  1. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Would love Darryl Murphy to justify the confidence that Lenny shows in him.

An off day for Stokesy today. He`ll be back.

  2. Murphy just looks like a cart horse to me – no pace, little skill. I struggle to see what he adds to out squad. How many goals per game does he average? Give Tony Watt a chance. Just my opinion!

  3. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

    West wales…

I agree, but when did Neil last have him in the squad?

If you are not in the squad ye just canny play!

  4. REFEREE…………… REALLY!!!!!!!!!!

Was like one of these situations in an under 12’s Boy’s Club games and there is no official referee, so one of the Dads from the other side offers to help out!!!!!!

Ten minutes in and all the parents are mumbling WTF!!!!!!!

TET………. Aye, for sure, to paraphrase your good self ‘Sort the refs; some sort of level playing field’……..

Ah well; to be expected, I suppose…….

    Regards & Hail Hail

  5. Good result: Very poor performance. tactics: big game Wednesday first substiture! Wilson, why not Lustig? Then to make things worse last substitute! Murphy. The Dons were playing for a draw. We should have been preparing for Wednesday using players who might be here for a season. I love Neil Lennon but I despair about his tactical nous.

  6. once again – a huge difference when Wanyama pushes into midfield and drives the ball forward. WTF are we doing messing about with him at centre back? he is a potential world class midfielder. We are not a diidy team – buy at least one quality defender to sort out the mess at the back, and use our best resources in their best positions.

If Helsinki like Aberdeen dont have a shot on goal. I will be well happy.

  8. A scrappy one nil victory on the first day of the season will do me Bhoys, Aberdeen made it very difficult for us today and they will do better this year by the looks of things.

Murphy and Mc Court gave us something different when they came on I thought as what we were doing wasn’t working, I give credit to the manager for picking the squad and using it to achieve the desired result- three points, it wasn’t pretty but hey sometimes it not..

Great start to the season Celts..

  9. Relieved we got the points.

Vic has to play in midfield he is wasted at the back, provides such a strong physical presence in the middle. Has to be rogue and charlie at ch.

Would also like to see commons play more centrally. He is probably our most creative outlet.

Early on in the season so got to expect a bit of rust but lets get thru Helsinki tie and I think we will be in reasonable shape for the play off.

Was Lenny trying to make a point by bringing on Murphy to Ssm?

  10. Big vic with 45 mins in midfield for me was MOM

he adds so much from there

    Gotta start there on wed

Best form of defence is attack

Hail Hail lhads and lhassies on the beer now meeting a couple of thems and their missus for dinner in city CENTER

    I won’t say a word……. I’ll just smile

Probs kick off around desert lol

  11. Tactics? Big Vic at CB….eh…naw! It’s a double loss playing him there. Not a CB and missing in mid field…big time!

Too much square, square and back. We only look good with tempo and commitment. Hope for changes in Finland. The 3 points are welcome though and so is the claen sheet.

  12. Think the orcs have a diddy cup game tues evening then PEETIRHEED next sat afternoon

    Dons parked bus.

Dead jammy late goal from Commons.

    Three points.

    Job done.

  14. 3pts, SPL up and running and a CL game midweek. A fair few others would love to be having such a week.

I’m back to the TV to admire the female divers, jeez there are some fine physiques on display. Cagnotto from Italy very impressive.

  15. Tactically, a bit of a mess. We weren’t helped by Brown and Mulgrew being unavailable, but the 4-4-2 never looked like breaking them down, until Commons, who should always start in the centre, got his lucky break.

I can’t join the clamour to have Wanyama play in midfield, as 1) he’s better than Wilson and Rogne at CB and 2) we have plenty CMs anyway. He may be unfamiliar with the CB berth, but if he learned under the guidance of an experienced defender, he could be a CB great.

  16. sixtaeseven: Supporting the Finest Team in Scotland on

Just back from holiday to catch Paddy coming on on Celtic TV and Commons’ grass cutter to take the 3 points.

That will do nicely thank you and we move on to a big night on Wednesday.

Can anybody tell me why Charlie Mukgrew was suspended today?

