Celtic spectacular interim accounts released

467

Celtic this afternoon released their interim accounts for the six-month period to 31 December 2016, the figures are as rewarding as expected.

Income was up an incredible 94% on the corresponding period in 2015 to £61.2m (2015: £31.4m). Profit from operations reached £21.4m (2015: £1.6m), although profit on player transfers fell to £2.0, (2015: £12.6m).

Investment in player registrations for the period was £9.5m, not that much higher than 2015’s £6.1m.

To put some perspective on these figures, income for the whole of last season was £52.0m, £9m less than we earned in the first six months of this season. Results against Lincoln Red Imps, Astana and Hapoel Be’er Shiva in the summer have had a huge impact on the club.

The lack of Champions League football during the second half of the campaign will see income drop off, but these figures provide the first solid evidence that income will to £80m this season for the first time, comfortably £50m more than any other Scottish club will earn.

The figures also reflect a significant uplift in sponsorship deals, which kicked-in this season – well done to all concerned.  The post-Brexit vote battering of the pound didn’t do any harm either for a club earning so many euros…….

  6. My friends in Celtic,

IMO, the student season ticket is already a fair price. £199 for a minimum 19 games and the first CL qualifying game. I also believe that they have the opportunity to purchase a ticket against ” Rangers” for the appropriate consessionary rate.

The youth ST is also a fair price but it ceases at age 18. I suppose the reasoning for that is in the name.

There is of course a bigger picture that must be equated. Less working class kids in Scotland are now going to university than elsewhere in the U.K. Is the free tuition backfiring and affecting quality of education? Are we effectively cutting traditional working class college places to subsidise free university places for the more affluent kids ?

Most students now get help from parents; from accommodation to boozing. That is despite the fact that student pubs offer their own discounts. We as parents help with all forms of entertainment, why not football?

Who helps the low paid. Who helps the apprentice over 18 years old.

While I agree that education is a right, it seems that right is now unarguably favoured towards the better off.

Let’s have all the facts when we discuss who unfairly Celtic treat their student fans.

  9. Olympic gold medallist Max Whitlock says Glasgow crowds will shine at European Championships 2018

The 24-year-old gymnast hailed crowds in Glasgow as ‘easily the loudest’ as he looks forward to competing in the 2018 European Championships.

    BY GLASGOW LIVE

Double Olympic champion Max Whitlock from Hemel Hempstead has hailed Glasgow crowds as the loudest ever and says he can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the 2018 European Championships.

The 24-year-old gymnast has a fantastic track record in Glasgow, having won three gold medals during the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He returned one year later to clinch gold on the pommel horse at a packed SSE Hydro during the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships.

And following last summer’s record-breaking exploits at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – where he won two gold medals and a team bronze – Max has said he can’t wait to compete for a chance to perform at Glasgow 2018 – an exciting new multi-sport event that brings together some of Europe’s leading sporting competitions.

The European Championships will be staged every four years and combine the existing European Championships of Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon and a new team Golf event.

The first edition will be held in the summer of 2018 in a unique sporting partnership between Host Cities Glasgow and Berlin. Glasgow and the rest of the country will host all events with the exception of Athletics – and Whitlock is relishing the chance of going for gold again at the city’s SSE Hydro.

Whitlock commented: “To add another multi-sport event to the calendar is a huge thing and I’m just gutted it hasn’t taken place earlier. It’s an amazing idea and it’ll be interesting to see the atmosphere that surrounds it.

“Every competition I’ve done in Glasgow has been incredible so I’m excited to see how these Championships go. The Glasgow crowds are crazy. They are easily the loudest crowd I’ve ever competed in front of.”

Max was a firm favourite with the crowds during the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships and Britain’s most successful Olympic gymnast says he would relish the chance to compete for Great Britain in front of the Glasgow fans once again.

He added: “It’s a huge honour competing for Great Britain in front of a home audience and every home competition I’ve done has been brilliant. The support really does help us; it gives us the determination to try harder and do more in the competition. We get such a buzz off of that.

“I remember walking out into the Commonwealth Games and I had goosebumps all over my body. And it was the same at the World Championships.

“It wasn’t just a great event for the spectators but for the athletes themselves. A lot of them came out of the World Championships saying it was the best competition they’d ever been part of.

“So if they are anything to go by, the Glasgow 2018 European Championships should be a huge success.”

Max has a busy year ahead – including the 2017 World Gymnastics Championships in Canada in September – but remains buoyed by his success at the Rio Olympics.

He said: “It doesn’t feel real yet. It’s crazy that it’s all finished. You work so hard towards it for so many years and it’s over so quick. It’s brilliant to look back on and it gives me a lot of confidence going forward into competitions like Glasgow 2018.”

