Celtic exploit Wednesday collapse, a morality tale in two players

725

Celtic’s pillage of Yorkshire’s young talent continued yesterday with the arrival of 20-year-old Dutch player Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday.  Osaze is a central defender and arrives a few days after fellow Wednesday graduate, midfielder Liam Shaw.

Sheffield Wednesday are in turmoil.  Their most recent published accounts, to June 2019, showed a trading loss of £17m on a turnover of £22.8m – horrendous, but an improvement on the previous year’s trading loss of £23.7m.  They sold Hillsborough for £38m during season 2018-19, switched the accounts to a £19m profit, but they are now a club without a stadium-sized asset on the balance sheet.

Since then, a bad situation has gotten considerably worse.  Despite being the biggest team in the Championship by some margin, the finished bottom of the table in May; at least one season of third tier football awaits.

In short, Osaze and Liam may read about Celtic’s supposed turmoil last season and kick into the Monty Python Four Yorkshiremen sketch:

“You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t’ mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home Peter Lawwell would thrash us to sleep wi’ his belt.”  I’m pretty sure that’s how I remember it.

Football is a zero sum game and where one giant club disintegrates, others see opportunity.  Young players with talent and options will not stay.

Celtic were able to use the arbitrage permitted to them with not being bound by transfer rules between two FA member clubs.  That money, perhaps in the region of £5m a piece for Shaw and Urhoghide, went on wage offers outbidding clubs from England.  It’s a rerun of the Dembele deal from four years ago.

I have been saying for years the Championship is the most dysfunctional league in the world.  It also causes Scottish Premiership clubs more trouble than any other.  Where Wednesday have gone, others will follow.  It is a morality tale in the making.

Celtic fans in my family and in my experience have always had a rebellious challenging nature

A club born from an immigrant community that had to fight for survival and eventually grow to be the world-famous club it now is

Its an insult to generations of Celtic supporters to now claim that challenging the club PLC today is because of the MSM, some people just don’t get it

  6. I posted on here several times about a year or two back roundabout when the news came out that Brendan was for the off after having obvious difficulties with PL I thought there and then that this club is in for a long rough time ahead with the 10 just appearing on the horizon I kept saying to myself, and folk at home etc that the 10 was now looking iffy. Little did I think that the consequent events after Brendan leaving would’ve been as bad as they’ve turned out, and with a quadruple treble included as well the decade long trophy haul has spoiled a lot of supporters that I do agree with Neil Lennon about, the only thing missing from the stands was a banner saying “Celtic Expects” such was the one sided nature of Scottish football since the Rangers went out the game and PL/DD have held the door open for their return and never once addressed the same club issue, that season tickets sold out without a whimper at the PLC’s failure to address the Ibrox corruption on their return in 2016, given that its us who were the main victims of the cheating, that anger is probably baked into the way Neil Lennon felt when supporters who’d unquestioningly financially backed corruption from the PLC, yet supporters saw fit to run after buses because we lost a trophy having been knocked out of a cup vs Ross County.

I don’t know enough about Ange I’ll have to read up on his stuff but I hope he is a success.

I try to catch up on the blog but it can be reading almost a week at a time now just to catch up. I see a lot of names missing too many to mention, I don’t know JHB but he seems pleasant enough and well mannered and Ernie Lynch is a must read always sharp and to the point, and very informative both EL and JHB, and the much missed Canamalar, hope he’s fine and well just the same to all of the missing names, I read back and see attacks on EL and JHB from Indy supporting Celtic supporters. I fail to understand why Celtic supporters would want to inflict a hard border on us all, and I get that Labour have been untrustworthy for decades now so Indy is the thing but what does it answer?

I saw someone mentioning George Galloway earlier and I noticed that in his party’s first election of any kind he got 22% of the vote whilst mainstream news were writing him off at 6% some difference there. Also interestingly he said he’s filed a complaint to have the result set aside at Batley and Spen because of Labour’s almost Rangers antics very interesting that he will not speak to MSM for their part in covering up if not abetting Labour’s behaviour.

I’m not very good at this but I’ll make a prediction – George Galloway will be next UK PM and he’ll achieve this by not acquiescing to any MSM. What’s the odds for that?

Take care everyone and keep the peace.

I heard something about this on the radio recently. In England ,way-back ,the early game was unstructured, a bit like school kids in a mob ,all chasing after the ball.

North of the order a professor came up with the concept of players having positions and even more radical – passing to each other. Hence in those very early days of football Scotland nearly always beat the English.

If this is true then the home football must be Scotland.

    ME too.

I was at Blessed John Ogilvie Primary School in Easterhoose from 1961 to 1967…and then onto the OLD Saint Gregorys Secondary School. I spent about my last 6 months at The NEW Greg in Cranhill until early January 1971….and I got a job on a Building site with the auld Gleaga Corpy. I walked oot of my ” O level Class” on the Wednesday, got interviewed for the job on the Friday…and started work on the Monday in a Building dept just 200 yards from my Hoose in Easterhouse.

I was a Tea Boy for a year looking after a Squad of Scots and Irish Navvies before getting my apprenticeship as a Spark…my official Job Title was ” NIPPER”…Magic days.

Wish I was back there sometimes…My take home pay for 40 Hours was £5.00 one week…and £5.50 the following week. I had started work the Month BEFORE Decimalastion ( NEW currency) came in in February 1971.

    Sorry about the spelling LOL.

  9. Disappointed with the Celtic Trust joint statement. I don’t see any reason for it. McKay is entitled to a fair run at this without calls for fans to withhold money. Completely unnecessary. I have instead decided to withhold my money from the trust.

  20. Old Tina Turner and Simply the Best on the radio just now. Anyone else remember being at Ibrox one game when it came on and we started belting it out? We were in party mood, can’t remember if we had just won the league, and we made it our song to piss them off. I remember the whole Broomloan Road belting it out and the rest of Ibrox fell into stunned silence 😂

Difficult not to conclude that we have the Union to thank for the genesis and development of the game of football as we know it.

  24. 100% support the CST and GB position but I would have gone further and boycotted STs. It’s not about Ange and Dom, it’s about a club like no other that aids, abets and condones cheating by its bitterest rivals (old and new) and cowers in the face of its enemies to the detriment of its very lifeblood, the fans – you know the bhoys and girls who keep the PLC members in the style they’re accustomed to. Feckin sickening!