I read somewhere that it was because of a red card picked up in a pre-season friendly.

Is that right, and was that an SFA decision (because they don’t usually make decisions)?

Stunned if that is the case.

  17. Afternoon all,

I think we missed Charlie at the back. With him and Rogne at CB, Vic67 can move to his natural position in midfield. There he can really influence the game.

Kris had a good game, Hoops had a very poor one and just did not make any space for himself. Beram was a little off the pace. Sammi was a handful as always. Murphy was a worthy sub imho.

3 points and a 100% record in competitive football so far…looking forward to Wednesday. Will be heading up to Phily on Friday for the game there…just cant wait to see the Hoops play live.

    Hail Hail

  18. St.John.Doyle on

    Just back from the game

I hope Lenny stops playing 2 wingers it leaves us to light in the middle and it means we create nothing, I think it was well into the 2nd Half before Hoops or Stokes got a pass close to the box.

It never worked last year and it is not working this year, we looked much better with Vic in the middle and Paddy helped with accurate passing.

Good 3 points we will improve thought Rogne did enough to get a start with Charlie for Wed.

  19. Darryl Murphy……I’ve said it before, When he pulls that shirt over his head

    he is one of us.

Some of the comments on here were regretful as he was preparing to come on

    to represent us.

Leave the negative thoughts for the liquidised mob.

Murphy is an honest player but not a great one.

His effort was much greater than a lot of others and I think the crowd appreciated it.

  21. Snake….agree,

I may not be Murphy’s greatest fan but he is attempting to carry out a task that most of us would die for – had we the ability.

    Teuchter ár lá

  22. Imo, Murphy contributed far more in the short time he was on than Stokes.

I was really disappointed in Aberdeen. We were poor but they were sent out to get a draw. Brown and his ilk have to learn that this is a BIG, BIG season for Scottish football. The only way we are going to attract and keep big crowds is if people know they will be entertained. Aberdeen contributed nothing today. Sad.

need to be sharper up front

  24. A good three points is all.

Aberdeen are better than last season and tried to park the bus.

But I’m glad that Jamie Langfield forgot to put the handbrake on near the end of the game……what a howler after pulling off a couple of decent saves from Kris earlier.

Wanyama in midfield for me EVERY TIME. He is a stone cold natural in that postion for my money and the team looked to have better energy when he switched there.

Wilson did ok when he came on.

And I agree with Snake that the fans appreciated Murphy’s effort.

Izzy troubles me – I fear we’re never going to see him get back to his previous form.

I do hope to be wrong on this.

And I just saw the trailer for a Game at Peterhead next week. It’s going to dawn on them soon just how far they have fallen.

To Europe and beyond with the mighty Celtic.

  25. Just home, very content to have taken all three points from a Summery pre season feel game.

Two automatic starts in Mulgrew and Brown missing, a defensive organised Dons but we’re top and that’s all that matters.

Unconvincing performances and a lack of creativity would have done for us, as at no time in the game did Celtic play the way they did in full flight of last season, and the 4-4-2 home tactic with Samaras drifting from the left and Commons likewise on his wrong foot, simply wasn’t effective.

How much of this was down to the Dons, is hard to say, but I think Celtic beat a much better technical side on Wednesday night, and we will really need to improve greatly to be in the CL draw.

Not sure that Neil Lennon has a first eleven from the squad, every game is different and it’ll be all change again on Wednesday, with the only certainty in my mind that Hooper and Stokes won’t pair up, in the starting line up.

If Brown is fit he’ll replace Kayal, and Wanyama should be moved forward allowing Mulgrew to partner Rogne with Stokes dropping out.

    Hail Hail

  26. Snake Plissken on

    Right boys and girls.

I’m off to the Saris pub to meet my pal.

    Enjoy your day.

  27. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    Hi,folks.

Just one wee post, and that is that we were appalling today.

Analysis will come from better than myself, but the paucity of our subs spoke volumes.

And the first picks were not much better.

Rogne and Izzy in particular were poor at the back, and Vic is wasted beside them.

The rest of the team looked like strangers to each other.

I rarely criticise the players as strongly as this, but I was simply stunned by how poor we were.
