Celtic spectacular interim accounts released

467

Celtic this afternoon released their interim accounts for the six-month period to 31 December 2016, the figures are as rewarding as expected.

Income was up an incredible 94% on the corresponding period in 2015 to £61.2m (2015: £31.4m). Profit from operations reached £21.4m (2015: £1.6m), although profit on player transfers fell to £2.0, (2015: £12.6m).

Investment in player registrations for the period was £9.5m, not that much higher than 2015’s £6.1m.

To put some perspective on these figures, income for the whole of last season was £52.0m, £9m less than we earned in the first six months of this season. Results against Lincoln Red Imps, Astana and Hapoel Be’er Shiva in the summer have had a huge impact on the club.

The lack of Champions League football during the second half of the campaign will see income drop off, but these figures provide the first solid evidence that income will to £80m this season for the first time, comfortably £50m more than any other Scottish club will earn.

The figures also reflect a significant uplift in sponsorship deals, which kicked-in this season – well done to all concerned.  The post-Brexit vote battering of the pound didn’t do any harm either for a club earning so many euros…….

It’s expected to have to witness a strong (over) reaction against liberalism but I expect it to correct itself in equilibrium.

I`m afraid I expect it to be resolved in open conflict . Violence.

Hopefully , internally and not between nation states which , bizarrely have no borders.

Whoever Schengen is , or was , he or she has a lot to answer for.

People like to have a nation based identity.

    Always have. Probably always will.

Attempting to legislate counter to human nature will always fail in the long run.

The charge for the student ticket and other so-called concessionary ticket holders for the Rangers game is unforgivable in my humble opinion. If you are a season ticket holder at Celtic football club then you are a season ticket holder and that means your ticket entitles you to attend each home game during that season.

A student gets a discount because he or she is a student with less income than someone who is working, and so the price of their season ticket is reduced to reflect that and to encourage the same students to come to Celtic Park to support their team on a regular basis especially when they are in employment and can afford a full-priced ticket

When Celtic play Rangers, the student will still be a student, will still be a season ticket holder, will still be a Celtic supporter, will have been a student the day before and the day after, will be a season ticket holder at the next home game and the only difference in this game compared to every other game will be the identity of the opposition — namely RANGERS!

In other words, the student is being asked to pay £40 to watch Rangers – the charge has nothing to do with being a season long paying supporter of Celtic!

If a student or anyone else wants to watch Rangers, even if they want to support another team against Rangers, then they can always go to Ibrox and pay less than £40 for the privilege.

Personally, I think the Celtic board want to take a good hard look at themselves for implementing this policy and effectively forcing it on Celtic fans who are season ticket holders now and who will be the season ticket holders of the future.

As for the £6 charge for buying the ticket online, I am sorry but that is sheer profiteering.

It strikes me that Celtic PLC have devised and implemented a deliberate policy which seeks to financially punish Celtic fans who choose to seek and follow a University Education by forcing them to pay additional charges to watch Celtic play Rangers or whatever they are called now.

Given the history of the club, its original intentions and the record-breaking financials referred to in Paul’s header which clearly shows that the club is in no need of an extra £40 from any number of skint students, OAP’s or kids who want to support the club or its football team, I have to ask if I can morally continue to financially support such a money grabbing organisation?

For a lifelong Celtic fan this is a horrible position to be in but at the end of the day when someone treats you and yours unfairly and you can’t but help feel that you are being taken for a mug, then you take giant steps and yes you walk away.

There are many many good things going on at Kerrydale Street but this is a policy that is a sure loser and whoever thought of it is very stupid and short sighted indeed.

Interesting that the violence we see from the political sea-change is rooted in the left. The abortionists are despairing that they will be no longer publicly funded to tip their own children to pieces prior to their birth. The students smash and rampage through campuses because they think they have a God given right to everything their way or no way. The immigrants who recklessly invade countries by evading national security measures will burn down detention centres.

HT, how in the event of a mass boycott could the SNP claim this as a change in the behaviour of fans? Non attendance is not a change in behaviour………………..unless you happen to be a hun. Non attendance next season will be the norm for them.

