Celtic cruise past relegation battlers

757

Celtic didn’t need to get out of second gear to overcome Dunfermline yesterday, making it one of the most comfortable performances of the season.  After the festive season games against Rangers in the previous two seasons we played the team bottom of the league, Falkirk and Hamilton, both of whom were subsequently relegated, but we dropped points on each occasion.  Teams fighting for SPL survival are filled with players fighting for money to pay their mortgages, no result can be assured.

Dunfermline are everyone’s hot tip for relegation but they are still missing several players and having watched Hibs capitulation against Hearts yesterday I reckon nothing is clear cut yet.  Hibs are in trouble.

79caps – you are spot on. Ki is the most technically gifted player in the squad. At his age £6m would be robbery as he will be world class.

    ……..

I agree, but I don’t think he can fulfill his potential in the SPL and we have only a couple of transfer windows left to cash in on him! We made the mistake of not selling boruc when he was worth a fortune, we can’t afford to make the same mistake with Ki!

  3. Livibhoy i think Peter lawell us incapable of performing negotiations with a goal scorer as it affect his own salary

Therefore keane would be better than nohing, and going by PL record in signing a regular goal scorer. Mm none. Keane is better than nothing

  4. Ki is exactly the kind of player we will need next season when we go into the Champions League, we would be insane to sell him unless of course that nice Mr McLeish would give us some shiny buttons and ugly betty…jeez oh scottish fitba drives me mad!!

That was a pure beaut, so it was.

How many goals has David Healy scored in the last couple of seasons? (thumbsup)

    What’s his contract situation?

    …….

He signed for us 2 years ago on a I’m assuming a 4 and a half year deal. That would run out in the Summer of 2014, so thats 3 windows including this one before his last year and we are not in a strong bargening position after that.

  8. greenjedi – with the state of the Scottish game just now no World Class player would flourish. Ki is not there by a long shot, but if he stays with us he might not get there at all.

    We will agree to disagree.

I do not want Robbie Keane for two months under any circumstances. I don’t think it brings any value to Celtic.

    Stick with what we have.

All about opinions and I totally appreciate most of those points in principal mate, but he does all of this things in too small doses and disappears for long spells in every game. I have to differ on possession. Losing possession (hanging onto the ball until he gets caught rather than poor passes) is one of his major weaknesses rather than him being best at retaining possession, and he does it in dangerous areas where there’s little support behind him.

I never mentioned Brown as being better option incidentally, I’d take my money back for Scott as it happens, but Kayal, again imo, will win you a lot more battles than young Ki who may well go onto fulfill fantastic potential but his form is fleeting.

Sounds like you’d take the risk and build the team around him based on that becoming more consistent. Fair play to you, no argument from me, just a different opinion. I’d be pretty sure Ki will want to try his hand in the EPL and if the difference is only a couple of million over the next couple of years I’d take the money now and save the wages and reinvest. I can’t ever see a day when any SPL player fetches more than £8m.

I had this conversation with someone last week regards McGowan. If he is indeed the ex editor of the CV then he most definitey has an axe to grind with the club. His digs + snyde comments when reporting on us have been going on for quite some time

McInally is indeed a Tim but the comments need addressing either way.

Well, we got 11 million for Aiden. So if we must sell Ki, let it be to the Russians!

  20. Guys, settle a wee argument this morning. Before we pumped That Lot 2-0 last season on 2 January, what was the state of play in the league? Were we behind/in front, with Them having games in hand??

  21. Ki is a football player, unfortunately that’s a disadvantage in the SPL.

The type of comment by Jim McInally shows why Scottish football is so poor.

In Scotland players like Kayal and Wanyama are more suited to the game than Ki. Only in Scotland can a player be dismissed as “too much of a footballer”.

I agree to bring in a striker but I have outlined what we need.

Big, strong, good in the air, pacey.

What we don’t need is a player for 2 months. Makes no sense.

If we don’t get a big strong striker then forget Keane. We have Bangura and he has already cost us a hefty transfer fee. He may look poor but if he can score in bounce matches against first team players he will do it on the pitch.

Give the guy a chance. Really don’t want Keane in. Have you noticed? ;-)

  24. No Robbie Keane for me,his time has came and gone.

We should be looking to sign a young hungry and ambitious striker,or failing that promote one of our youth.Slan

  25. Can’t believe we have any interest in Keane.

We have a young improving squad, we don’t need short term drop ins. I hope the club come out and knock this on the head as the press will use this to unsettle fans and players for the next month.

Correct! Robbie Keane was one of them!

No idea why he should get another chance or deserves another chance to wear the Hoops for a short period of time to fill a gap in the US close season.

We are not a training camp. I would rather bring in someone like John Sutton who would burst a gut to play for us rather than a guy who will be avoiding injury and eager to get back to his plush lifestyle and big wages in America.

However if the Robster is so Keane to play in the Hoops he makes a donation to the Thai Tims or the Kano foundation and plays for free or minimum salary I will take it all back.

    LB

  27. Keane is better than Hooper and Stokes but will cost considerably more, even for a 2 month loan. Keane will not provide a means to alter the attacking strategy however. He would fit into the existing system. Keane’s strengths are running into space and finishing. How often do Celtic players find space like that? 90% of teams play 5 at the back with a packed midfield and a deep lying back line.

The Keane money would be much better spent on a powerful aerial striker which will allow for tactical variation in our attack.

  29. Livibhoy

Have to agree on Keane – he’s had his chance, don’t think it will happen anyway. A season long or even half season loan for any player makes sense, but 2 months would only disrupt the harmony of what appears to be a good squad. Keane’s signing effectively ended the career of Rasmussen, who may or may not have done better had he been given a run in the team. Did Keane score more goals than Scott McDonald would have ? Don’t remember him doing anything against the Huns.

Bangura has had 1 start in the league, is 22 , and living miles from home in a cold and hostile country, who knows how he will turn out if he gets a run of games.

Spend the money we’d waste on Keane on someone who wants to play for Celtic.
