Celtic exploit Wednesday collapse, a morality tale in two players

725

Celtic’s pillage of Yorkshire’s young talent continued yesterday with the arrival of 20-year-old Dutch player Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday.  Osaze is a central defender and arrives a few days after fellow Wednesday graduate, midfielder Liam Shaw.

Sheffield Wednesday are in turmoil.  Their most recent published accounts, to June 2019, showed a trading loss of £17m on a turnover of £22.8m – horrendous, but an improvement on the previous year’s trading loss of £23.7m.  They sold Hillsborough for £38m during season 2018-19, switched the accounts to a £19m profit, but they are now a club without a stadium-sized asset on the balance sheet.

Since then, a bad situation has gotten considerably worse.  Despite being the biggest team in the Championship by some margin, the finished bottom of the table in May; at least one season of third tier football awaits.

In short, Osaze and Liam may read about Celtic’s supposed turmoil last season and kick into the Monty Python Four Yorkshiremen sketch:

“You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t’ mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home Peter Lawwell would thrash us to sleep wi’ his belt.”  I’m pretty sure that’s how I remember it.

Football is a zero sum game and where one giant club disintegrates, others see opportunity.  Young players with talent and options will not stay.

Celtic were able to use the arbitrage permitted to them with not being bound by transfer rules between two FA member clubs.  That money, perhaps in the region of £5m a piece for Shaw and Urhoghide, went on wage offers outbidding clubs from England.  It’s a rerun of the Dembele deal from four years ago.

I have been saying for years the Championship is the most dysfunctional league in the world.  It also causes Scottish Premiership clubs more trouble than any other.  Where Wednesday have gone, others will follow.  It is a morality tale in the making.

Sorry, as I said simply not true. Up till I posted some very important Covid figures, figures that will affect the club and people like me and my family who buy season tickets, 75% of Saturday’s posts were other than Celtic & football – please do some homework.

    Question 2

I do not take instructions from those who disagree with me – do you? If you did you would have a terrible life.

Those who wish I didn’t post only do so because they disagree with my point of view and are either unwilling, or, unable to respond.

😅Please stop taking yourself so seriously. The world is full of people with different views. There are places in the world where free-speech is banned – the UK is not one & funnily enough neither is CQN. You and those like you want to chase anyone who doesn’t agree with you – what does that say about you?

Politics and its ramifications touch every aspect of our lives….yes including Celtic and football.

  2. I really am at a loss as to why JHB receives so much stick for his posts. As 31003 said above `There have always been politics discussed on the blog.`. I tend to flash past them but still get the gist of the points being made and can`t see that JHB is any more political than many others who don`t receive criticism.

Personally, I find the posters who are CONSTANTLY negative about Celtic more of an annoyance than I do the political posts. The latter are just guys using the Blog as a vehicle for chat. The former, IMO, are simply reinforcing the anti-Celtic policies of the MSSM.

Thanks for answering….but your answer did not answer and was pish…with all due respect

You haven’t answered why you insist on posting political statements on a football blog…and I’ll guess you never will

    Last question

    Multiple choice and 2 parts

    Are you

    a) a political journalist?

    b) a politician?

    c) simply a troll

    Part 2 of the question

A question every TRUE Celtic fan will know

What hangs in th Celtic boardroom and what is extremely unusual about it?

    1st Are y

  4. “A question every TRUE Celtic fan will know

    I don`t know.

I am not giving JHB any more than he gives all posters here

Day in day out I read this site

    Surely

If I have to read his/scroll by his posts

then he has to do the same with mine

I engaged with him only after I asked him if I could

There is no and will not be any animosity

  6. Hot Smoked

Ok. Yir no a true Celtic fan

    Happy?

    Bring it on

I’m trying to converse with a supposed (although he’s never said he is) a Celtic fan I doubt

  7. 31003

I wasn`t talking specifically of you. I was making a general comment and it does seem to me that JHB receives more criticism than other posters making the same points.

Anyway, it is a goodnight from me,

    Goodnight.

  8. Hot Smoked

    Apologies

    Blame JHB

He seems to bring the worst out in everyone

*I fully concur with you on both points, the latter are really tedious so I try tae ignore them, we all know who they are with their kid on Tim names especially Partick Loyalist Band.