I agree with MWD, a full on boycott of away games would cause other clubs to complain and raise the profile of the act. Groups like the Celtic Trust have the mental capacity and the vocal platform to put the rationale for a boycott out there in a coherent manner to the wider public.

Alas, I can never foresee the day the Celtic support unite so strongly against anything, even the OBAF act.

And, therein will be our failure to make a change. This will continue and we will do nothing to effect change, when change is within our gift with unity of the support.

You have expanded on my rationale,I.e., focus the attention of club chairmen and treasurers on the drop in income should Celtic supporters stop visiting their grounds.

It wouldn’t be long before serious lobbying and hand shaking occurred .

I have taken a stance against policies of the club before and indeed threw back season tickets in the nicest and politest possible way many years ago and didn’t return for a few years while following Celtic in every other way.

When things changed, I went back. Simples.

In this, as in any other instance, I suspect that whatever course of action I take it will make no difference at all to those who run Celtic Football Club but it will make a difference to the guy who stares back in the mirror each morning and it is he who counts.

It is not the £40 which bothers me but the rationale behind the charge which gets on my wick.

“Surely You get it that it’s just a New Online http://www.com of the old Chinese Whispers or similar to Urban Myths.. ”

No- I do feel there is something different going on.

There have always been sweetie wives spreading rumours and exaggerating observations, usuallu in the forum of celebrity gossip.

But when the same source “invents” facts and situations from out of the air, with pointed political intent (Remember! It was a Democrat-run paedophile ring that was alleged) then we have something more akin to Goebells than to Hedda Hopper or Mrs. Twitchy-curtain.

The difference between that and the I assume Dynblane and Thomas Hamilton, was in the existence of several core facts before the speculation starts.

    Thomas Hamilton was the shooter.

Thomas Hamilton had ben investigated re Scout paedophile tendencies.

The Police had signed off on his shooting license

The Cullen enquiry sealed off reports for 100 years/

All of that is factual and highly suspicious facts they are.

The link that it was done because of a masonic conspiracy is, and sadly will remain, a speculation, waiting to be proved, for a further 80 years unless someone breaks ranks.

The Washington Pizzagate story had no such core facts. The allegation that Hilary Clinton’s Campaign Vhairman ran a paedophile ring from the basement of a shop that did not have a basement was so obviously an invented wish story guaranteed to appeal to those who needed little in the way of nudging to believe that all Democrats were godless devil-worshippers and decidedly un-American.

    And it worked.

Yet another lone nutter- unbrainwashed by any CIA or establishment contact- went to visit violence on this shop and whoever he found within- even though that wholly fictional story was smokeless and fire-less. He could have acted like Anders Breitvik or Dylan Roof if not thwarted. All on the basis of some delusional pro-Trumpette who wanted to believe this is so.

And here we have again the same source, admittedly without the political smearing this time, though it would surely have emerged from her poison pen, given time, on the basis of no research whatsoever.

These are both attempts to hurl a lie half way round the world and why we should be grateful for people willing to fact check and put inconvenient truths in the way of the rush to judgement.

We suffer from it here, in the smaller arena of CQN, where we were tempted with an outrageous story about Ibrox stealing water supplies from a nearby Catholic church. That too was wish-fulfillment thinking that masquerades as a plausible hypothesis.

So, why I am quite prepared to believe there is something highly suspicious about Dunblane, though not yet sure what that suspicious thing is factually, I can competely differentiate that from a story invented out of anorexic thin air. And when the same source does it again, I am more comfortable in seeing it as habitual wolf-crying, Goebells type propaganda and evil-minded gossip and slander that distracts from real crimes in the area of paedophilia, where we have been negligent.

  24. It would be a mistake to look at any boycotts of away grounds from our support – that would simply play into the hands of those targeting the Celtic support.

There is a review of the ticket allocation in the offing and this could potentially be related.

The agenda is, some would say, to silence our support. The OBAF Act hasn’t been successful and other means are being thought through. That could mean putting pressure on Celtic and an easier life would be achieved by giving the boycott tickets to less vocal supporters.
