Celtic cruise past relegation battlers

757

Celtic didn’t need to get out of second gear to overcome Dunfermline yesterday, making it one of the most comfortable performances of the season.  After the festive season games against Rangers in the previous two seasons we played the team bottom of the league, Falkirk and Hamilton, both of whom were subsequently relegated, but we dropped points on each occasion.  Teams fighting for SPL survival are filled with players fighting for money to pay their mortgages, no result can be assured.

Dunfermline are everyone’s hot tip for relegation but they are still missing several players and having watched Hibs capitulation against Hearts yesterday I reckon nothing is clear cut yet.  Hibs are in trouble.

We were linked with him in the summer but sadly nothing came of it.

Now unfortunately Der Hun are being linked with him (in the last week) so would be very unhappy if it came back to bit us on the a@*$!

Guys, settle a wee argument this morning. Before we pumped That Lot 2-0 last season on 2 January, what was the state of play in the league? Were we behind/in front, with Them having games in hand??

The result on the 2nd january 2011 put celtic 4 points clear at the top of the table having played 2 games more.

Celtic had palyed 19 and had 45 points

Them had palyed 17 and had 41 points.

    Hopes this helps

  4. Morning CQNer’s.

Would just like to say that Robbie Keane would certainly score goals for us but, I go along with the suggestion above from, LiviBhoy about making donations to the suggested charities and also, we would have to consider the fact that he is 2 years older now ?

Personally, i would go for the ‘cat amongst the pigeons’ signing and, go for Goodwillie ?

No really – it means I’m wrong!! Haha!! I was certain they were 4 in front going into the game, if they won it put them 7 clear with 2 games in hand, but with us winning, it left them only a point in front. Oh well, I’ll grudgingly let the Hun know he was right for a change!!

  7. Time for a Fraser Forster debate…..

Tottenham look set to rival Celtic for the signature of promising young Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster, although the Scottish side have the edge given their current loan arrangement with the player.

Neil Lennon’s Celtic currently have the first option on a permanent move for Forster, with that one of the contractual stipulations involved in taking him on loan at the start of the season.

However, if Forster prefers the option of remaining in the ranks of English football, Spurs could provide a more enticing offer particularly given the advancing years of their current first choice keeper Brad Friedel.

Forster may deem Tottenham a club edging towards consistent Champions League football, and with Friedel unlikely to stay beyond next season, his chance to cement a starting berth with a top European club could persuade a player who is currently in reserve for Newcastle.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp reportedly sent goalkeeping coach Tony Parkes to scout Forster in last week’s vital Old Firm victory. According to the Express, Forster impressed and now seems likely to have propelled himself ahead of Siena’s Zeljko Brkic as their preferred option.

Lennon is in the process of urging Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell to tie up a permanent £2 million deal for Forster, as the Scots look to act quickly in an effort to nip any Premier League interest in the bud.

You might be made to eat those words if the huns bring him in on loan ?

  9. Rogueleader – these stats surprised me .

Gary Hooper – 31 in 47 SPL games, 0.66 goals per game. 14 assists – 0.30 assists per game. 0.96 goals per game. 4 goals in 5 games against the Huns.

Tony Stokes – 23 in 49 SPL games, 0.47 goals per game. 19 assists – 0.39 assists per game. 0.86 goals per game. More bookings than shots against the Huns !

Robbie Keane – 12 in 16 SPL games, 0.75 goals per game. 2 assists – 0.125 assists per games. 0.875 goals per game. 0 goals in 2 games v the Huns.

Not sure that Keane is any better than what we currently have. Big strong striker such as Diawara is more what we need.

  10. I cant find exact stats but i think we got ahead of them in December by a point but had played at least three games more

than them as Ipox had games postponed because of the burst water pipes.

I think we had a chance to go above them on a couple of occasions but drew three games in a row at home as our ground was

the only one able to cope with the weather (- 10deg at Killie midweek that was coldest ever for me at the football)

    sorry cant be more specific

The trialist was Danny Webber, a former Man Utd youth player. He has been around the english leagues for a number of year and has been without a club since being released in the summer.

He came in on trial in early December and never heard anything else about him so just left him on the list as on trial, so might amend that to save further confusion.

  26. Kevjungle /Greenjedi – Goodwillie is a good player, but not sure he’s any better than we’ve got. As you say , it’s irrelevant as he cant move here this month anyway.

Not sure the scumbag charge is fair either, the guy hasn’t been found guilty of anything other than thumping an 18 stone rugby player who tried to stick the nut on him. I can’t imagine I’d be happy if my daughter brought him home, but you could apply that to a few we have had in the hoops in the past.

Due to flight cancellations, a result of the stormy weather. a number of apologies were received.

Amongst those who could’t attend were, SFTB, Neil Lennon, Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell.

However, the latter mailed a list of those players who will be joining the club and those who will be leaving.

Special mention to SFTB, who had his FF motion passed, by a small majority.

Wouldn’t want him anywhere near Celtic Football Club. No matter what a court or PF says!

  30. Allgreen,

You have it dead right. Ki, for me, is the most talented player we have. Unfortunately, he is a football player in the SPL. He reminds me of my all time favourite player, Charlie Gallagher. If Ki had the dig of Kayal, the team would be built around him. It is not going to happen. I am sure, if he goes to Spain or Italy, he will be a great success.

Who is McInally manager of? Our only hope in the SPL is that his ilk are got rid of. I know that is too much to hope for but I think there are wee signs of attitudes changing at long long last. St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Hibs and Dunfermline are trying to play football and, by and large, Aberdeen and Dundee Und do too. It is the likes of the bankrupt mobs, east and west, and Motherwell and ICT who are the worst offenders. Until they stop (or have the rules enforced against them), Scotland will have few if any class football players coming through.