  10. 80% of statistics are made up

100% of JHBs statistics are made up

100% of my statistics are made up

England have a more than fifty – fifty per cent chance of winning the Euros

JHB claimed that 60% of Celtic fans were stupid and sectarian

JHB 100% believes that he has the answers to all political questions

    He 100% knows Kate Hoey

He 100% didn’t criticise her for saying that violent protest gets attention in the North of Ireland until I presented her recent statements regarding the Protocol

He 100% didnt criticise British policy in the North of Ireland (replicated around the world)

I 100% support his right to give his opinion

He 100% claims he goes on about the SNP because it is something that his love for his fellow Celtic supporters demands

I 100% find him quite amusing and enjoy the odd tussle with him

I am 100% fed up that England won

    I am 80% drunk

I 100% realise that it is time to let the good bhoys on here discuss Big Ange and a bright tomorrow.

  11. In fact

    Tontine

Please don’t respond to that. I can see JHB suiting with his brandy and cigar, smoking jacket and monogrammed slippers watching us which whaching as he looks on

  12. 31003

I don’t know what your wall-hanging is, but I know two very important things. My family & I have been season ticket holders before it became de rigueur……and Celtic is a club open to ALL. Do you know what all means?

Paul Brennan has the same ethos for this blog…..and he practices what he preaches, sometimes in the face of viscous & unwarranted criticism, to his great credit.

What did Jock Stein always carry in an inside pocket of his jacket – now if you don’t know that you can’t be a real Tim🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Sorry I don’t buy this.

I have been negative towards Celtic over recent years and explained why.

Campbell and Woods once wrote in a history of the club that

“The opposite of Love is not Hate, but Indifference.”

There’s a world of difference between the motivations of and comments by negative posters, and the MSM being their using anti-Celtic selves.

  14. JHB

Thanks for responding…yet still not answering my questions

Your “non answering” actually answers my questions

You are false as far as I can make out

    Try this

For one week only, post 10 times a day, (which you do now) about Celtic and football without mentioning politics or Covid numbers

    Bet you can’t

FAIRHILL BHOY Talking of fishing…….. I went swimming while on a wee break (3 days) to Balloch…… Done the Loch boat trip…….. Spent a day at Milaroccy Bay swimming in the Loch…… Finished up the last day in Helensburgh had a swim and took photos from the pier of The Port, Greenock and Largs further doon the watter.

*you two are definitely trying tae intimidate me lol.

I’ve been fortunate tae have done a lot of travelling and visited some historic sites but my favourite place of all time is Balmaha. We would as a family go up every Sunday in the summer; you know back then when it never rained lol, still tae a wee trip up when I’m hame.

Helensburgh was another favourite but can be pretty cauld even during a heat wave.

How did you go up the Loch on a boat cruise and where did you stay in Balloch.

Last time we were over, it was our 50th so we took our weans, nae grandweans or in-laws just back where we started, we rented a flat in Cardross and either took the Carman Hill over tae Balloch or went intae Helensburgh and over the Black Hill.

We went up tae Culloden, my daughters had read and watched the Outlander, via Glencoe going over the Black Hill and up the Loch shore, amazing trip even though it was raining, stayed the night in Inverness and came back down the A9 going back tae Balloch for fish and chips via Drymen.

My lassies have spent plenty of time at hame, 2 of them were born there and were in Primary 3 and 1 when we left, through the years so they went everywhere by train, even Stirling, still have their accents tae even the one born here, can switch it on and off.

  16. I must confess to being somewhat confused as to what constitutes a ‘negative Celtic’ post.

If I were to point out that we were 25 points behind the Scottish league winners last season, is that negative?

If I list the appointments afc Bournemouth recently made (head coach, first team coach, goalkeeping coach, head of performance, first team head analyst, lead physical performance coach) whilst Celtic have appointed one man so far, is that negative?

Last season, anyone who had the audacity to suggest all was not well, was branded a ‘pantywetter’. Pretty juvenile and disappointing when it was mentioned in a lead article.

As it transpired, those concerned posters were right to be anxious.

I see this season, they’re merely being called ‘tedious’. I guess that’s progress

“When it came time for the obligatory photo with the green and yellow scarf though Mrs Gilmour made clear she wasn’t for touching one particular section.

She said “I’ll hold a yellow bit” as Mr Gilmour declared “she doesn’t like that colour, she’s getting an away shirt!”
