Hibs’ remarkable comeback last night after going 0-2 down to Asteras Tripolis will have their Greek opponents wondering if three preseason friendlies was sufficient preparation for a game of that importance. Hibs have played five games in total.
AEK Athens, who lie in wait for Celtic or Rosenborg, have also played three games since losing the Greek Cup Final on 12 May. They play a fourth on Tuesday against Galatasaray, their final match before the Champions League third qualification round.
By contrast, Celtic have played five friendlies and are in their second qualification round. If they overcome Rosenborg, they will face AEK having played 10 games, including the league opener against Livingston. The difference between four and 10 games is significant. Four games is nowhere near enough to get a squad ready to perform at their best.
I know no one at Celtic Park or Lennoxtown likes having to come through four qualification rounds. It provides unnecessary hazard and denies the club access to lucrative friendly competitions, but there is nothing like a competitive focus to get players in shape.

David17. I haven’t looked but step back and think about it.
The Hun say they are reducing our ticket allocation so we respond. They say they are doing it to sell season books but Celtic don’t sell season books on thistle bais ( they can’t have done or they would be saying they want to talk about it for the next game). So they are preventing season book sales to accommodate the Hun.
Then they issue a statement talking about the game as a spectacle.essentially blaming the support (the goood ole board done want you to suffer too much) and essentially pleading to talk about it and restore the Hun to their original allocation.
Frankly it’s insulting to the support whether they realise it or not.
We are like an abused wife who just wants to return to the violent husband.

Excellent statement from Celtic and pleased that we’ve followed through with the reduction of tickets, as pledged some months ago, this has been overdue for Sevco FC 2012 and was overdue for Rangers from at least 2008 (Famine Song) until 2012 when they expired.
We have responded correctly and its clear that there is no unnecessary communication or dialogue with Sevco, and we are merely reciprocating and causing them additional financial considerations which will further contribute to their serious continuous cash flow absence.
