge of how to win again, and again, and again.

Of course, for these players they will get to see something else too—- and that is they will see before their eyes and ears the growth of Celtic the club. By that I mean that they will experience the rising force that is the support, the twelth man, the spirit of Celtic that comes from the thousands who go to support, or who sit at a TV or Radio somewhere around the world– all willing– almost mentally forcing success on that group of men who wear the Green and White hoops. Their belief extends to those countless thousands and so the communal belief and strength just grows and grows– and that belief is never the end of something it is always the beginning!

That support is a force of nature—- it is that Celtic thing. That collective belief that unites so many people of all different religeous faiths, the agnostic, the atheist, the plain confused, those with a deep faith in something or someone and those who have no religeous conviction whatsoever. They come from all over.

Scotland,England,Ireland,Wales and from all sorts of foreign lands. That support is short, tall, fat, thin, white, black, brown or any other colour you can mention. They live amongst the Inuit, The Beduin, The Massai, The New Yorker,Londoners,Parisians, Glaswegians– in fact just plain everywhere. They are young,old,male,female,rich,poor,clever,daft.. and come from all sections of society.

Celtic– and the belief in all things Celtic— are not confined to the eleven who are afield. No they are each and everyone who believes in Celtic– whether they be Billionaire shareholders, Sharp suited men, season ticket holders, people who go to the occasional game or even no games at all. If you believe in this thing that is Celtic Football Club then you are Celtic Football Club.

Fate, decreed that one of our posters would make a vital post a day or so ago. It was a video clip of Rangers fans celebrating the winning of a league title in the Ibrox Bar in Maramris Turkey. Some found the video as awful and totally offensive. I found it compulsive as it reminded me precisely why I AM amd always will be a Celtic fan.

There was no songs in this video which showed the celebration of a title or a team or a player or a game even. Other than the words “Bouncy Bouncy” and “There’s not a team like the Glasgow Rangers…” the entire “Celebration” was a diatribe of hate—- hatred of Celtic, its fans, a religeon, a community. There was not a single positive sentiement in this whole celebration. Nothing inspiring. Nothing to look up to or admire– nothing you could logically explain to a passing stranger that would make any sense at all.

I don’t understand that. How do you celebrate hatred? How do you denegrate someone else’s beliefs? I don’t even know where or how you start wityh that? Not a song about your team. Not a song about “Us”, or the team, or even football itself– nothing.

Compare all of that to the tale of the good Samaritan, or the notion of Walfrid’s kitchen, or the idea of the King of Kings, or that when the ball hits the net and its not Jeorge Cadete— its Di Canio? Have you a smile on your face at that last line? When you read it or think it — it takes you back to a time and a laugh does it not– yet it does not denegrate anyone, wish violence upon them, celebrate the shedding of their blood or anything like that.

Whatever those people were supporting or celebrating has nothing to do with the sport or the club that I follow. Nothing whatsoever.

No– celtic is a belief. Not a belief that we are better than anyone else, but a belief that we can be better each and every day in what we do. That you can do somethiong for someone else who may not be as fortunate as you, that together and indivisually, with some effort you can achieve the seemingly impossible. A belief that we stand for something, a way of life, a code of conduct, a kind of society that makes you feel good by just being a part of it. A belief that you have something positive in common with people you have never met, who live in a far away land and at the other end of the internet– and of course from the very outset– a belief that together, and in all our names past present and future, we will field a football team and play a brand of football that is exciting, fun, fair, open to all and easy to support in that most positive of ways– with songs, laughter and yes– dreams and hopes. A belief that we only know that there’s going to be a show and The Glasgow Celtic will be there is some shape or form.

And we will do all of this in such a way that the right thinking neutral, that passing stranger, the non Celtic person wherever they may be,looks on and admires and wonders and perhaps even joins in this Celtic celebration and be part of this Celtic family.

Of course there are other football teams, fine teams with proud histories, but this is our history, our legacy. That “belief” is what the men of 1887/88 left behind for us. They had their reasons and hopes and dreams for forming a “club” like this. These were their ideals, their beliefs, their ambitions in starting such a club and this is the parcel that we will find waiting for each and every one of us beneath the Chrsitmas tree this Christmas morning.

You may not be actually able to see it— but believe me you can taste it, feel it, sense it and know that it is there– both inside you and all around you. That parcel is yours to carry and pass on throughout your days– should you choose to pick it up.

Belief– it is all about belief. Belief and dreams, hopes and aspirations.

I believe that the guys on the field and in the dressing room are about to realsie their beliefs, to unwrap the Celtic dream and let the Green and White genie out of the bottle. They are on the verge of growing into the Celtic jersey which does not shrink to fit the frames of lesser men– whether they be on the park or in the stand.

No– the Celtic jersey is for those who believe in the Celtic way and the Celtic way is a good thing to have in your heart this Chrsitmas morning— it is a parcel worth the unwrapping and passing on to a stranger or a loved one. It is a postive thing and is nothing like the so called celebration from Marmaris.

Celtic is a sensation and a feeling that is very much like Chrsitmas– it makes you feel good and have goodwill towards all men- yes even those in the Ibrox bar Maramaris.

And speaking of belief and goodwill to all—- whether you believe in someone, something, or nothing at all– can I ask anyone reading this to either say a wee prayer for, or give a wee positive thought on this day, to Oscar and Knoxy and all of the members of that family . You just never know……………… strange things happen when you believe in the Celtic way.

We are the Celtic family this Chrsitmas morn– and a happy and lovely Celtic Christmas to one and all.

Your piece led me to a little research and I quote “Dante’s definition was “love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one’s neighbour”……..I was looking for the definition of pride and stumbled upon this and I think your piece captured that perfectly.

  31. Good morning CQN, and Merry Christmas to one and all, in particular Paul 67, a really superb site.

A great day yesterday, I was more than a little nervous in the last few mins and was gutted that Izzy didnt get to come on but its only a matter of time before he and other players will return to the side.

What an incentive we have on Wednesday night to go top of the league considering where we have came from this season, a superb recovery.

Neil’s biggest decision on Wednesday night will be who to play in central defence and at left back.

    Hail hail !!