The Glasgow 2018 event will be held August 1 – 12, with the European Athletics Championships held August 7 – 12 in Berlin.

Celtic target four-star hotel in the shadow of Parkhead stadium

    • The club recently lodged a planning application to install a new LED screen

    • A decision on whether to do likewise for a hotel is likely in the New Year

    • Would be part funded by £30m windfall from Champions League football

By Stephen Mcgowan For The Scottish Daily Mail

Celtic have drawn up plans to build a new 200-room hotel in the shadow of the main stand at Parkhead.

Feasibility studies have now begun on the proposed four-star facility on the corner of Clyde Gateway, currently site of the club’s ticket office.

Part funded by the £30million windfall from the Champions League campaign, which continues with Tuesday’s trip to Borussia Monchengladbach, Celtic directors have commissioned market research and believe the nearby Emirates Arena could bolster demand.

And a decision on whether to do likewise for a hotel is likely in the New Year.

Chris Trainer, Celtic’s second largest shareholder, recently announced plans for a £30m Radisson RED hotel on the banks of the Clyde amidst plans by his Forrest Group to move into the hotel sector.

GLASGOW has been hailed the winner after this weekend’s sell-out Davis Cup clash between Great Britain and the USA at the £113million Emirates Arena.

Over 22,000 fans packed into the city’s iconic Emirates Arena for three days of world-class tennis action starring among others British number 1 Andy Murray. Great Britain came out on top after an enthralling encounter, with Murray proving to be the difference winning both his matches in front of a passionate home support.

But it was the host city that stole the headlines after the event, with players praising both the venue and the atmosphere created by spectators over the three days.

Murray said: “It was pretty special. On behalf of all of the players I want to thank the crowd because it’s been one of the most special atmospheres I’ve ever played in. To play in front of a packed arena is just very special and I’m glad I was able to get the win.”

Team-mate James Ward added: “This is by far the best atmosphere I’ve ever been involved in and thank you very much to all the crowd.”

The event kick-started an unforgettable year of sport in Glasgow with the IPC Swimming World Championships and the World Gymnastics Championships also set to take place later this year.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of the Glasgow City Council, said: “It has been yet another fantastic weekend of sport in Glasgow, with the Davis Cup making its debut at the Emirates Arena in front of capacity crowds each day.

“Glasgow’s Year of Sport is well and truly underway, with some of the world’s leading events and sports stars set to take centre stage in the city over the coming months.

“Our attention will now turn to the IPC Swimming World Championships and World Gymnastics Championships, when we will welcome the world’s best para swimmers and gymnasts to our great city.

“This is Glasgow’s Year of Sport and we are ready to shine on the world stage.”

Jamie Hepburn Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health, said: “This has been a great event, with top-class tennis played in front of a packed house.

“Today is the start of Legacy Week and we’ll be shining the spotlight to look at some of the ways Scotland has benefited from last year’s Commonwealth Games. This fantastic Davis Cup match, played at a Games venue, is a great example of the sporting benefits the Games have brought.”

  13. Phenomenal changes ahead for Celtic Park

    BY PAUL67 ON 8TH MAY 2013

The news yesterday from Glasgow City Council that Celtic’s planning application for the areas outside the stadium had been approved will do more than deliver shrubbery to a currently derelict landscape; your match day experience is about to be transformed.

Unless your ticket is for the executive lounges, your match day will involve turning up to a cold stadium (not a lot Celtic or the Council can do about the weather) and wait for the game to start, with rudimentary access to toilets (get in early if you want a hand towel), burgers and pies.

Celtic have been buying up land around their perimeter for years and with permission to remove the derelict London Road School, they are now in a position to provide restaurants, bars, pre and post-match entertainment. They will also be able to bring the many thousands of artifacts which tell the story of Celtic into a dedicated museum space.

Celtic Park will become a working, 7-day-a-week, tourist destination. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Plans have been before the Council for years but although they ticked all the boxes and made enormous economic sense for an area of the city badly in need of a boost, I hear one SNP councilor spoke against plans to move the superstore from its current location to a larger area, as he felt the need to protect the interests of local Asda and Tesco superstores!

Not everyone was happy to see the club, or the area, progress.

  15. The League Cup has already been won; the League Title is very, very likely so the Scottish Cup , I would have thought, would generate great interest. Having just looked at the millions of dots , it would seem that this is not the case.

    Any views as to why?

Having to pay? Doesn`t affect CL attendances.

SFA protest? Doesn`t happenn in Cup finals or Semis at Hampden.

Opposition? Only Scottish team who have managed to stop us winning .

Maybe it is just early in the week. I expect Jobo and the Dot-counters to keep us informed.
